I’m sure Cathcart, Gosling and Clevs can play the extremely high intensity game we’re looking for. This looks like a joined up plan - it’s yes from me

As Ismael appears to be a one man band at this moment in time, could it be one of Cathcart or Cleverley is the 'Watford Legend' named on the coaching staff side of things?

Player coach in Cathcarts case, coach and player if/when needed regarding Cleverley.

******* stupid if Cleverley is signed merely as a player.

Have any of the three even got any coaching badges?

It doesn’t sound like our coaches are allowed to do any coaching anyway, per our ex player with huge cojones.
We just need to hire an ex-player “legend” with a nice smile.

Gosling - No Way, he is finished.
Cleverley - No, Nothing left in his legs. His timebis at an end.
Cathcart - A massive No, error prone. He should have left years ago. Not good enough.

What are the club doing. Any offer at all to these players will send a dreadful signal to the supporters.

Let's not forget that whenever he played in central midfield Gosling looked like he was running through treacle even before his injury. I think I read somewhere that he covered a lot of ground compared to most, problem was he just did it very slowly. One short but passable spell as an emergency right back doesn't make up for that.

Also the very fact he got injured again in his return game in the warm up - and didn't feature again is another reason he is possibly pushing himself too hard now. He's had a good career and played for some big clubs. It's not going to do him any good if he re-signed for next season then got injured in the first game. It was also be a complete waste of a squad place we could be filling with somebody else.

    What a potential shambles.

Not content with appointing a footballing behemoth as Head Coach, we now seem determined to retain a few on the playing side too.

Such a poorly communicated statement, just a basic lack of PR. Wait till the last minute to release something you’ve been under pressure to release and then do THAT?

Would have just respected them more if they stuck to their pure stubborn silence and then just done the official update, rather than this wishy washy stuff.

Quite a few posters on have been moaning about why the club haven't provided an update yet.

The club have now issued an update stating that things aren't finalised yet/are still ongoing, and now there are posters moaning that the club gave an update which had nothing to say.

    This place sometimes, geez.

Fair comment, but it would be nice if the statements they do put out are constructed from words that mean something when read in sequence.

We'll rumour has it that Manga, VI and Giaretta refuse to speak to each on account of their overlapping roles, so no transfers in or out for the foreseeable future. Apparently Scott is trying to sort things out but none of them will speak to him either.
GP is so miffed that he refuses to speak to any of the them, so most comms are now being handled by the training ground tea lady. Trouble is she hates all 4 of them so relays most info via the groundsman. He can't hear her over the lawn mowers so that's another issue....
    All going well....

I thought the two answers below on leadership, player mentality and player recruitment were actually decent from Duxbury. The second quoted answer was one of the few times in the event when someone outright admitted to having made mistakes in the past:

    - We miss a leader on the pitch and in the club. Troy was a voice and someone the fans could relate to. The current players look like mercenary. Are we recruiting a leader?

"I agree about leaders. This is the first time every player in the building wants to be here, putting Sarr to one side. We have a core of a team who have been here for some time, but there are clear gaps, and we need that leader and captain. The coach has identified the characteristics, we give him a list that fits that, and then he chooses the players. I fully agree the leader is something we are missing. On Monday, the core coming back here want to be here and to work. "

    - Are there signs of change though? Repeated managers can't get a tune out of players you have put together. The stadium is great but we're in the business of football. I would like to see more concrete evidence of change.

"We were addressing how we missed personality in the team and individual players. We had that, but that group came to the end of their cycle. Those players were on the bench or injured. We should have anticipated that and acted. Now we have made changes, we have a new group. Some arrived last summer and last winter. Maybe sometimes we have owned players for too long. Maybe we need to look at the balance between personality and what those players bring to the pitch. Some of the players we already have here have that leadership and we will see that next season. "

Also amusing that he acknowledged Sarr didn't want to be there (which was still apparent to basically anyone with eyes watching us last season).

Of course it remains to be seen if the issue will be addressed over the summer and if we bring in more players with leadership qualities and determined personalities. I'm also curious which of the players we already have are who he thinks "have that leadership".

Have Gosling , Cleverley or Cathcart not come to the end of their cycle then ?

Seeing we have offered new contracts.

I don't recall seeing anywhere that they've all been offered new contracts?

There are some rumours Gosling might have been, albeit just rumours, and then an indication from the club that ultimately no final decision had been made yet on them all.

I suspect Gosling, Cleverley and Cathcart are the leaders we need, which he was referring to.

The club's official statement 8 days ago, which the BBC article is based on, said "discussions are continuing" , and "all parties have agreed that there should be no rush in determining what – if any – future any one of them might have with the club."

So that indicates no decision has been made yet whether or not to offer any of them a contract. The possibility hasn't been entirely ruled out, but it doesn't mean it'll happen eventually either for any of them.

Cathcart misses out for Northern Ireland tonight with a new injury he’s picked up this week.

Expect his new three-year deal to be announced on Monday morning.
