Chesterfield or Leyton Orient at home then. Bit different for a change. I also enjoy immediately going to these smaller clubs forums and seeing the inevitable, 'rubbish draw' comments, and 'nothing to play for now'. All is right in the world.
Sunderland v Newcastle is the tie of the round. Looking forward to that more than our own tie to be fair.
Think that's a great draw, didn't want anyone from Championship or Premier League. Five away trips in January would've been a killer for those that are diehard, this should hopefully be a tenner and get to see a team we haven't played for ages, fair chance of getting to next round. Only Premier League team I'd want to play is the scum at home as think we could beat them.
Wow when did we last play either of those sides? I think possibly when we were in what was then Nationwide Division Two? Interesting draw and winnable, I would expect a weakened side (which in our case, isn't much different from what we put out usually). I was dreading it would be Arsenal or City, so thankfully that never happened.
We played Chesterfield I remember in 97/98 when we won Nationwide Division 2 (now League One), I think we did the double over them at the time. I reckon probably the last time we played them, unless I'm missing a cup game, so about 25 years. As for Orient, no idea. I'm sure we have played them in a friendly at least.
Currently Chesterfield are winning, would be interesting playing a non-league side at home, albeit one that is running away with the National League.
The last time we played Orient was GT's promation winning season (to the top tier) of 81/82 I believe
Quite pleased with this draw would be good if Chesterfield got through, would be interesting playing a non league side even if they will be a league two side next season.
Well done Chesterfield. It’s the third successive season they’ve reached the third round. Of course the last time we played a non-league side in the third round…..
Watford vs Chesterfield has a proper, 60s / 70s / 80s, pre-podcast, pre-Youtuber, midweek, gritty sound to it. When I lived in cardboard box at end of road etc etc etc
At least it's a relatively easy tie, so we can just play the kids alongside fringe players like Pollock and Healey. As always, there's no need to take our focus away from the league for the silly Cup competitions.
Personally as I think we are neither likely to go up nor go down, a cup run this season would be rather desirable and enjoyable. We are currently on a good run, we’ve become harder to beat (admittedly before a tougher run of fixtures between now and early January) and we’ve even cracked the away problem too. A very winnable third round match as well (although they did beat League One leaders Pompey in the first round, so they’re no mugs) It could all be set up for a little cup run this season! Remember we’ve not won an FA cup match since the Wolves semi-final! Four successive seasons of going out at the first time of asking. That’s why personally I’d like a run!
I'd be up for that, on the condition we don't have to get totally humiliated again in the final. Because we all know who will be there....
Strange to think of Chesterfield as a non-league side. I remember the first ever Watford match I saw was against Chesterfield in the league in 1979.
Oh yes. I was thinking home games only. I remember the 4-3 Harlow game, but that was in the 4th round.
Most of the posters on here wanted us knocked out of both cups asap even when we were in the premier League with the best squad we'd had in the history of our great club, and therefore had the best chance of winning the first trophy in the history of our great club They're whoppers you see.
