Agreed. Not so long ago Spuds were very much average and it's taken them a while to get to the dizzy heights of 2nd.

Same as West Ham and thankfully nothing like Hull and Swansea.

Well, that was my first visit ever visit to WHL and I have to say the stadium is great and very elegant - but give me the Vic any day for atmosphere and excitement. Got there a bit late (I am on crutches) :whoosh:

To the game itself as I am sure many of you are aware we started brightly and I was impressed by the work rate and effort of the team. Tottenham did exactly what I predicted them to do - sit back and soak up our early game energy then hit us on the break. At least two of the goals were stunning - and that's from a Watford fan stand point, can't really fault Gnomes for being unable to stop them. First half was all about trying to play the psych game - that doesn't work against one of the best footballing
sides in England. At half time I thought we had a chance - depending on how we started, and to be fair, the energy and fatigue was starting to show towards the end. I never expected us to win this, but I would of liked a draw at heart.

Not too upset with the result really, it was on the cards and at least we didn't get tonked 7-1 like at Liverpool. The boy's tried, huffed and puffed but Spurs were just too good all over the park to be fair. Was hoping to see Maz have another bench bust up :D

Can I just close by saying a massive T H A N K Y O U to everyone else who went today - it wasn't pretty (it never is playing Spurs) but I think as fan's we did them proud and made a lot of noise. Tottenham have quite "plastic" fans also, did not really hear them get behind the team even when they were 3-0 up - maybe my hearing is going...

Swansea next, going to be tough, but our home form has been pretty good overall this season so at least a draw would be nice. Let's hope other results go our way today.
Let's not be too hard on them today - they were beaten by the better side.

Horrible result today, but this performance was much better than the dross we have playing, including against Spurs at the Vic and many other games.

No complaints from me today, except for yet another defender turning his back on a shot for Diers goal. I think it was Holebas. He should have launched himself to close the gap instead of being a right p u s s y!

Spurs were just too good for us today and I think the only way we could have got a result against a team in real form was if we had scored first, with Spurs possibly starting to panic a bit.

Tottenham's finishing was amazing today, but I thought Watford just gave up which is not a good sign. There was no fight after a promising early spell.

We are so ponderous going forward and that's the worse I've ever seen Success play. The difference in class was massive and it was one of those games where I wanted it over at half time.

Our passing is often too short and hurried. We play under too much pressure and we're not good enough to play these close passes. We always lose possession in tight areas. Also players tend to overhit the ball when running with it, and it all becomes a bit futile.

Of course there aren't too many teams like Spurs in the league, which is fortunate for us, but we never really gave them a problem all afternoon. It was just like the home match, they could have played with 8 men in slippers to beat us.

Our season is all about Swansea and Hull though, which is a shame to say, but the rest of it is probably a bit too tough for us to handle.

Well, it was more enjoyable than last year at White Hart Lane. At least we had a semblance of attacking intent. They were so good at pressing us, they targeted Doucoure in particular as he's set the rhythm for us last two games. We didn't have the players fit to park the bus so he tried to go very attacking. Didn't work but hey ho, worth a try. Having said that, I never want to see Amrabat in central midfield ever again!

Looked decent for 20 mins then Ali got a beauty and they had it easy.

Hard to really guage the attack on that performance but suspect Deeney will be back.

Spurs were so clinical and class all over pitch.

We got what we deserved and really what I expected, Zilch

You do though expect more from the players in games like this. How many times did we run the ball into touch, or miss control that ball to a Spurs player ? Three of the goals came from us giving the ball away.

Amrabat was getting stick for not closing down quick enough for the 1st and 2nd goals, but why the hell was he in the middle anyway ? Cleverley is still missing, not sure he was aware that he was selected today or his a lonely figure sitting in the Vicarage road dressing room wondering where everyone else is. Okaka has the finesse and control of a concrete parking bollard.

In case anyone missed it (cough *walter* cough) Trippier was playing down the right for Spurs today. I'm expecting Dorothy Thornhill to present him with the freedom of our defence later this week.

100% agree until the last paragraph. I think we'll get points from Liverpool and City at home too and have a chance at Leicester as well.

Sometimes you have to admit a team is better.

Not sure playing The Bat in that position was a good idea and tough for Success to do anything against such a good side. He is young and needs a season or two to learn. Whether he is afforded that time we do not know!

Although it is akin to swallowing something sharp and jagged, today is binned and hopefully we have more resources for Swansea.

I've always thought Trippier is good and he always seems to play well against us.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone, this was always going to be a Sisyphean task.

You would have thought Walter and Holebas must have learnt something about Trippier after the 1-4 defeat at the Vic. Holebas and Amrabat were truly, truly awful today

Let's be honest. Very few can come out with any credit today. The second half performance was as bad as any we've seen this season. It was just another gutless, nothing performance, to go with a host of other similar performances this season.

Spurs let us off the hook really. Jansen missed a sitter, Son missed a sitter, Son hit the bar and so did Kane. It could have easily been 7 or 8 today.

They are obviously a superior side, but there's no excuse for giving up and not competing.

I was hoping West Brom signalled a change of attitude, but it was there for all to see again today.

That never-say-die attitude just does not exist in our team. It's a vital element that HAS to be instilled into a team like Watford, or else we will always struggle in a league like the EPL

Hahaha what a shower of sh!te..

As I predicted - If we treat it as a training session ( and we did ) we will win by 4 AGAIN, and guess what??

Imagine having to pay money to watch a team who have no intentions of playing football. 8-1 on aggregate this season without even trying.. That has to hurt?

Rumour has it that Poch made the team go for a 20 mile run straight after the final whistle just so the players could up their fitness levels as they didn't need to break a sweat today.

Any chance of giving us a game one day?

It's futile having a never say die attitude if you're already a dead smelly corpse. There was no way back from 3-0. And you say if we don't sort it 'we will always struggle' in this league but we've spent 1 gameweek out of 69 so far since promotion in the relegation zone. And that was Week 3 of this year when the league table barely exists. That's hardly indicative of us struggling...

Predictable if nothing else.. I would imagine that even the Half heads on here can see what a tool you've made of yourself..

Anyway, as you've failed miserably, how did the " tonking " go? :sign13:

B*llocks...we tipped up with a number of injuries, gave a half decent account of ourselves for 15 minutes and got undone by a couple of wonder goals and an unlucky deflection that fell nicely for them. Our fans were great, it was really sunny and I thoroughly enjoyed my day out

Now just need Last Samurai to win...

I like the way you refer to Tottenham as "us" when you ve clearly never been near White Hart Lane.

Typical armchair, plastic fan who was probably a Utd fan until last year , when Spurs went from being sh1te for 50 years to being decent .

  22. hornetboy1

I don't agree. You have to instil this want to never lose, whatever the score. It's a state of mind that will stand you in good stead. If you don't it then you will struggle, and I've seen enough games to know we don't have it often enough. Only West Brom could be seen like that, but there's been far too many limp-wristed displays this season.

  23. UEA_Hornet

If the goal was not to be relegated we've not struggled in the slightest.
If the goal was to not really ever be in danger of relegation we've not struggled.
If the goal was to match last season we've not struggled and are in fact bang on track.
If the goal was to finish top half we're still in with a shout but admittedly not favourites.
If the goal was to qualify for Europe we've massively struggled and ultimately failed.

However you want to define it, lose next week and we're back in trouble. Win and we're safe, draw and we should be ok.

I'm not half as depressed as some of you, particularly you hornetboy. In patchs today we actually played some good stuff, even in the second half. I didn't expect anything other than that result today but I was still pleased to see the effort from the likes of Niang, janmaat and Mariappa.

You say that, but how important have the wins against United and Arsenal proved to be? They should have been luxury wins, but have turned out to have been vital victories.

We shouldn't have had to rely on those.

no were not. Get no points in the rest of the season and we might be in trouble. At the moment we are comfortably clear somstop being so bloody miserable.

If you define having a 5 to 12 percent chance of going down as "trouble" then we would indeed be "back in trouble" if we lose next week. In reality we are largely safe whatever happens next week.

  31. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

Sorry hornet boy 1 but you are talking tosh here.

I hate losing,I hate losing more than I like winning but in sport you have to accept that sometimes players/teams are better than you.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with a winning mentality. It means the opposition are stronger, faster, more of a cohesive unit and more skilful than us.

Look at the Davis Cup over the last two days. Edmond and Evans are top 50 players,Murray and Inglot are a top team in doubles but won one set in ten. It just means France were better in each department, not that our team didn't have a winning mentality.

Did I enjoy watching it? No of course not.

Do I accept Spurs are a superior team? Naturally.

Does that mean we don't have a strong mentality? No. It just means they are better. That's why they are 2nd in the league.

HB - Swansea would have to win 3 and draw 1 more game than us with only 6 to go (7 for us). That would be some turnaround and, if you believe it's possible, lump everything you own on it at Paddy Power

  33. Oscar calling

    Oscar calling Squad Player

Quite. Some of our moronic supporters need to realise that NONE of our squad would get in the starting line up of the Spurs side. That being the case, our chances of beating a team that is still fighting for the Premiership title when we have a makeshift defence are remote to say the least.

  34. hornetboy1

Look at Bournemouth, they were 0-2 down at home to Chelsea, but do they throw in the towel? No......they keep going. Now it's 1-2 and they've had a couple of other chances to equalise. They did Liverpool the same.

Watford are a better side the Bournemouth player for player, but we are one of the weakest mentally in the league. I'm only being honest, even though people on here do not like this type of honesty.

If Watford played with the spirit of Tuesday night in every game, then whatever the result, you would only hear praise from me. But they do not. They go 2-0 then they very often give up. This is what needs to change or we will always be a struggling side.

Please, before you go on with this line of argument, explain how you define 'struggling' and a 'struggling side'.
