It's been going on for 60 odd years, maybe some people are exploring the reasons it is lasting so long.

One side will not stop until Israel no longer exists and Israel will not stop defending their right to exist. There will never be peace under those circumstances.

 

And besides that .... all the major arms dealers are Jewish, it's a win-win situation.

Didn't actually see that Opti mate. Fair play that is bloody long, I was actually referring to mainstream TV coverage such as BBC and ITV. I'm not even pro Hamas in any way shape or form, it's disgusting how they continue to sacrifice the lives of their woman and children but was surprised how Opti was putting the blame on Palestine.

 

That's something that is being overlooked...Hamas to the best of my knowledge didn't exist until the early 90s, Israel has occupied Gaza since 1967. To 'blame' Hamas is somewhat short-sighted even though no one is saying they are without blame. I do maintain that the only innocents in this are the Palestinian people.

Strange how the international community are not putting more pressures on Iran to stop funding and supplying Hamas rockets and arms.

 

I'm afraid that the behaviour of one rogue state, who have lived much of my lifetime in a sort of enforced exile from the international community, do not justify the massacre of hundreds of civilians by a supposedly progressive, western democracy with far superior firepower at their disposal.

Hamas are undoubtedly provoking a response and don't look as if they wish to make peace. It's understandable that it's not tolerable for Israel to face rocket attack. You can't however ignore the situation that the Palestinians find themselves in - stateless, confined, embargoed and often at the whim of Israeli oppression. It's a cycle of violence and just calling one side 'terrorists' is naive.

ANC or the Stern Gang - 'Terrorists' or freedom fighters? History is just written by the winners.

 

So out of Russia and Ukraine which one is Israel and which one is Palestine?

Countries in green recognise Palestine as a country.

Most of the international community recognises Palestine as a nation state too. Hamas are the elected government of Gaza, so Iran are actually supplying the government of a nation state with rockets. Just to be correct.

Also I suggest anyone who thinks Israel are completely innocent, try mixing up BBC News / Sky News with Al Jazeera news occasionally. Both are biased, but I always believe the truth lies somewhere in between the two sides. Some of the scenes on Al Jazeera are shocking. For example on Sunday they had footage of a reporter clearly with 'PRESS' written across his chest being shot.

I'm on neither side. I think both sides are guilty, and there must be a better solution than periods of ceasefire breaking up what is essentially a never-ending war.

 

BBC Showed a man with "shoot" on his chest being pressed, so there have been travesties on both sides.

 

Hamas was what was in question, not Palestine. Hamas are not a nation state, indubitably.

I agree that both sides are guilty. The leader of Hamas has come out today saying they will not agree to a ceasefire unless Israel opens up the borders which Israel won't do because as soon as they do rockets and arms will flood back in and be used to attack them again.

Also theres been a huge rise in anti-semitism across Europe in the last few days, with jews being abused in the streets, shops smashed, chants of send them to the gas chambers heard at a protest in Germany.

 

Fatalities reported on CNN this morning:

Palestinians 700 dead (at least 70% civilians)
Israelis 35 dead (32 soldiers, 2 civilians, 1 foreign guest worker)

I wasn't making any point, I just brought it up as a separate paragraph. Theres nothing to extrapolate from it. I understand that in the context of the thread people are willing to jump on any comment to twist and create straw men out of it but in this case fan was incorrect.

Not irrelevant in the context of the thread, only non connected to what I wrote just above it.

I stated a fact, one which has to do with the recent protests, and fan misunderstood it to be justification for the killing of innocent Palestinians. Maybe I also should have stated that the deaths of innocent Palestinians is wrong just to clear it up.
