Sounds like it's kicking off again a bit. As the sun goes down I reckon it'll get worse. Reports of stuff happening in Birmingham now, and maybe even Leeds.

The media love a good sh*t storm though.

My sister lives in Islington...will that be next to be attacked (if it hasn't already)?

She sent an un-related text earlier so probably ok..and the main violence seems to be in the south/east of "town"

Its a minor point to a very serious issue but I cannot see many of the football games going ahead this week (including England)

Fires all over Croydon now. Also reports of trouble in Ilford.

This has just become a farce now it is just an excuse for violence. Absolutely disgusting, hope that all the rioters get their commupettence...

Of course they won't. None will get caught, maybe a handful. PM will say how awful it is but fail to actually action anything major. Expecting usual soundbites from Cameron

I find it disgusting that he hasn;t even bothered to come home from his holiday to sort it out. They are leaving Jackie Smith in charge and she couldn't even stop a pair of sedated toddler's from rioting...

At least they've stopped talking about the phone hacking scandal.

Jackie Smith has nothing to do with the present government. Do you mean Teresa May?

Where does all this end? There aren't enough police to prevent this. Fires are burning out of control. What will it take to stop it? A death? As long as people have a free run in the streets to do what **** they want then they'll keep going.

if a "rioter" or "youth" died, all that would happen is these ******s would blame the police and it would just get worse.

Nothing is happening there. Quite a few rumours going around but nothing is happening. I think police have the town centre under control.

Frankly I would be amazed if no one dies tonight.

It's not as though they're burning down anything of major significance, like a Gov building or a national power grid. It's their own neighbourhood.

Do the Met Police have the numbers to put a riot of this size down?

After seeing the footage of the fires in Croydon I agree.

Yeah the station and shops got closed about 3 hours ago but no confirmation of any trouble at all.

EDIT: Train station back open again.

Nope, nor do they really have the desire to at the moment. They always get negative press for over-reacting to demonstrations that turn to mini-riots so the upper echelons made measures to restrict activity against Demos. As a result, they've stood back through a lot of this.

Aren't the Police getting major cuts too? As with everything else

Rumours now that riots in Harrow will start either at 10pm or Midnight, but then again, they're rumours.

Yeah rumours like that have been going around since this afternoon.

If police are swarmed around the town centre then I can't see much happening.

according to a mate, she has had her BBM shut down and most communications (3G) in london may be shut down for the rest of the night.

It's time to stop mucking about and get the army involved. Obviously there aren't enough police to cover all this.
