Just a mention for Ikechi Anya.

Subbed off after 20-something minutes because Brightons tactics had negated our wing-backs as an attacking force as well as us not being able to keep posession of the ball for any longer than 3 or 4 passes. It wasn't a reflection on how he was playing, rather how the team was being allowed to play.

His reaction? Obvious disappointment but high-5's for Tozser and an embrace with Jokanovic before calmly taking his place with the rest of the bench.

Agreed. And I thought the Joka's body language was very instructive too. He basically said to Ketch "sorry mate, not your fault, but I need to change the formation". Because they all trust each other, with no fear or favour now, we're already in a very good place for next season.

 

He later posted that no player is bigger than the team and that the gaffer made the correct tactical decision.

 

I wonder if every player would have taken being subbed after 20 mins the same, well done Mr Anya you are a credit to the team and yourself!

 

Anyone that doubts how much Vydra wants it just needs to look at how far he chased back when Fessi took to many chances. He even shouts at Fessi who is just standing still as he runs by

 

Yup. I noticed that last night when I watched it. No idea why FF is just static when there's so much riding on it and he's fresh from the bench... not a great season for him and a key summer coming up where he needs to prove himself or Joka might say 'bye bye'.

I was a horrible person to be around last week, an absolute wreck. This week I'm not nervous in the slightest but incredibly excited for Saturday and to have a few beers in the town after the game. I hope we win the title on Saturday but number one aim was promotion.

Blimey, what a rollercoaster of emotions that was. Still 1-0 up and far from safe, three world class saves from Gomez, Angela making amends with two fine clearances after gifting possession to Brighton, Forestieri fluffing a pretty clear-cut chance, and then out of nowhere Deeney uses his blistering pace on the counter to assist Vydra who seals the win and promotion, and then the WFC fans go wild, sending streamers into the air.

Pandemonium itself that was. But with the happiest ending you could ever hope for as a WFC fan. Not sure anything will quite beat this, even staying in the PL or winning the League/FA Cup.

Guediora looked shattered as Lualua went by him but then chased down the loose ball and very nicely blocked off a Brighton player allowing Cathcart? a bit more time to find Deeny down the channel. I hope Gueds is with us next week, and next year.

 

Among all the drama & events of the game & the day were 2 very high-quality goals.
