We do get good players but not for silly money. I'm glad we didn't break the wage structure to get him. We still lose money every season and while were in this leage we cannot compete with teams with mega rich owners. It's not the way the owners work. Earlier in the summer I predicted both Vydra and Chalobah would be back. Definitely not ITK!!
Not sure aboutthis for Forest. Paying at least £25k a week apparently. Crazy money. I'm not sure where Forest are going to use him. He only turned into a DM when he got here. He's had one season in that position under the watchful eye of Zola and being around certain players. The reason Chalobah was so good last season was the fact he was around other good players who all complimented each other. I'm once again not saying he was a bad player but a very good one who managed to fit in because of that. Forest play a different style of football, could be harder for Nate.
Yes it's disappointing, but that could all change if we are able to get a another player in who contributes as much this season as Chalobah did last.
Chalobah had his bad times last season too don't forget. Luckily, we managed to mould him into the player that we needed as he was so young. I'm not sure we will get that same luxury this year.
They were about the single most even-minded set of fans of any of the opposition boards I visited. Most seemed perfectly fine with our loans.
I agree. The most I heard about it was when we beat the 3-0 at theirs but many were still saying how good of a team we were.
He was fantastic for us last season and by all accounts wanted to come back but it would have been silly to pay £20k a week for one player. We could get at least two quality loans in and still have change. Best of luck to him but we now need to move on. I always wonder why we don't get many loans from Arsenal. They have some really good young players and now, with the way we play the game, we could maybe have a little agreement going on with them. How much would that annoy Holloway and the fat bloke at the Mail.
It's beginning to look like good loanees cost a lot of money now and those mega rich owners may just have the edge over us in this league. Bit disappointed but we move on.
As we have now turned the loans to perms has that presented less capital available for loans? I believe this year we were prepared to pay even less than last year to his wages, that's the main reason why he has gone to Forest.
How is that any different to any other season? Watford have always worked within their budget, breaking the bank isn't going to help us.
Agreed - especially with their training ground based next door to ours. Would be the perfect opportunity for the player to gain first team experience but still stay heavily involved at Arsenal. We should sign Walcott.
I have heard Rumours Mickey Mouse wears a Rodney Trotter wrist watch! EDIT in reference to your new avatar pic, Chris
Message to admin , can we lose the forest write up on the home page please , feeling a little pissed of with them for nicking Nate and dont wish to be reminded every time I come here!
He didn't play the holding role with us last year, Hogg did. So it would have been Chalobah replacing Mcboo or Abdi. I would have liked him back but I'm not disappointed. The player we really need is not Chalobah, it's a proper experienced DM to rotate with Iriney and allow Smith to go on loan.
So when we had midfield 3 of Chalobah, Battochio and Abdi who was the DM? That was our most successful midfield, notice there is NO Hogg
Think we might have dodged a bullet on this one. Largely untested 18 year old centre back? We already have our own decent centre backs - young and experienced. What's he got? A few youth caps for England and a few games at this level playing out of position by the looks of it. Zola would be mad to get this guy in, totally wrong type of player to be looking at. We need back up in midfield, a player who we know can play our way, and certainly not someone that we don't even own rotting in the reserves because we already have players with better experience than him who are already being kept out of the team. BULLET WELL AND TRULY DODGED IMO.
Chalobah is outstanding waltzing around the centre of the park avoiding tackles and picking out defence splitting passes. He has a real gift with vision and passing, simply outstanding. Potential to be one of the world's best play makers of his generation. However... I can't think of a single memorable performance he gave as a defensive midfielder, tracking runners, marking, tackling and breaking up play. too often a single crunching tackle from the opposition would knock him completely out the game eg Palace at home. That could be down to his age and not being physically fully developed, but that hasn't stopped Hoban so I tend to think he's just not all that outstanding at that part of the game. So if he had come back it would (imo) have been a disaster to drop Iriney and place him as the DM. What we NEED is back up to Iriney.
He may not have made the ball winning tackles but he certainly broke the game up and calmed things down. I remember him scooping up a lot of loose balls between the midfield and defense and just dictating the tempo of the game. He may not have played as a definsive midfielder in the sense that he was a ball winning, crunching tackler but he was certainly the link between the defence and midfield. Just like Abdi is that link between the midfield and strikers.
