One thing we've always known...Pozzo acts promptly and ruthlessly when needed.

There was no way he was going to stand back and let this mess continue.

    Fast and decisive.

Pozzo's have just saved our season, can actually look forward to watching us for the rest of the season.

I think we all agreed when the approach was first made, but Silva's conduct at the time and before BFS was appointed tipped the balance for many of us.

15m and a new coach since November now seems like a mega deal we missed out on.

He was not so much sacked as switched off life support after deciding he did not want to be our Head coach in November. Personally I think he was given more than enough time to pull himself out his sulk and to show he could be a professional and capable employee. If I owned the club, I would probably be very disappointed in him and frustrated that if he had wanted to he could have had a couple of cracking season with us before moving on. Who will take the job on - would not mind a temporary appointment. A bit like when Chelsea brought in Gus Hiddink until the end of the season.

Wow. First to admit that I would have liked to see him continue as this club urgently needs stability.

    BUT...
My opinion has to change after that statement as it is as damning as I have ever witnessed from a club when sacking a manager. Firstly, veiled criticisms of both Everton but more so the PL - I suspect we asked the league to step in and take action and this was ignored, and subsequently caused unrest that Gino expected. Silva was subsequently given the chance to re-focus and has chosen not to.

I must confess I saw bad press coming our way if we sacked him and I still think the lesser minded pundits will still do so - we will be told that we should have accepted the Everton offer - or that we are mad to sack a manager who is 10th.
But the statement says it all.

I still think there are other things at the club that need to change but given the clubs statement, there was no way we could continue with him in charge if he has effectively downed tools.

    GOOD!!!

Clearly wanted to be anywhere else but here ever since Everton came in. NINE games and you wanted out? F**k off then. You’ve got your wish.

Don’t expect the club to be loyal to you when you didn’t show it back.

Look at all the rival club supporters commenting on the twitter post. Clueless the lot of them.

Any acquisitions will be less considered, but the way in which we work, the managers have less say in player purchases than other clubs. Need to get someone in place asap for stability and to provide more certainty for incoming players. Let’s just hope we get the bounce.

No one will be talking about the handball now (old news), accept a few Saints fans next week, if Doucoure is playing.

    Onwards and upwards.

We would have gone down, and still might.
There were 2 issues, his head, and the quality of the players (severely impacted by injuries).
To fix this we need to both appoint the right man (or woman, IBB) and improve the squad over the next 2 weeks. No-one could keep us up with the back 4 we played yesterday, and Watson sitting in front of them.

Quite extraordinary statement. Pretty sure I've never seen a club be so scathing and accusing. Not sure we've heard the last of this.

Glad he has gone. Shame we didn't fleece Everton.

Based on that statement, why the **** has it taken Gino so long to sack him?

The signs were there throughout December and he should've gone before the Xmas fixtures

I'm actually quite sad about this, but it just goes to show how quickly things can unravel. I thought they'd give him until Stoke before acting but alarm bells did ring when I heard they had blocked the move to sign Slimani last night.

Everton destabilised the club, there's no doubt about that, but Silva encouraged the situation, so both parties will take the club.

The media will have a field day over this. Turned down £15m, then sack him 3 months later, basket case club. It doesn't read well, but Watford have been the victims here.

I liked Silva, but he lost his focus after Everton. Will he get another job quickly? It will be interesting what Everton do now. I think they may well sack fat Sam and go for him.

But you cannot get away from the fact we are in freefall. Something had to be done and the club have made a big call with this decision.

I hope they make a good appointment, because we're in a precarious position and we need a steady hand on the tiller.

Always happens. Same armchair supporters who never go to games and base opinions on what they see on motd and who thought palace sacking their manager after 8 games and 0 points was the wrong decision - and look at them now!!!

Club saying want to make a swift appointment is good news. Will there now be moves in the transfer market?. Lots of criticism on Twitter about the sacking but situation had to change.

After that club statement one thing we know have more clarity in is they Silva unequivocally wanted the move away. As fans all we know is he didn’t pubically distance himself, but we now know for sure he must have been in at the owners to let him leave.

Couldn't agree more, however the whole length of time the saga went on for (you can't help a club coming in & making an offer for a manager, but that could have been dismissed quickly) without any rebuttal from MS, demonstrated he was somewhat interested in Everton. We all know this anyway.

It's akin to me trying to keep my girlfriend, when she's interested in someone else that's made an approach on her! Silva is that women & I'm now single.

Whoever comes in has to be someone that can unite the squad immediately. No foreign stop gaps who used to manage Udinese or Granada. Especially not this guy from Malaga who would be walking out on them after a week - worse than Silva after 9 games!

    Someone experienced in the PL.

Can't see it happening but LVG, Hiddink or Benitez for me.

I expect that Koeman and Bilic will be early favourites though.

5 pints out of 33 since the Everton approach He did not at the time convince us he did not want the Everton job
The performances and the attitude of the players since then has shown that something was very wrong.

Maybe bring Joka back or Claudio Ranieri

Just said on Sky new man lined up who is new to England and will have funds to spend
