Simply stunned by that. Mapps has always been an excellent player IMO. At RB I remember he's had a couple of nightmares in terms of distribution but he was exceptional last season, were they joking? Please say they were, otherwise I truly ****ing despair, I thought everyone knew going into the season he was a MASSIVE player for us? Dear me, if they weren't joking has a human ever been more wrong, even forgetting this season? Rodgers has been interested ever since he left which is an indication. Words fail me.

And it was still unfair even then.

Agreed, but it wasn't like Mariappa was the 'legend' he is today then. That was the time of his weekly fights with DeMerit as a centre back pairing..

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Moosey is pleased to confirm that 32-year-old defender Martin Taylor has signed a new 1yr contract (to summer 2013) with #watfordfc.

    Good news.

And they are still negotiating with McGinn - hopefully, whatever deal they put on the table, it will take into consideration his rehabilitation period. It has to be a contract that works well for us and him as an individual - I would hate to think his agent tries a heavy-handed approach, after the time out he has been given to recover.

    Martin Taylor

Defender Martin Taylor has extended his stay at Vicarage Road for a further year.

The 32 year-old Ashington-born centre-back was one of just two senior pro's offered new contracts this summer, the other being Stephen McGinn.

Despite missing much of the season through shoulder and toe injuries, Taylor once more proved an invaluable asset at the back and partnered Nyron Nosworthy with great effect toward the end of the season.

The former Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City defender has made 83 league starts for the Hornets, with a further four apppearances coming from the bench. His time at the Vic' has yielded nine league goals.

Taylor will now remain at Vicarage Road until June 30 2013.

I have mixed feelings on this. I think much depends on whether Mariappa actually leaves or not. My concern is that the likes of Bennett and Thompson will not get a chance and consequently leave.

True. We need 2 with 2 in reserve and I've got a feelling Mariappa is off, if not he will be in 6 months so not too long for them to wait.

I really rate Mariappa but I think it's time for him to move on. In an ideal world of course we would keep him, but we have to look at the development of the next generation to come through, the other options in his position and where else within the team we need to strengthen. Nos and Taylor can provide a decent partnership with Bennett etc providing backup and gaining game time here and there. If the money gained from maps' sale helps bring in a quality striker, winger and keeper, I'm all for it.

we need 3 first team CB's one reserve player and one development player. Taylor is also doing his coaching badges which can only give benifit to the younger players within the club

That's one hell of a lot of players out of contract at the end of this season. Talk about playing for your jobs...

I prefer the thought of them playing for their jobs, as opposed to us hoping desperately to extend their contracts before they do a Bosman on us.
