Walter Mazzarri’s agent has told Italian media the former Inter Milan and Napoli coach has agreed a three-year deal to become Watford’s new boss.

We reported earlier today that the 54-year-old was close to finalising a move to Vicarage Road to succeed Quique Sanchez Flores and his agent Andrea D’Amico has told calciomeracto.com: “He has signed for three years.

“He chose the quality of the project and his faith in the Pozzo family ahead of other offers. He will certainly do very well.”

Its being reported in Italian media he has just been sacked, Gino is reported to have said "results since 11:30 pm have been disappointing" and he "wants to freshen things up"

 

Don't know much about the guy. Mixed reports online.

Going to be interesting either way, especially if he goes 3-5-2!

Bored this AM I have taken his W/D/L record at Serie A clubs and extrapolated it into a season in the Premier League.

Placing us somewhere between Reggina and Sampdoria in terms of status would have us on 51 points, comfortably mid table. 66 points this year would have had us in the CL with the right goal difference!

 

This has all the potential to be a really excellent appointment.

I suspect over time his personality and character will annoy people here, but there is no arguing with that CV.

Italian Cup winner, runner up in Serie A, managed in CL, won promotion, kept an unfashionable side up even with an 11 point deficit etc.

A higher quality Beppe Sannino and its a big coup to get him.

Why does this Walter geezer get a three year deal and QSF get effectively two one year deals? What is going on?

 

According to an Italian guest speaker on From The Rookery End podcast, his name is pronounced "valt-air matt-zari".

I have a good feeling about this guy and think he'll do well for us.

Interesting to note also that he's signed a longer contract that any other Watford manager in the Pozzo era. Gino must have a lot of faith in this guy, and if he does then so do I.

I'd assume that Mazzarri didn't request a break clause in his contract like Quique did.
