25 matches in, 2nd in the league, 49 points and a point behind the leaders Sheff Utd. Won 13, drawn 10 and lost only 2.

Started off struggling to score and drew a number of matches but after a couple of tactical switches things started to go nicely. Looking forward to the patch sorting out the incredible number of disallowed goals scored from corners, would have beaten Sheff Utd away 5-3 had i not had two goals disallowed so was forced to settle with a 3-3 draw.

    Transfers In:
    David Thompson - Free
    Hatem Trabelsi - Free
    Nacer Barazite - 100k/Arsenal
    Mikael Lustig - 160k/Gif Sundsvall
Balazs Dzsudzsak - 180k - Debrecen (A Hero on my FM 07 Watford file)
    Richard - 950k - Levski
    Seb Hines - 1.7 Mil - Boro
    Emil Johansson - 500k - Hammarby
Luis Jimenez - 2.2 Mil - Ternana (End of Season)
Partik Lomski - 50k - Turun Palloseura (January Transfer Window)

    Transfers Out:
    Gavin Mahon - 250k - Swansea
    Lloyd Doyley - 250k - Leeds
    Anthony McNamee - 20k - Doncaster
    Steven Kabba - 200k - Crystal Palace
    Matt Jackson - Released
    Junior Osbourne - Released
Will Hoskins - Loan - Scunthorpe
Darius Henderson - 500k - Motherwell (January Transfer Window)
Douglas Rinaldi - 200k - Lecce (January Transfer Window)

As if by some form of magical coincidence i've got a reading week this week, so plenty of time to get into my new game.

Just got promotion via the play offs with the same squad with the addition of Golbourne for 2.5 million. Have rotated all 5 main strikers with all scoring at least 10 goals or more. Have let go of squad players like Mahon but plan a revamp for the new season with a fair few new signings. Only problem is that I do not have an assisatant manager at the moment.

I have an annoying problem with 2 of the centre midfielders i got. They joined me at the end of pre season and to get them match fit after 20 is too hard.

i wait till they get up to 95% then play then for 45 mins and then there fitness goes now to 82% and if i play them in the reserves the same thing happens and if i do nothing it takes ages.

    anyone had the same problem?

25 games played 13 wins 6 draws and 6 losses currently in 4th place 7 points behind burnley in first had some problems getting the tactics right with all the closing down issues but have fixed that with only 2 losses in the last 12 games which came away to norwich and blackpool both lost 2-1

went out of the league cup in the 4th round to newcastle after beating barnet norwich and doncaster

    top goalscorer
ellington with 18 goals in 25 games 13 in 22 in the league
closely follwed by smith with 12 in 29 and king with 10 in 22
but king also has the most assists with 12

strangely mcnamee has been my first choice left mid after some stunning displays he was given his chance when mcanuff was sent off and hasnt missed a game since

update to come after the jan transfer window has closed

First season in Prem, won first game 4-2 away to Liverpool, Ellligton scoring all 4!

Have brought in Sammy Kuffor on a bosman, Billy Jones for 2 million, Anderson Silva for 1.5 million, Patrick Lomski on bosman and Stuart Taylor on bosman. Not going to spend much money, Currently 15 after 7 games but conceed average of 3 goals a game!

Bangura is immense, won young player of month and with current rating of 7.6. Marlon struggled with injury last season and is injured yet again.

I've realised I'm a coward in the transfer market. Despite having a nice bank balance at Watford (one of the best I've ever seen us have on FM or Champ Man to be honest), I never spend over £1.5 Million and if I get a good offer I almost always sell. This even happens when I manage bigger clubs.

For example I just sold DeMerit for £2.5 million to Monaco (despite him being our best player) and I replaced him with a loan signing and a £400,000 defender from Bristol City on the recommendation of my scout. I think I'm nuts.

Won the league with 89 points finishing 5 points ahead of Sheff Utd. Marlon threw his dummy out with about 10 games remaining and handed in a transfer request stating he felt he could play for a bigger club. I duly accepted this request and slapped a 7.5 million price tag on his head, dropped him from the side and took away his vice-captaincy.

Out of nothing i was offered the chance to replace Fergie and Man Utd but my loyalty to Watford stopped me taking the job, felt like i'd be selling myself short if i left before i'd make Watford into a force to be reckoned with.

I'll be starting pre-season in a bit, desperate for a new keeper and we're going to need a striker to replace King. Would also like a pacy, tricky winger to add a bit of flair into the side. Shouldn't be a problem with my 18 million tranfer kitty, hopefully add to this by selling King and a few of the squad players.

Have to say i'm really enjoying FM08 so far, SI have done well again in my opinion.

its now feb the first and time for an update me thinks

more outs than ins in this transfer window as i shipped out some of the players i wasnt using for decent fees i planned an entire squd overhall but was priced out of moves for 3 or 4 players so will wait till the close season for a full squad revamp

    ins:
rhys murphy from arsenal 1.5 mill: 17 year old striker with alot of promise

philip ifil from spurs for 1.6 mill: 21 year old right back if i manage to get bardsley permanantly at the end of the year then i will be well stocked at right back for next season

victor moses from palace for 110k: 17 year old striker again one for the future

jake thompson from southampton 180k : 18 year old centre mid showing promise one for the future

    outs:

tamas priskin to stade rennais fc for 2 million
    marriappa to stoke for 800k
williamson to cardiff for 1 million
loach to bristol city for 12k
and gavin mahon to sheff utd for 400k

won all 4 of my league games scoring 14 goals in the process

also knocked hereford out of the cup 4-1 but then got beat 1-0 by west ham

i have won manager of the month and now hoping the curse doesnt strike as im only a point off top spot now

    on the goal front
ellington has upped his tally to 21
    king up to 16
while smith has only added one more to make it 13

special mention again to mcnamee consistently playing really well and managed to score a corner which is a first for anyone ive ever managed on the game

see you at the end of the season where ill hopefully be going up as champions :)

Yes, that is one of the main reasons they are bringing out the patch. Though I can't say I noticed anything wrong in the demo.

  26. watford_pyro

    watford_pyro Squad Player

it was there in the demo but is much more noticeable in the full version as its almost impossible to keep a clean sheet sue to the space given to the opposition

I don't tend to bother with closing down due to the fact it drains fitness levels to a level even worse than they do without closing down.

  28. watford_pyro

fair enuf but now its got to the point where in front of your 18yard box where players would automatically close down they just back off which is silly

    Ok then.

Think its fair to say the first season was a bit easy. The only teams that managed to knock me were Wolves and Charlton, but I remained unbeaten at home all year.

Then came summer and I got rid of the crap and dead wood, and added some decent players, and evidently more dead wood. Mainly went for experience as my squad is really rather young for the big league.

And here I am after 13 games, sitting pretty with a couple of games in hand in mid table. Very happy with the performance so far, although the crowd still seems to be moaning about recent performances (which include a point against arsenal, and a couple of wins against the likes of newcastle and blackburn)

Had a very enjoyable half term in, all in all.

Farking typical Footy Manager strikes again, some things never change!

Sitting pretty in the top 4 all season, looking certain of the playoffs at least. Then in true football manager style the wheels fall off in the last 10 games or so. Typically I have more attempts than the opposition but fail to score, whilst it only takes them one shot every time. This has always happened to me throughout playing this game, I try everything to stop it happening but 8 seasons out of 10 it always does.

King was a goal machine but then the goals dried up completely. sob sob

aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! We may as well be on the Football Manager forums with comments like that. That's their answer to everything over there.

Q: Why is the world round?
    A: Because of your tactics

Q: Why is the sky blue?
    A: Because of your tactics

    Q: Why why why!?
    A: Because of........blah blah blah!

It always happens, I make sure my players aren't knackered come March/April but it makes no odds, I make sure they don't close down and play at a slow tempo, no no no change.

    Bah humbug!

Although to be fair the amount of times "it's your tactics" is actually an appropriate answer is shocking, large amount of idiots over there.

Did you stick with the same tactic most of the season ?

Yeah stuck with 442 all season until the sticky patch set in, then tried 352 to freshen things up, but it went more pear shaped than ever after that.
