I know, I think the word 'reason' is the problem. It was a horrific and tragic mistake that the police attempted to cover up.

That is not what happened. He did not at any stage run from the Police nor did they try to stop him boarding the tube, he entered the barriers and took the escalator slowly and ran across the platform to catch the tube.

I care that an innocent man was shot 7 times in the head and killed in my country due to incompetence.

Rachel Cerfontyne is being disingenuous in her statement - She said: "Speculation that Mark Duggan was 'assassinated' in an execution style involving a number of shots to the head are categorically untrue."

As it is widely reported that two shots were fired, one hit the radio and one killed the suspect, she might have done better to rule out an execution style assassination involving a single shot to the head.

Was your cousin an eye-witness to the shooting? If not their opinion is worth as little as everyone else's regardles of where they live.

The IPCC publish all their press statements and report findings on there and it's often an interesting read. Much more balanced than the media's abridged versions.

Which is exactly the point about the police making stuff up for the media.

He did not run from the police, he was not wearing a puffa jacket, he was not muslim, he didn't vault the barrier, he didn't know the police were chasing him, he didn't ignore their shouts of "armed police". All claims made by the senior officer in charge to the media and all later proved to be lies.

Even years later, after enquiries etc have proved otherwise, there are still people who can only remember the inital police lies and still believe them to be true, as you have proved today :sign15:

See when people start talking about cover ups I start to switch off. The police is like any other large organisation. They're not a hive mind. Sometimes information arrives in fragments and it takes a long time to work out an exact chain of events. IMO if we didn't live in a world where the media demanded answers before people even really know the questions that need asking almost all of these attempted 'cover ups' would never occur. Hence my suggestion that the police should just refuse to answer any questions - but then that would be a proper cover up, wouldn't it?

Categorically not true. Are you attempting a cover up?

Ok, willing to concede I got that one wrong.

You need to read up on the shooting the Police told a lot of porky-pies.

No, but it stands to reason that she would know more about it than we do.

If somebody was shot at the top of your road, you would know more about it than somebody in Bedfordshire.

I consider her to be more reliable than any information released thus far, because there isn't any. It is a reasonable thing to do. I would rather believe somebody who was within a hundred yards of the incident than some journalist trying to create a headline to sell a story. If you choose to dismiss it, that is your prerogative. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

    Fine.

I am also glad that the police don't go around shooting all puffa jacket wearing Muslims who stray to a tube station.

Nonsense. If she didn't see what happened, she only knows what she's heard, same as everyone else.

Come on R, this is why the information always comes from 'Police Sources' rather than from anyone who will go on the record. There have been clear, deliberate attempts to mislead, such as with JCDM, or with Ian Tomlinson.

And I'm old enough to remember Blair Peach.

What the years have taught me is, never believe the first version of events put out by the police. It always ends up being exposed as a pack of lies, whatever the reason. However, some people take that version and run with it and have lost interest two years later when the IPCC report comes out totally contradicting everything the police said in the first instance, and they only remember the first, incorrect version of events, as we've have seen on this thread.

Except she has heard things from real people in the immediate area, rather than just gorking about on the internet and regurgitating lazy, padded journalism with no substance. I've not once said that it is fact, simply that there is a high probability she knows what she is talking about. And, considering the anaemic level of official news we are getting on the incident it is the best thing to go on for now.

On the one hand you say that you can't believe anything the police say at the time of an incident, and then you refuse to acknowledge the possibility of information from other sources being valid.

I think I'll go away again.

Did those real people actually see what happened or did they hear it from someone who had been gorking about on the internet? You don't get to know what happened simply by being in the vicinity.

I work in a part of Enfield, Brimsdown, which is about 2 miles from Silver Street and the town center, most of the people at work live in the areas from Waltham Cross and Abbey down through Ponders End, Enfield town, Chase Farm and down to Tottenham and Edmonton.

There were disturbances in all sorts of areas last night. A lot of kids aged 16 to 20 who were running down side streets setting fire to wheely bins lobbing stones and bricks at parked and passing cars.

Most people at work saw some sort of trouble, either early evening or going on till later in the evening. It was no where near the scale of Tottenham on Saturday night, the police managed to stop small groups from congrigating in to one large group and kept the crowds moving.

As Moose said this is similar to the riots of the 80's when groups of youngsters used one incident as an excuse to show their displeaseure at high youth unemployent and rebell against the govenment.

I reckon there will be some spasmodic out breaks across lots of town centers this evening, not on a large scale, but these things always tend to attract groups of wannabe gangsters.

The BBC are now saying "three shots were fired"

The IPCC have also released a statement saying they hope to reveal verified results of ballistics examinations within 24hrs.

Yep. Harrow is out of bounds now. Nobody allowed out the train station, no buses allowed to stop there and all the shops have shut early. Definitely expecting some trouble then.

Where are you getting your info harroworn, and what part of harrow are you from?

I'd expect harrow weald/wealdstone is a more likely place for things to flare up.
