Actually, he will NEVER leave, as one day they will spread his ashes over the Vic.

    Lloyd will never die either.

You know that they keep him in a freezer in between matches don't you?

There was a picture of that somewhere.

I imagine a gust of wind will blow them off into the East Stand to go along with all his sliced clearances.

Out of these lot I'd keep Deeney, McGinn, Assombalonga, Isaac and possibly James and let Taylor, Walker (already on his way), Gilmartin and Bryan go.

  6. Optimistichornet

    Optimistichornet Penguin Assassin

think i would agree with this. definitely need to keep deeney and mcginn, assombalonga has been doing well and wealdstone and i hear good things about isaac. give james another year probably if he continues to progress.

i think your right about letting taylor go, but only if we can keep hold of mariappa.

Why let taylor go, surely mirfins the sensible option to go?

  8. Optimistichornet

taylors out of contract at the end of the season, if we keep nos and mapps then taylor may not be needed. bennett will be back up next season anyway. i would get rid of mirfin anyway.

Why are people suddenly happy to let Taylor leave just because Nosworthy has been good for a couple of months? Taylor has been one of our best players in the last few seasons and is well worth another year. Or shall we just rely on Bennett who is still largely unproven or Mirfin who most consider crap if one of or both of Mariappa and Nosworthy get injured or start to perform poorly?

Think Taylor deserves a bit more respect personally.

Agreed. Taylor is a quality player and Watford need to keep reasonable depth in squad, before Nosworthy signed we had no 1 of the same quality to replace him with Taylor out. I think Mirfin should go out on loan so he gets a few games ready for next season, then when he returns he will be properly match fit and would hopefully slot nicely into he defence when needed

:sign15: Taylor has been a fantastic player for the club and shouldn't be sent packing. He may be used as back up or he may be a player who wants to compete for a starting place.

i respect taylor, he has been good for us in past seasons, however this season i have felt that he has been a little bit of the pace and has relied on mariappa to clean up for him on more occasions.

i expect he is probably one of our higher paid players and is getting older. its nice to be sentimental but at the end of the day football is a business.

  13. NathWFC

    NathWFC First Team

It's not about sentiment. Martin Taylor is still more than good enough to be at least third choice centre back for a lower mid table Championship side like Watford. If Nosworthy or Mariappa got injured or went off the boil I'd have far, far more confidence in Taylor stepping in than the likes of Bennett, who is still highly inexperienced and unproven.

Watford fans have a real problem understanding the need for squad depth, every time we make a signing everyone seems to want us to sell/get rid of every other player that plays in the same position.

No ones saying Taylor isn't good enough though. I just think, for a club like Watford, we cannot afford to have a high earner like Taylor sitting on the bench. He might not even make the bench with Doyley around.

I think having Mariappa and Nosworthy as first choice and Bennett, Mirfin, Thompson and Hoban as back up is fine. We can always dip into the loan market as well if we need to. If Mariappa leaves then that changes the situation and I'd keep Taylor. Taylor may not want to stay anyway. I know that a few months ago (before Nosworthy joined) he was being difficult about signing a new contract. Whether things have changed, who knows.

exactly what i was trying to say, you put it far better though.

  16. NathWFC

Bennett, Mirfin, Thompson and Hoban isn't fine. Bennett is unproven, Mirfin has been poor for us, Thompson is a good prospect but Hoban has absolutely no experience whatsoever.

Taylor is a good Championship centre back with great experience (something invaluable that we generally lack a bit throughout the squad) who could well work his way back into being first choice and is more than worthy of another year here (if his wages are fair and he isn't difficult about signing a new deal as you suggested). I think to be happy to rely on the likes of Bennett, Mirfin, Thompson and Hoban is naive.

To be honest I wouldnt like Taylor to go he has been strong for us this season, and in other seasons.

Can't believe people are saying get rid of Taylor? What happens if Noz and/or Mapps lose form? We'll be relying on still unproven Bennett. Why is everyone convinced he MUST be a high earner.

Tiny has been fantastic for us and I love it when he goes on his little mazy runs.

I don't think we can afford to lose Taylor if I'm honest.

Like big Chris, it's not always what you do on the pitch that matters so much but the influence and knowledge they impart on the young lads on the training field. Especially when you back up players are as raw as ours are Martins knowledge is invaluable. For that reason alone I'd offer him a minimum of another 12 months.

With regard to Taylor I fully agree as he has been a class player, however by any stretch of imagination I cannot see what Emu can pass on to the youngsters.

A bit harsh, I don't think Mariappa is that bad !

Reading the comments people were making about Mariappa a few years ago shows how much he's improved! It's a credit to him and the club.

By the way why haven't we got Britt signed on a longer contract yet? Also, players like Murray, Hoban and Bonham have all signed pro deals so we make sure we keep them once their scholarship ends, I don't think Connor Smith has signed one yet. I'd make that a priority as well!

I don't think it's through want of trying from the club to get Taylor to sign a new contract, maybe he fancies a move and a final pay day?

I presume we'll give McGinn a new contract and ofcourse Deeney.

Taylor doesn't sound so certain but would like him to stay.

Think Troy has the option of another year so hopefully that'll just be extended quite easily. I'm guessing the club were seeing how McGinn recovered from his knee injury before making a decision on him. Sounds like he got through his first 45 mins without any problems and should be training properly now so sit him down and get a contract sorted asap! If we can afford to keep two high earning centre backs at the club in Nyron and Taylor then we should. Taylor is still a good player and my worry would be that at this stage of his career he'll want first team football. If Mariappa leaves then fine but I can see that dragging on until August and by then Taylor may have decided to leave.

I actually had quite a long chat with Taylor last season. He was very happy at Watford and saw this as the last move of his career (being at the age he is, he was settled down here with family) and he said he was not a player who was too interested in a career in football once he has finished playing, going into coaching etc. Of course, this was under the previous regime where he was very much a key player and a first choice pick before the injury.

I can not see him retiring yet but he did say that he was studying Geography at degree level and his aim was to go into teaching, doing something totally away from football and sport. Saying that, things obviously change and I am sure he is looking at a few more years yet before his playing career finished but you would assume he has made a bit of money out of the game so far!

It's going to be a very busy time for Ross Wilson this summer. We don't make the right offers then we are going to have to cash in rather than let players leave on a free at the end of the season, which wuld mean another mass turn over in the squad.

He needs to stagger some of the senior players contacts so that we don't have so many running out at one time. We already have 6 or 7 who are out of contract in 2014 so don't want to end up in the same situation next summer.

This what we'll end up doing

    Walker- 2012 (Joining S****horpe on 1st July)

    Gilmartin- 2012 - I expect to go
McGinn- 2012- I think will be offered an extention
    Bryan- 2012 - I think will go
    Taylor- 2012 - I think will get 1 year

Mirfin- 2013 _ think will go

    Loach- 2013 - Extention
    Eustace- 2013 1 year extention
    Mariappa- 2013 - Extention
Yeates- 2013 - let it run out / told can leave
    Deeney- 2013 - extention
Iwelumo- 2013 - let it run out
    Doyley- 2013 - extention
    Bennett- 2013 - extention
Buaben- 2013 - Not sure, may make a decision during the season, see if he as adapted more
    Mingoia- 2013 - Same
Whichelow- 2013 - Sort yourself out you have a mass of talent
Garner- 2013 - may make a decision during the season
    Assombalonga- 2013 - extention
    Massey- 2013 - Not sure
Bond- 2013 - may make a decision during the season

I remember when Mariappa was subbed and booed off at the end of the 2009/10 season and was a real hate figure on here.

    Shows what Watford fans know.
