I can see that he would be a very good squad option for someone like Everton - we should hope for a more reliable starting XI player at the price he would cost us, whereas Everton could afford to rotate him a bit more. He still has lots more potential he can fulfil I reckon.

Doesn't seem to be any middle ground with Niang. He's either excellent or anonymous - and for us it was mostly the latter. Long spells of nothing with the odd bit of brilliance thrown in. There's a player in there somewhere, so whether Koeman can get him to produce regularly is the key. Is £16m a gamble theses days? Maybe not for Everton now, but certainly for us. His self-substitution on the last day was appalling, and was basically like a child that didn't want to play any more so went home in a sulk. He could prove us wrong and be magnificent at Goodison, but I would imagine that by Jan/Feb (assuming you actually buy him) you'll have seen enough to be very underwhelmed.

What irks me a bit is that we pay money and a degree of risk to take him out of the wilderness on loan but with a right to buy and potentially get a young world class player we can be fantasise will be worth 50m plus in a couple of weeks or so. But then we can't even exercise our right to buy because the player doesn't want to sign. The player says it for personal reasons that he can't sign with us and possibly something to do with England or something. Then we hear he's gonna move to everton or ar5e. I know some people don't rate him, I personally do still think he can be great. but even if he had been awesome on his loan it seems we still couldn't have signed him but everton and arsenal could.

I guess it makes me question the benefit of the loan with option to buy type transfer.

  6. Could be well wide of the mark, but I have been suggesting for some time that the personal reasons are that Gino didn't approach the agent to discuss the right to buy.

There seems to me to be a clue in the story that we wanted to pay less than the agreed sum. Sounds like typical Gino showing willing whilst knowing the offer will end the issue in his favoured outcome. See also Slav, Walter, McKinley, Beppe, etc.

Niang may be fantastic in the long run, but generally, whilst here, his quality was more evident in reputation and potential than it was in performances. As Jossy mentioned above, the money requested is way too much of a risk for us, but for free spending Everton, they may consider it less so...

£16m? No thanks. It became apparent after a few games that even the £13m we had agreed was OTT.

Everton have clearly got £80m - £100m for Lukaku and are spending it early. Read somewhere it's a done deal to Chelsea but waiting so he can be unveiled the same time as their Nike kit.

Niang was gash. Occaisionally good, often wasteful, always not enough effort or heart and soul spent for the cause.

Says a lot about our current transfer activity that a thread about someone we know we aren't signing keeps floating to the top.

Think Ballotelli, touches of flamboyant brilliance, mixed in with bad press, and lazy attitude. Potential to be brilliant, which I predict he will never realise.

Would it be possible for Watford to take up our option of buying for 13m and instantly selling for 16m? Niang gets what he wants and we make a little profit

It's what Deportivo are doing with Watford club legend Juanfran. They're finally buying him from us and selling him straight to Galatasary. Luckily the wily fox Pozzo has inserted some sort of clause in there where we get different sell on percentages depending on what they sell him for.

The only thing that would get Niang here is more money. That is NOT the kind of player we want or need. I'd only be happy if we signed him and then loaned him to Udinese for a year.. and then sell him after a good season.

You might have hit on something here. Just like the Pozzos to take advantage of a situation where another club needs to off-load before they can recruit. I have no problem if it helps our friends in Udine. Also no problem if Niang comes back showing some humility. Reckon his agent and possibly Mazzari filled his head with rubbish. As I have said before I reckon Silva will talk straight and make it clear to the youngsters that it is as much about consistency on the pitch and hard work if they want to succeed. COYHs!

I thought Niang was pretty good actually. I loved that curler he scored where he cut in and let fly from the edge of the area. That was class that. Also made some brilliant passes. Quite obviously a classy footballer and hence the interest from elsewhere.

The one problem is: he's a bad lad. Bit of a mercenary. Loses heart when things aren't going right. Snaps back when the fans have a go at him.

Someone above mentioned he could come back with humility. If we're looking for humility from our multi-million pound imports from the top level of European football, we're going to be looking a long time. I don't think there are too many humble ones amongst them. Perhaps some are better than others at disguising that. Niang's crime might be that he's just not a very good actor.

He'd be an absolute snip at £5m. Deal of the century. A maverick in the team who can perhaps come on and change a game in our favour.

And as for his character, well if you can grow to feel affection towards spitting, abrasive, spiv-moustached, pasta quality moaner, 'Jolly Ollie' Cholebas then I'm sure we can forgive young M'Baye.

  27. Moose

Clearly a knobhead of the highest order, but not one who didn't seem to try whilst he was here, or lacked talent.

Providing he wasn't our big signing or cost too much I wouldn't be upset about a return. Could eventually grow up a bit.

  28. Nah. You'll never grow up Moose. And you wouldn't like it if you did. It's horrible.

  29. Hairyfrog

Cholebas plays with passion and gets angry at poor performances, both from his team mates and himself.
Niang by comparrison, gave the impression he though he was honouring us simply by stepping out on the pitch, he is undoubtedly a talent, but only if he works to develop it (along with his stamina) or he will just be another could have been.
If he does come back he needs to do some serious bridge building with the fans that he peed off.

Not quite sure I'd agree with deal of the century. Sure, his talent is worth much more than £5m but his baggage and attitude is worth far less. We had a squad with attitude issues last season - let's not start the revolution with this idiot. Plus you say a 'maverick who can come on and change a game'. I dare say if we signed the lad, he wouldn't be content sitting on the bench at all and would go downhill quicker than Holebas' mood.

We should leave someone else to pick up this 'bargain'.

    Cassetti's Beard First Team

Worth the risk I'd say, he has bags of potential but needs someone to be able to control him, perhaps Silva could be that guy? For 5 mill it'd be an absolute steal, and we'd easily make that back, if not more should he turn out to be poo poo.

Perhaps he'd be off to Udinese anyway?

  32. I didn't think he was that bad, my biggest concern is why he thought wally was such a great manager, that indicates the lad has some mental problems

  33. ITKJim

Yeah but the point is AC want more than 5 million and probably over 10 million. Would you pay that much for him on top of 40k+ a week after him publicly saying he didn't want to come here?
