Are you basically saying we ought win our remaining two games?

I'm not expecting Millwall to lose but I am expecting Rotherham's points deduction to be announced this week effectively amounting to the same result in that Brighton would still need a point to be sure.

We can't afford to let them have it. End of!

I read comments on another forum with fans saying 'oh even if we don't go up, it's been a great season' and that sort of thing.

No it won't be. If we don't go up from here, we will have blown it spectacularly, even worse than Zola's season.

It is ours for the taking. We've hit form at just the right time, and we all know (though people might not say it for fear of tempting fate) that we have two ideal, winnable fixtures to come. If those two fixtures had come 2 months ago, most of us would have been confident of winning them. It's just the enormity of it all now, the stress, the nerves, that's the only difference.

This is our time, and I'm sure we will take it. We are a very professional team led by a very professional coaching staff. Bring it on, and may the rest be afraid. You're all fighting for just other automatic.

In case any of the younger members are unaware, winning this league will be the highest honour Watford has ever won.

    This took me a while!

Last time we went without a 0-0 all season was in 1947-48, when we finished 15th during our seemingly never ending spell in Third Division South (exciting, I know!). Don't think there's anyone here old enough to remember that, but you never know...

Since then we've had two seasons without a 0-0 in the league, in 1984-1985 and 1993-94, but we had a 0-0 in each season in the cups, respectively in the FA Cup 5th round as the first of three games against L*t*n (away), and at home to Millwall in the second round of the League Cup.

Interestingly, we had 4 0-0s in 1988-89, all of which must have proved costly to our promotion chances, with a 0-0 near the end of season at home to already relegated Shrewsbury along with a 1-0 home defeat to Sunderland costing us automatic, all those replays against Newcastle from two 0-0 draws in the 3rd round of the FA Cup that caused a fixture pile-up in the latter end of the season, and a 0-0 away to Blackburn which meant we lost in the play-off semis to away goals.

Wasn't Rotherham's 3 points against Brighton? Would the points go to them?

There is, but he's a bit fragile about that. His incontinence won't kill him but his aneurysm just might.

Sunday night and I'm nervous. Going to be a long week. We should win this, in fact we will win this. If I'm so confident why do I feel a bit sick when I think about it?

    Brilliant research..thanks for that!

We've actually gone 59 matches in the league now (62 adding cup matches) without one.

Just imagine about how Muff, Boro and Naarch fans must be feeling.

Makes it far easier for me. :)

BTW, at the risk of sounding pedantic, we had only one 0-0 in GT's Premiership season - the home game against Derby, when they missed a penalty against us.

That's right let them worry about us and by the way this will be the longest period that we have been top this season, peaking just at the right time! (With a little help from Sheff Wed let give them a round of applause on the last day)

There's a few still think we'll go up and then proceed to languish all season in 20th place ... they obviously don't get this Pozzo thingy.

Pretty sure it has been known for opposition teams to be given points in this situation. I suspect you are right though re rules & precedents in the FL

I don't have a scooby either way but do you have anything to back this up?

  26. People will start taking us seriously from now on, if we get promoted I seriously reckon we could do quite well in the top flight, wouldn't have said that in 2013 or 2006...

Poyet went ape about not getting them when Brighton (who else!) lost to a Hartlepool that had three points deducted for the same offence.

There's a quiet, steely determination about this current Watford side that I don't think I've seen for many years. That's why I have an unshaken faith in their ability to get the job done over the next two matches.

The Zola season was fantastic, and those vital away wins at Hull and Leicester in the run in hinted at such a quality, but there was also the nagging feeling that a 'shoot yourself in the foot' performance was just around the corner. Indeed, we were unable to follow up either of those two great performances with wins in the next match. And that's not mentioning the away day nightmares at Peterboro and Millwall.

At this moment in time, we look equally good playing either home or away, apart from Ipswich our game management ability has improved a lot, and it's worth noting that despite the perception that our defence isn't quite good enough, only three sides in the table have now let in fewer than us.

Of course 'defining moments' in a season can really only be appreciated once the season ends and you can look back properly, but I suspect in a few weeks time we'll all be looking back on Ighalo's goal at Derby and the mad scramble as Derby attacked our penalty area deep into injury time (to have lost two in a row at that stage could have been fatal), Antonio's miss and even Sheff Wed's late penalty as key moments of our season.

    5 days to go :)

Defence isn't quite good enough not sure I agree you you as you say only three teams have conceded less, it has also had quite a few changes over the season, but now appears settled, plus the fact we are TOP.

No the 'goal that wasn't' simply WASN'T! We've all seen the video. The officials got it right. Why does this continue to be an issue?

I disagree..I believe it was a goal! But it's not an issue for me..my comments on the post you've quoted were just light-hearted, as we were discussing how many points we'd won at Brighton over recent seasons.

Imho, THE defining moment this season was when the Joka went public with his concerns after the Huddersfield defeat.

Getting the train to Brighton but have not booked yet. I 90% sure that what I'm going to do is correct but could someone confirm that I only have to get a ticket to Haywards Heath as the rest of the journey is supplemented with the match ticket?
