All you need to know [IMG]

Grope**** Lane ([IMG] /ˈɡrpkʌnt ˈln/) was a street name found in English towns and cities during the Middle Ages, believed to be a reference to the prostitution centred on those areas; it was normal practice for a medieval street name to reflect the street's function or the economic activity taking place within it. Grope****, the earliest known use of which is in about 1230, appears to have been derived as a compound of the words grope and ****. Streets with that name were often in the busiest parts of medieval towns and cities, and at least one appears to have been an important thoroughfare.
Although the name was once common throughout England, changes in attitude resulted in its replacement by more innocuous versions such as Grape Lane. Grope**** was last recorded as a street name in 1561.

    Bassini Statement

    http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2373912,00.html

IT has been a week of significant change at Vicarage Road, that's for certain.

The sales of Will Buckley and Danny Graham were followed yesterday by the departure of CEO Julian Winter.

Hornets' owner Laurence Bassini fully understands why there might well be feelings of uncertainty towards Watford FC at this time.

"Change, whenever it comes, is hard to deal with - and no question this has been a tough week at the club," he said.

"I'm not na*ve to the fact that Julian Winter leaving in the same week as two popular players will be of genuine concern to many Watford supporters.

"But I am not going to use clever words or make any grand statements. I've said before that my aim is to make Watford a success over the long-term.

"So inevitably there will be times and moments along the way when some fans may wonder what is happening to their club. I'm hoping there will also be a time when it's obvious that things are really coming together."

Ross Wilson joins the Hornets in the next few days as the club's Head of Football Business, and, having now finished his time at Falkirk, is already preparing for what will be an important few months ahead.

"We're delighted to have Ross on board. He's honed his skills at Falkirk, a club similar to Watford in its philosophy on developing young talent and community involvement.

"We fully intend to continue the great work that both our Academy - in association with The Harefield Academy - and the Community Trust currently deliver.

"Ross is a young, dynamic individual who will work closely with Malky and myself as we look to recruit the next wave of players to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Cowie, Buckley, Mutch, McGinn, Taylor, Whichelow, etc.

"Watford FC is a club that needs to trade players in order to sustain its business model. That has been the case for a number of recent years and it's not about to change," explained Bassini.

"But player trading means both in and out of the club. Rest assured we're working hard as a team to secure playing talent that fits best within our structure and ethos.
"As far as I can recall, as a watcher of football, it's almost unprecedented to do significant business in early June.

"While there's the down-side to losing talented players, it does mean the club has a little more time and funds than usual to identify, target and recruit new additions to our squad - rather than being forced to wait until late on in the transfer window."

Does anyone want to tell him that Jordan Mutch was only a loan? If they were to follow in his footsteps they'd be heading back to their own club by now.

With this he's saying he wont use clever words (probably cant) so he just wont tell us anything.

Then he goes on to talk about Ross Wilson which is somewhat unrelated to Julian Winter but I should think he will oversee any player signings.

I was not against Bassini and argued for people to give him time. I understand the Danny Graham transfer and was pretty pleased about the Buckley one but I am worried about Julian Winter leaving and the club not telling us why.

Winter has steered us through very hard times and was someone that I believed in on the board. He's now gone and we're left with GT and a bunch of people we dont know who havent covered themselves in glory thus far.

So i'm hoping that bassini has paid Julian winter off as he walked yesterday with no other job to walk into (fact)....and with 4 children to look after aswell.

On the flip side, at least Bassini isnt keeping quiet, and with the appointment of a scottish head of football, will hopefully see Malky drive north up the m25, and not west across the m4 when he comes back off his holiday in crete.

We still would've had to have had scouted him, to see what he was like. Especially as he wasn't from Uncle Fergie, or just over the fence at London Colney.

Julian Winter was already leaving the club before bas came here.

And Bas is right..We are a trading club, which means buy small and sell Big,nothing changes there at all,and our supporter base coming through the turnstiles does not cover the seasons outgoings,we have to trade or we make further losses and that is not good, and we can not afford to play with the club finances by getting into more debt and going down a Leeds route.

We do not have people at the club with unlimited millions to plough in every year to keep us afloat!!!

Interesting to read - i'm glad he's talking about what's happening at the club.

I'm off to Le Mans for a few days now, so will be back Monday - will be interesting to see if the forum header is any further below water, or if anything happens between now and then. Obviously, there could be nothing.

    Anyway, back Monday. :badge:

I seem to remember also Jack Petchey taking a battering when we sold Furlong and Dyer but in turn that money Built the Rookery stand which most of us sit in.At least he spent the money wisely and didn't ring fence it as an older chairman claimed!!

Although i'm not for Baz, neither am i against. I'm prepared to give the bloke a chance. He has to sell to survive, same as any business i suppose. Then hasto buy cheap to sell again at a profit. Swing & roundabouts!

Maybe, just maybe, some good will come out of this. You never know.

  32. or you could look at it as saying that it's someone coming to work for the club who already knows what his job is. Which is a good thing. I'd much rather people come to this club with their eyes wide open.

Bassini can't win, but he's got a point about selling early. Gives us plenty of time to find replacements, although I find it hard to believe we haven't had someone in mind to replace DG for ages.

edit: I'm also looking forward to people getting on Bassini's back for not spending all the Buckley & Graham money on players.

I farkin' can't believe this. For the past few days, everyone has talked about a lack of transparency and how Bas has made JW go.

FACT - JW said he would go once takeover would go.
FACT - We know the ins and outs of all these deals so far.
FACT - He has responded to JW going with a statement saying thanks for everything.
FACT - He has now come out accepting criticism but trying to tell us its been a tough week but we will be ok.
FACT - He mentions there will be some money to spend. Assurances we have time to find QUALITY replacements.

And then you get fu*kwits on here saying shi*e comments such as "doesn't he realise Mutch was a loanee". OF COURSE HE DOES but someone looked at Jordon's potential and bought him here for a VERY successful loan period.

Those who keep saying this, you are all complete ars*holes!! Why should Bas answer to you if all you'll do is stick your noses up in a stubborn manner and deny hes doing the right thing.

Well done Bas, you have come out and answered a number of questions. Now lets sit tight, move on together, give Malky some money to improve and give some support to a man who as done absolutely NOTHING wrong.

    QUIT YOUR MOANING
