Marvelous Marvin Hagler (born Marvin Nathaniel Hagler; May 23, 1954)[1] is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 1987. He reigned as the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987,[2] making twelve defenses of that title, and currently holds the highest knockout percentage of all undisputed middleweight champions, at 78%. At six years and seven months, his reign as undisputed middleweight champion is the second longest of the last century, behind only Tony Zale, who reigned during World War II. In 1982, annoyed that network announcers often did not refer to him by his nickname, "Marvelous", Hagler legally changed his name to Marvelous Marvin Hagler.[3]

Hi everyone, im a Sporting fan and been coming here to follow the Zeegelaar subject.

Im gonna be honest with you, so you dont get your hopes up. Zeegelaar was possibly the most hated player we had last season(for me he was) and for 80% of his time in Portugal, he was absolute trash. 3M is an absolute highway robbery for us, its 3M more than i would pay for him. He is one of our worst players from the past 3/4 years.

Regarding his characteristics, he is physically strong, crosses decently and is reasonably fast. His 1v1 defending is decent, but he is absolutely clueless about positioning and team defending. He is also severely limited in terms of attacking, only being able to do overlapping runs with no variation. Do not expect finding him on the inside.
He is definitely not good enough for a team like Sporting and definitely not good enough for a team that needs to win every game and constantly faces teams defending with all 11 players.

Despite all that, i think he might being up decent(not great) for u guys. His style of plays is similar to the full backs that play in lower to mid table English teams. He can be dangerous attacking if he has space to run(which there isnt in Portugal for the big teams).

I will not miss him at all, but i do hope he does well for you. Good luck

If he has the strengths listed (I like the sound of decent crosses incidentally) then the positioning and runs thing is surely something that can be coached.

And yes the portuguese league might be ****, but the portuguese big 3 are better than most english teams.

Companheiro - I tried looking at the Sporting forum, but I can't even find mention of Zeegelaar, but then I'm a thick-tongued ingles who doesn't understand Portuguese.

Could I possibly ask you to provide a link to the appropriate discussion? I did try doing a search, but it wanted those stupid verification characters to be entered and started asking questions about violins and things. If you could point me to the thread, google translate will do the rest. I'll be interested to read what has been said about our Marv.
