Who do we want to go in the next window & what do we want coming?

If the formation remains unchanged we need a left and a right winger who can do everything - defend, attack, have great engines, can cut inside, go outside, cross, shoot, dribble, track back, mark ... about £50 mill should do it

 

Our manager seems set in his ways so I'm not sure of the result of bringing in yet more players. He doesn't trust Holebas, Ibarbo, Berghuis or Guediora. I think we should give them more opportunity before bringing others in.

 

When Guediora was signed I said that it was not a Flores decision and something to placate the fans with Vydra going and that we would be lucky to see him play. i got a whole lot of abuse at the time. Unfortunately we are a step up from last year andboth Watson and Gueds are not the quakity we need

It's often trotted out on here the Pozzos only sell players if they have a better replacement lined up - is this indeed true or just another Pozzo myth? I can't see any replacement, better or otherwise for Vydra and Forestieri.

 

Our recruitment this summer went 2 different ways. The defensive and defensive midfield additions have been excellent (Holebas apart) and a great success. The offensive additions have been a disaster. We've tinned Forestieri and Vydra without giving them a chance and added players QSF either doesn't seemingly trust (Ibarbo/Diamanti/Gueds) or who aren't ready (Oulare) or a combination of both (Berghuis). Only Jurado as an offensive addition can be classed as a success so far.

 

Good post. That said, the 'chance clock' starts running from day one of pre-season training, not 8th August, so it's bit unfair on QSF to say he didn't give FF or Vydra a chance. Deeney has spoken about both and inferences to them not getting what QSF wanted and demonstrating the right attitude were very thinly veiled.

 

They have (respectively) three and two good seasons with us and all of a sudden they simultaneously both develop an attitude problem?

My thoughts exactly. The problem was that we were unable to attract the forward players we needed as back up to Troy and Igloo. We went defensive and we can see this has worked. We have next to no pace bar Anya going forward and no attacking midfielder with shooting boots that find favour with QSF. This is nothing to do with losing on Saturday and more to do with finishing off BMuff/West Brom/Saints.

The next three games followed by Man U at home will see us a third of the way through the season. Potentially we will be on 13 points after 13 games so on track for survival but the January window will see others around us with possibly greater financial clout throwing money at players in desperation to enjoy the PL money next season. We will be back in the same status as August in that we are not an obvious choice for top talent for the reasons Perotti gave.

QSF will have to show why the Pozzos brought him in to steer us to survival and potentially get these current out of favour players bringing some pace/ crossing / shots if we are to progress from the current 4-4-0-2 formation

 

It would appear that QSF does not have the players to play the system he wants, so maybe he should have thought again when some of the players could not adapt, and maybe adapt a little himself, instead of trying to fit square pegs into round holes and off loading those who would or could not fit into those round holes. Then maybe we might have been able to go to a plan B, by using the likes of Vydra.

 

It's only a slight variant on 4-4-2 for goodness sake. The way some of you are going on you'd think it was something really exotic and never-before-seen in England.

No idea what that thread is supposed to demonstrate anyway. It offers no insight at all into how he trained this summer, nor about why he never managed to consistently nail down a place in a largely successful team here in the last 3 seasons. It goes a long way to prove how starved Sheffield Wednesday fans have been of flair and enjoyment at matches in recent years though. They've had a tough time bumming around League One and the lower reaches of the Championship.

In fairness, playing a long ball version of 4-4-2 hasn't been seen that much in the top division in England since the 1990s so perhaps people have just forgotten about it?

That is just such obvious *******s. What is it about the way we play that's so special and that the MV of last season wouldn't have been able to contribute to?

 

I think it's pretty obvious. We play with one striker and Vydra was never going to be capable of playing that role - at this level or Championship level. He's better as part of a pair. I have no idea why he didn't get it but QSF has been pretty clear that he just wasn't committed enough to working through it and finding a place elsewhere in the attack.

 

He's really tearing it up for Reading.

You have made the same silly mistake that people on this forum do over and over again.

You should have put 'will' between 'and' and 'over'.

 

Not that fussed about getting another left back in. Anya has been excellent there and I like what I've seen from Ake so far. He seems like the antithesis of Holebas. Unassuming, works hard, and understands exactly what the HC is asking of him. QSF seems to agree, because we know that players don't get in his team unless they have that understanding/work ethic.

I'd only consider it if either Ake or Anya get injured between now and January.
