  1. Brighton V Watford - 25 April 2015

Hate playing Brighton, love the place, and I lived there for a few years, it always has a soft spot in my heart - would have loved to see them thrash their (and our) arch-rivals Bournemouth, in an ideal world Watford and Brighton to go up, but that certainly isn't going to happen...but always a Horn first so it's gotta be Watford of course next Saturday!!!

  2. Think we should win this one, in spite of the fact Brighton still technically have something to play for, we need to be careful as they are a resilient side, but think Wednesday will probably be a tougher prospect...

Is it going to be possible to sneak into the home end?

Are you posting the same thing in multiple threads or am I seeing things? ;)

  5. Give it a go, never tried, trying to get Watford tickets at the moment though is bloody difficult, been checking the Wednesday game every day but no joy, definitely gonna go for a season ticket next year, even if we're still in the Championship next year (which I'm not anticipatin' lol)...

  7. Does anyone else think Sheff Wednesday are going to be a real threat, having seen them last night on the FL show, I'm a bit more worried about them than I was on Friday?

  8. Can't say I particularly rate Brighton this season, always liked Lualua but no one else jumps out for me

If we don't get 3 points it will be because we don't perform rather than what Brighton does

  10. Yeah I agree, in spite of scare tactics from other forums and the fact it's away we should be able to beat Brighton, they just don't have the firepower...I think we'll be okay as long as Brighton and Sheff Wed don't play a defensive game, even though we have the best attackers in the league we don't wanna be fighting our way into their penalties area for 90 minutes, we need the win so it would be a much harder scenario...

  11. that is gonna come mr, it wasn't mean't to be 100% un-official...

tbh I'm hoping to rack up a few goals in the remote chance we lose against SW and Boro draw one of theirs. Naarch could overtake otherwise.

Thanks for clearing that up for me; I had no idea.

  14. Yeah totally agree, think if we remain focused we could get plenty under our belt which would set us up well for SW last game, I really think we looked pretty confident against Brum , much more so than Bournemouth and Norwich, much less nervous, that is going to be a real asset in the last couple of games.....

Not sure it was homophobia, maybe he was just "fabulising" the thread?

  21. tbh camping up a football forum is quite funny, god knows the FA has failed to do that in football in 150 years!!!......

    On a statistical note...

A win at Brighton would take us to 88 points, which was the number of points we got when we won the League One title under GT in 1998.

Incidentally, that season we won 24 matches, a tally we've already overtaken.

In terms of season wins, this has been our best season since winning the 4th Division title (30 wins) back in 77-78.

Avoid defeat on Saturday, and we'll have gone 9 away games unbeaten. To put that into context Zola managed 7 as did Dyche (his last 7 away matches in charge), Malky 6, Aidy 6 and Beppe er 2!

We're unbeaten in our last 4 matches at Brighton. (2 different grounds)

  23. Enormous credit to Slav and the boys, shows what a great manager and team we now have 9 aways unbeaten is pretty impressive...

I'm still trying to find the answer to another statistical matter that I posed elsewhere..namely have we ever gone an entire season without a 0-0 draw?

I've gone back as far as 1998 and haven't found one. We even had 2 in GT's Premier League season.

Maybe any older posters here can help?

Brighton has been a fairly happy hunting ground in my living memory. We have dropped more points against them at home than at theirs since black and white tv.

lols doesn't exactly prove my point and I admit my memory is circumspect, but the first time I saw Brighton was at the Goldstone (1-1) in the then First Div. Since then I'm really positive we have done better playing them away than at home.

Plus if we win next Saturday no Championship team will be able to surpass our number of wins for this season and only Boro could match it.

If we win on Saturday and Middlesbrough do not, then I reckon that will be enough to get us promoted. Not mathematically, and we'd have to ensure our GD is better than Norwich's, but we'd be going into the final game needing only a point to ensure promotion.....although it could be possible to go up even if we lost to Weds, under this scenario.

Brighton do still have something to play for right now, but I'm expecting Millwall to lose at Blackburn on Tuesday, so will mean Brighton are safe (barring a 24 goal swing in the final match).

You cannot legislate for poor decisions going against you, or just plain bad luck on the day, but everything being equal we should have enough to beat them. Having said that, they were well worth a point at the Vic earlier in the season, and they do have some good players in their side who could perform on a one off game.

I fully expect Watford to go into this with a professional head on, and this stems from the manager. He breeds a no nonsense, calm and patient attitude within the squad, which has served us well over the past couple of months.

I wouldn't like to have to go into the Wednesday match needing to win to go up as their away record is as good as Derby's, so they are no mugs. If we do our job on Saturday and Fulham do us a favour by getting a positive result against Boro.....then I think the final game will be a game where we just need to avoid defeat to gain promotion, which is something we should be able to manage comfortably.

Yes but those results go back several years, as we've had long spells without playing them.

Plus there's a natural assumption in general that you'd get at least 50% more points against opponents at home than away, so the stats show we've done ok at their place.

Add another 2 points of course for the 'goal that wasn't' last season!

As far as I'm concerned we have to win both at the moment, and as we play first on Saturday we need to win. After the 3 O'clocks Saturday we will be clear as to what is required on May 2nd. Until then I'm not going to get into the hypothetical's . It's Win ,Win.

Are you sure you are not sneaking in extra points for goal difference? If not I have really no clue what you are saying!

Sooo..I went and looked myself and it seems I am right, we have won one more game there than lost and three games over all - going back to 18 hundred and something tho!

Joka will be expecting the players to win the last two and I fully expect them to do so. Troy, Almen, Matej, Nando, Ikechi, Tommie and a load of fringe players (Bondy, Pudil, Lloyd) will remember the agony of Leeds two seasons ago. That will spur them and the rest of the squad on. Neither will be easy, but it has to be done. No point riding our luck on other teams screwing up.

We go up this matchweek IF..

we win and TWO of these scenarios happen..

Boro only draw (because they'd need to then overturn a goal difference that would be at least +8 in our favour on the final day)

    Norwich only draw

    Bournemouth lose on Monday night.

If, however, we only draw, both Bmouth and Boro could go above us if they win, meaning it's all out of our hands.

And perish the thought, if we lose, we could drop to 4th.

I honestly believe we will win..we'll do a professional job on them..it might be tense and nervy but eventually quality will show. For a few hours at least we'll be 4 points clear of the pack and the pressure will really be on them.

I believe we've just about timed our run to perfection and won't let this one go. The likes of Vydra, Deeney, Abdi etc will then have a glorious chance a week on Saturday to erase the memories of the Leeds match of two seasons ago. Redemption.

Joka started his Championship managerial career versus Sheff Wed and I believe it'll end against the same opponents too!
