Some nice double standards in the press.

LVG achieves the bare minimum of what is expected at Man U, but does it playing deeply unattractive football. Gets the boot, and most pundits/reporters agree that it was inevitable as change was desperately needed simply to get entertaining football back at Old Trafford.

Flores achieves the bare minimum of what is expected at Watford, but does it playing deeply unattractive football. Gets the boot, and most pundits/reporters agree that Watford are everything that's wrong with football.

Go figure...

 

Did he do the bare minimum at Man Utd? Still failed to get Champions League football which must be the minimum. Unfortunately the FA Cup isn't held in such high regard by these clubs despite what they say.

 

They've got European football and a trophy. The reason given for his sacking was style-related.

 

Most outside of Watford think we over achieved

Most think Man U under achieved

To equate the Europa League with the Champion's League is barmy. Utd obtaining CL football would have been the priority, ahead of playing attractive football.

This was Behrami in a recent article in Football Italia (it's on Newsnow).

“But with Napoli I was very happy, and I really bonded with [Coach Walter] Mazzarri. I was wrong to move to Germany, that move was too hurried. I'll find Mazzarri at Watford again. He already phoned me. 'No monkey business, you're staying with us', he said. I'll tell you the truth, I don't know how things would have ended without him on the bench. I miss Italy, my family wishes that I played there. But I'm following Mazzarri.”

 

I love the idea of Walter just calling up the players and telling them exactly what they are doing next season.

If he knows idioms like monkey business his English must be superb.

 

Not bare minimum, but pretty much what most of US expected, given the pedigree of the players who came in last summer.

The pundits only looked at 15 signings from 16 countries, no chance of integrating them, and our previous record in the Prem, so anything above 20th they thought would be a miracle.

Every team needs a scrapper and he is one of the best.

Far better player than Watson, and perfectly suited to play alongside Capoue in the middle two for Mazzarri.

I have an odd feeling Capoue could end up the first casualty of the new management set up. Behrami will be key next season (subject to suspensions, etc)

 

Better keep hold of Capoue just in case, then.

 

I wonder if Behrami will be part of our '3' at the back, but not played as a defender, like Switzerland.

The Dier role first invented in Brazil, where a defensive-minded central midfielder drops back into defence when the full-backs bomb forward. I like it, provided you've got somebody good at it (we have) and full-backs athletic enough to get up and down quickly (which England have but Watford may need to acquire).

Recon only 5 or 6 of that lot will be there, a lot more to come and go.
