I probably worded that wrong. If Deeney was appointed, he would need an experienced mentor to guide him. There are other options to O'Neill but I couldn't think of any at the time of my original post.

    Would anyone have Brenda back?

Fair point but no one will get time to guide anyone unless they do a Kompany at Burnley for example?

Rodgers like a possession game - not sure our lot could cope trying to keep the ball !

Pozzo out is the only way to disinfect and cleanse our club.

The Cathcart situation will tell us all we need to know. So easy to extend his contract and justify it because it’s just the championship. However the man has been an ever constant in a losing dressing room and occasional captain. Needs to be cut out of the club now his contract is up. Same goes for Cleverly. They have both suckled comfortably on the teat for too long with minimal contribution. Get them gone.

This is the player who just captained Northern Ireland, right? And who are we going to get in better?

It can't all be youth, we will need some old heads. As someone else said - he's also versatile and reasonably reliable. I wouldn't be outraged if he was kept on.

  7. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Why? The old head thing has been a disaster in recent times. Cathcart is now an expert in failure at this club. I’d rather risk things with younger players than keep on the same olds that appear as bored with the club as I am with them playing for it.

What's really needed for a proper thorough disinfection is to disband the club, bulldoze the ground flat, have loads of tankers from the chemical factory come and tip a load of super strong bleach down, then have a fleet of those street scrubber lorries going up and down for a week or so.

Impose gagging orders on Mooney, Andrew Felch and all those you tube terrwatts and that's a PROPER cleansing done.

Then we can start again playing in Cassiobury Park as Watford Rovers versus Nash Mills in the 23rd tier.

If he has another year left I’d be happy to use him. But given the horrific Kabasele has another season we need to start somewhere. These players are losers. We need a mindset shift not complacent veterans.

If Cathcart is extended I’ll quietly seeth. If the parasite Cleverly is extended I will explode!

I read Bachmann is a good keeper on this thread lol, we deserve everything we’re getting.

  12. RookeryLad

Being fair to him he is a very good shot stopper but absolutely horrendous in commanding his area and coming off his line for crosses.

Seeing as in the championship a lot of teams favour a direct approach he is constantly found out not what is needed.

    wfcSinatra Predictor Choker 14/15

I agree but most professional goalkeepers are somewhat decent at reaction saves, it’s universal. The rest of his game as well as his attitude is so bad that he’s a complete and utter hindrance to the team.

If that is correct, bearing in mind that ALL the managers we have had over the last couple of years have selected him, it begs a question as to how bad Okoye and Hamer must be?

Hamer is fine for a third choice (never to play apart from in exceptional circumstances) keeper, but Okoye is just abysmal. Bachmann is streets ahead of him. He’s got all the faults of Bachmann, doesn’t command his box, dreadful with the ball at his feet, stays on his line, but the big difference is he can’t make reaction saves either, whereas Bachmann is very good at this.

Okoye looks like a keeper, but that’s where is ends.

We've seen Okoye twice, how can you make a proper assessment on him off that? He had a brilliant season in the Dutch league last season, Bachmann was preferred at the start of this season, probably because they have similar strengths and weaknesses yet Bachmann's kicking game had yet to really regress by then, but I do reckon if Okoye had managed to get a decent amount of games under his belt we'd have seen a decent keeper. If we have a firesale, I would sell one of them, I guess it depends on which keeper we can fetch more for

He was dreadful in both his cup matches. I’ve seen him play for Nigeria and he was crap in those games too. He comes across as very nervous and has no agility. I don’t need to see him play 46 games to make an assessment.

None of our three head coaches have given him game time and that should really tell you all you need to know.

But if we manage to ditch Kabasele and just keep Cathcart for one more year instead that'll surely be not too bad though?

  20. lowerrous

Statistically he's supposedly still the 3rd best keeper in the league though.

Even though he's been below the standard of some of his previous seasons and some of our previous GKs under the Pozzos I think people need to remember that we're in the Champ - and GK is one position where there's a lot of absolute 5hyte in this league. There truly aren't many in the league better than him and he won't be simple to upgrade while we're still stuck in the division.

The only chance would probably be if we can do an Almunia/Gomes again and somehow persuade the likes of a Karius or Heaton to drop down a division.

I mean, is there a singular stat which coves everything from shot-stopping, command of area and distribution? I'd imagine he still ranks quite highly in the former but relatively low on the latter and very low on the middle one

    Top 6 supposedly:

    1 Viktor Johansson - Rotherham
    2 Matt Ingram - Hull
    3 Daniel Bachmann - Watford
    4 Lee Nicholls - Huddersfield
    5 Angus Gunn - Norwich
    6 Arijanet Muric - Burnley

    This is going off whoscored.

For extra context, the whoscored stats profile for Bachmann mentions the following, and it sounds pretty fair for this season tbh:

    + Strengths:
    Concentration - Strong
Saving close range shots - Strong
    Saving long shots -Strong
    Shot stopping (Reflexes) - Strong

    - Weaknesses:

    Long passing - Weak
    Catching crosses - Weak

See my post above - whoscored measure the GKs in the league relative to one another for each of the key GK stats, and then create some kind of aggregate score based on how they perform across those individual measurements.

Poor choice. His habit of occasionally just lying down will cause him to drop all the seed.

  30. You lost me at "Wesley Hoedt-KEEP". He's ******* woeful. Can't complete a 20 yard pass to a yellow shirt. Turning circle of an aircraft carrier. His only talent seems to be getting wound up by opposing forwards.

  32. The moment where he rolled the ball out to a bewildered Choudhury who was in the penalty box D while a Luton player was bearing down on him at top speed was perfect Bachman. Either he's a bit thick, or his concentration wanders, neither of which ideal in a GK.

Isn't that the one that about 2-3 hurried passes later ended up in Bachmann having to make a relatively sharp flying save from a shot from outside the box? It's easy to give him plaudits for saves (and thereby rack up his shot stopping stats) but a good chunk of them only come about because of his incompetence in the first place. Either through an awful ball out or because he didn't come for a ball in the air immediately before.
