Ok, let's accept relegation and that our coach has no plan without those injured players because of injuries.

Of course we'd potentially be better if the squad was fully fit, but it wouldn't change Mazzarri's incompetence in drilling the players and getting us playing like a side with even the slightest semblance of tactical coherence.

We've been poor and disjointed all season bar a few freak performances and have rode our luck repeatedly and now we're in big trouble, and I don't see it getting any better under Mazzarri.

I can't deny the injuries are a problem but don't have a lot of faith that Walt can sort this mess out.

A tough decision for the owners now. If he is going it has to be now before the window closes, surely?

So change the system them, play a solid back four and crowd the midfield? Or just stick to the same tried and tested tactics that are not working?

I imagine it would be tonight or tomorrow, gives any new Head Coach a little bit extra to get to grips with the squad.

  8. I can't see how he can stay after tonight

It's not all his fault... Gino's penny pinching by not investing in 8 quality HG players has left the squad woefully short of cover... but Wally needs to take responsibility for the lack of fitness, the lack of movement, the appalling passing, the endless aimless hoofing, the terrible marking & defending, continually playing Gueds/Kaboul/Iggy/Deeney/Capoue when they are off form / not good enough

Funny, he was 2/1 yesterday with Phelan in place. In hindsight, the latter was a knocking bet, with owners like that.

I can't argue with the rest of the post but who else is there to replace these guys? I'm all for promoting youth players but we'd get slaughtered if half our starting lineup were chucked in from the U23s.

As opposed to being slaughtered like we are being anyway? At least you'd see fight from the players. And it might shake the ones that can't be ****ed into action.

Said it on the Shoutbox but he's let himself go. No more slick, gelled hair and sharp Italian merino wool coats. He now looks like a donkey on the edge...

Not on the site I was looking at. He was 6/1 last night and now 9/4.

Can someone please tell me what the fascination is with Guidolin? He was absolutely rancid at Swansea. Surely we're signing our own death warrant with him.

I'm not wanting him out (yet), but I'd be happy for him to get the boot to see this again:

I feel sorry for Mazzarri. The fact we're so poor is clearly having an affect on him and he is at training every day of the week so sees things we don't. Hes obviously trying to change things. I quite like the bloke but it's just not working at the moment. I hope he gets a little longer to be honest as I'd like to see if we pick up with a couple of signings in midfield and up top.

The major issue is up top I think. We look poor defensively but there will be errors when the ball never sticks up front and it's just 90 minutes of pressure on the defence. If we don't sign a striker we won't have a chance though as it seems fairly obvious Okaka and Success won't string games together. Deeney and Ighalo just aren't premiership players.

He took 28 points from 17 games last season when Swansea were doomed, and was unlucky to get sacked this season. Plus the Pozzo,s know him. He speaks English.

I feel like our main problem is the formation, and that we don't have a deep enough squad to play it properly, once we have even one or two injuries it's dashed. The 3 at the back is doing way more harm than good. 3 in the midfield is ok, but once we lose Behrami we look weak, as Gueds isn't great at defending and Capoue is away with the fairies most games.

Also Deeney and Ighalo are so very very blunt atm, and their replacements (bar Sinclair) are injured.

I feel a bit sorry for Mazzarri because the injuries are catastrophic, but he can change the formation, the style of play, and try and get the players motivated. He's doing none of the above the moment.

The thing is that 2 of the better players on the pitch tonight are 2 that up until the injuries stacked up looked doomed. I'm not saying that Kabelese and Doucoure were stand outs as great performers but Kabs did a reasonable job in a position I haven't seen him used before and Doucoure just kept on running and pressing all game. He won corners, forced throw ins and had arguably the best shot I have seen us produce in many games! I can't help imagine how he would look with a few more games under his belt for us

One of the problems all season has been our inability to defend crosses and set plays, especially corners. Even when everyone was fit we couldn't do it, week after week a corner leads to anxiety in the crowd because we have no confidence in defending it. That just comes down to poor training in the week and poor organisation in the game, and should be something that the manager/coach should be able to solve. Today again from a corner, crap defence and we are 1-0 down just before half time, we must be the absolute worst in the division at defending them.

I hate that we constantly chop and change managers, I would love us to get someone in who can stay and build a team but it is not looking good for Walter at the moment sadly.

    Or this...

    Goodbye Mazzarri,
Though we barely knew you a year ago,
You had the grace to play 352,
    You invented it you know.
    They pulled you from Manchester,
Learning lingo form the local tyke,
    They made you the manager,
    Alec Baldwin look-a-like.

And it seems to me you lived your life,
Stuck playing with 3 centre backs,
Never knowing who to cling to,
    When they all were cack.
And I would have liked to have known you,
But it was just so brief,
Your 352 burned out long before,
    Your 451 ever did.

    The Premier League was tough,
The toughest role you ever played,
    The Pozzo's created a superstar,
And Capoue was the price you paid.
    Even when you drew,
Oh, the fans still hounded you,
All the papers had to say,
Was that Mazza had no second play.

And it seems to me you lived your life
Stuck playing with 3 centre backs,
Never knowing who to cling to,
    When they all were cack.
And I would have liked to have known you,

    Goodbye Mazzarri,
From Janmatt in the 22 shirt,
Who sees you as something as more than a manager,
More than just our 352 expert.

The ball doesnt stick up front because the midfield do not get up and support the strikers quick enough. The amount of times Deeney had been winning headers with absolutely nobody near him is countless. It seriously is ridiculous. I put that down to the system we play.

It does not help that we leave nobody up at corners. We clear it, and it comes back at us again. The only way we get out from defending corners is if they head it over or if Gomes catches it. That is down to the manager.

Also, zonal marking is terrible and not the answer.
