I presume the Pozzos would take into account the tricky run if Walter starts poorly rather than dump him!

They've learned to be patient with coaches they trust.
In 2010/11, in the first season with Guidolin back, we gained only 1 point in the first 5 matches.
Guidolin was not sacked. We finished 4th.

I hope they haven't learned to be patient with coaches. I haven't and in don't want to sit and watch **** football whilst Gino goes all soft and caring.

This new coach is very quiet at the moment. No interviews in the Wobbly, WD sport etc

I'm guessing that due to his garden leave you won't hear from him until 1st July; Friday next week.

Does n't he prefer the formation that the Italian national team have played in the Euros a 3-4-3 that morphs into a 5-2-3 in defence? The squad would need to be extremely fit and well drilled to play that way, but it is effective.

    Where is Walter Mazzari?

According to the reports, he officially became our manager on July 1st. So why has he been maintaining radio silence since Friday?

Guardiola, who's just taken over at City, has been 'presented' to the fans and has been making statements about all sorts. Why hasn't Wally had anything to say?

Is it a Holebas thing, where he doesn't know he's signed for us?

    When will he talk?

I was wondering the same thing actually. I don't think he's had a single interview with us since he became head coach.

Do you reckon his English will be:

    a) Beginners level gibberish - "I saw my face on the pitch" Sannino
    b) Conversational level toughness - "football is not for pussies" Jokanovic
    c) Intermediate level bland pleasantries - "amazing sensations, amazing team" QSF
    d) Fluent

    I'm guessing somewhere between a) and b)

From what I've heard he's not much of a 'media' type person so is probably just keeping a low profile. Probably wants to get his head down and actually start work before he goes about schmoozing the public with typical statements about dreams coming true, taking the club forward blah, blah.

He's been living in England for quite some time and has been learning English specifically to get a job here, so I'm thinking somewhere between c & d is more likely.

    We'll see though!

When you start a job you have to do a lot of different induction things. He will need a login, a security pass, a desk and have to read all the relevant policies. He should be ready to meet the fans by the end of August.

God, he's probably going to have to do some kind of interactive health and safety module. A cartoon version of Ramon Vega keeps getting himself in to all kinds of workplace scrapes (e.g. running with a bucket of hot tar) and you have to identify where he's going wrong

Do we even need to hear from him? We know what's going to be said already.

I'm very happy to be working in the Premier League, it's been a dream of mine for a long time.
The players are working very hard, I'm happy with them.
We hope to make maybe two more signings before the window closes.
It's a tough start but we'll be ready for it.
The Watford supporters are very good and make lots of atmosphere.

    etc.

To be honest, this is probably the first time he's set foot in London Colney, if indeed he is there today. That said, they all seem to be in the gym today, and under most head coaches at the club, the gym stuff was usually left to the Sports Scientists - I think.

Make of this what you will, but someone I know at the club said that his English skills are way below what everyone anticipated. Apparently it caused quite a few issues a couple of weeks ago.

It makes you wonder what he's been doing in Manchester the last year if it is true.

Well, if it's any comfort, Antonio Conti still requires a translator, so at least Chelsea will be more screwed than we are.

Surely when they interviewed him part (if not all) of the interview would have been in English, if they had any reservations then I would have thought that they would have got someone in to do a crash course in English with a 1-to-1 tutor.

  26. reids

Find it unlikely that's true, a) there wouldn't have been many people around B) wouldn't people from the club have met him extensively beforehand during the hiring process? I doubt he turned up and signed a contract without speaking to Gino etc.

He'll also want to check whether he's likely to be one of those damn foreigners who has to leave the country as soon as we put our resignation letter in.

Data protection module and work station assessment too.

It's possible, but the person from which I heard this has no reason to lie. He turned up to finalise some details on his contract, at which point they realised his English was too poor to go ahead without a translator. They then had to delay the process until they could get someone in.

Unless Gino spoke to him in English there's no reason that anyone would have catergoracilly known before it was agreed.

You would think, but it depends on who's doing the interviewing. It's also possible he is with a 1 to 1 tutor now. This was a couple of weeks ago.

Pozzo has previously said that after Beppe, he would never again bring a head coach in who couldn't speak decent English. I don't see why he'd break his word.
