As well as today's article, LB has also answered some questions posed by my friend @Observer_Owl. They'll appear first in tomorrow's WO.

 

I have been critical of Baz on this forum but I am pleased that he has now made a statement confirming that steps are in hand to sign new players and that some funds will be given to Malky. I would have liked him to confirm what was happening with the Chief Executive post, is JW being replaced, who is carrying out his work in the meantime etc.

I still have a bad feeling about this but my concerns would be lessened somewhat if GT made a short statement that he was happy with the progress to date.

I think there are some interesting aspects to that statement.

He mentions the new head of football business in close quarters to JW leaving, probably wanting to highlight positive news to balance out some of the negatives. However, it made me wonder whether Winter would actually be replaced. With a head of football business, a head of business operations, a chairman (albeit a non exec one) and a more hands on owner, perhaps Bassini doesn't feel one is needed?

Further, in relation to Ross Wilson, Bassini talks about working closely with Wilson and Mackay. Wouldn't this, in the context of releasing this statement, have been a good opportunity to reiterate Mackay's future at WFC?

Finally, if i was writing the statement I would have referred to somebody's involvement in the club that all Watford fans take reassurance from, GT.

He talks briefly about transfer plans over the summer and it sounds like wilson's arrival will kick that off. Effectively he says this is very early doors and bare with him.

That's fair enough and the coming weeks and months will prove or disprove our hopes and fears.

Good to hear from him and hopefully there will plenty more communication to come.

There's not a lot more he can say really is there, other than what happens to the Chief Exec. position and possibly clarifying why Winter left?
I know many on here have said why but a sentence or two from the club re-capping might stop the mouth frothing from some (of which I was one when I first heard the news he'd resigned but abated when it was revealed to be the natural course of action).

The ground will develop slowly due to debts/loans having to be wiped out first.
Young and relatively unproven players will be bought and coached to help them improve so we can sell at a profit.
We'll get young loan players from Premiership clubs.
Our manager will attract attention because he's done a pretty good job here so far.

Other than publish his bank statements and work record for the last twenty years what can he say that won't get the Bas Bashers calling for more information?

 

He'd be an idiot if he gave you what you're asking for. We all know that business dealings should be kept quiet until deals are done rather than risking others coming in to steal players or investors.

 

The bankruptee has got making statements off to a fine art, hes made that many. Who is this Ross McFalkirk character any road ? Has he been brought in, to replace Graham and Buckley ?

 

He already did this two days ago?! If anything has happened then we would know about it. Wfc would release a comment. As it is, nothing has happened, Cardiff have said they have interviewed potential candidates and will make a decision. That was wednesday morning, we released a statement Tuesday afternoon. I'd be surprised if anything happened in between

No not really, the statement said that no official contact had been made.

This latest statement was based on events this week and the turmoil and uncertainty losing the CEO and two players can bring. It seems obvious to me that you would look to quash any uncertainty that exists surrounding the future of the manager in a more convincing manner than just stating that no approach had been made (officially).

Agreed. Although you could also argue that he isnt publicly speaking about Malky out of respect for him. He'd look pretty foolish if he quashed the rumours only for MM to turn around and say he was heading off......

 

I would go for a balloon on one of the chimneys - we're still sinking but there might be hope.

 

Bas does seem to be aware of what our supporters are saying, and I applaud him for giving us some feed back :sign15::sign15::sign15:

However, he must be aware that a lot of the concern being shown by quite a few of us is with regard to what happened with JW leaving the club so abruptly.

Therefore, as Bas seems to be aware of what a lot of us are saying, he should know that more details about JW's departure would be appreciated by many of us fans.

 

Again, I reiterate that JW was always leaving, he said so himself. However there is an interview between Bas and The Observer coming out tomorrow.

He will not give any more information and legally does not have to. It would be common and in both parties interest to sign a Confidentiality Agreement which I suspect will have been issued for this situation.

That's my interpretation too. With an owner now, who, unlike Ashcroft, is taking a hands-on role, the role of CEO is more or less redundant.

However, this doesn't make Winter's sudden (albeit announced) departure any less sinister.
