I don't think it's quite as black & white as that single quote reads. The whole interview sounds like he's still taken aback at how well last season went and isn't looking any further ahead than training with Watford but hey, if the situation changes in the near future then he'll take it from there.

The Ecuadorian left-back Pervis Estupiñán spoke with Diario Extra about his time in Spanish football, and the future of his sports career, after a great season at Osasuna.

The former Liga de Quito told how they were surprised in Spain by their speed: "It was when it came out that I was running the sprints (sprints) at 24 kilometers per hour, that left me frozen. That surprised me and I wondered how they did it. Then they explained to me how they used technology, which is crazy. I didn't know what made those marks. But it is the result of daily work."

"So many things they tell me, the Bullet, the Locomotive ... it makes me laugh. At the beginning when I heard that they called me the Locomotive, I thought I was running like crazy on the field, but later they explained it to me and said it was because of how fast" he added.

On his team's victory against Lionel Messi's FC Barcelona, he commented: "I felt motivated and remembered what I had told my wife, that I was going to be there. One day before the game I spoke with my brother about all the sacrifice made and he told me that Messi would be by my side. I told him that Messi had two hands and two feet just like me. He is the best in the world, but I had to play a great game and it turned out that way."

Regarding the interest of great teams in Europe such as Chelsea and FC Barcelona itself, he expressed: "It is an inexplicable sensation, after everything that has happened this season. My last name has remained on the fan's retina. I was on vacation in various parts of Spain, I thought everything was going to be as before, but people have stopped me to take photos with me. It's something that didn't happen before, and I'm talking about Spain. That is cute. If I wanted to go unnoticed, I had to put on a cap."

Regarding his future, he revealed: “I am back in England. The owner of my pass is Watford and I have to start working with them until I see what happens with what is heard. That is handled by my representative with the owners of the pass, but surely in a few days everything will be clear."

Regarding the words of José Mourinho (Tottenham coach) and J*rgen Klopp (Liverpool manager), he said: “That is a blessing from God, that they talk about you, that they keep me on their mind. That did surprise me. That you are in the head of those coaches is a feeling that I never imagined. That makes me proud and motivates me to work and work. This is just starting".

I don’t there is any is anything wrong with players wanting to be play at a higher level. But hopefully we can persuade Pervis, and others, that the best way of doing that is to have an outstanding season in the Championship, and then they will either being with us in the Premier or be brought by another PL club

 

I wouldn't blame him for not being crazy excited about the prospect of joining a championship club he has no allegiance to after such a season. Particularly given he is stuck cooped up in a hotel on his own.

Reality is though there is a difference between being linked to big clubs and them actually making a bid - as the likes of Hughes and Doucoure will both know too well.

 

He hasn’t spent any time here yet, why would he have developed a relationship with the club? We’re just a place he has never been yet. He’s still staring at the 4 walls of his suite. Once he settles into the team and he and his missus get a place here he will start to feel he belongs.

SPORT who are the local Barca rag are saying they’ve decided not to pursue Estupinan. Claims we want €12m and that’s it’s too big a risk and not a big enough improvement to dispense with Jordi Alba or Junior Firpo.

They are normally quite reliable...however...

The same article says that the most ‘feasible’ outcome is that Osasuna acquire 50% of the player for ‘6 kilos’?! That would allude to £600,000 in translation! I think it’s means that Barca pay £6m and Osasuna pay £6m and he plays for them - but Barca can take him for £6m at any point?

There‘a no way Osasuna get him for £600k, even if English football did allow such things.

 

If he is good enough to be playing for Barca 12 million Euro seems a little bit cheap.
