Is Marco Silva all that?

Absolutely nothing in the press regarding Rangnick so somebody clearly knows something. Honestly believe Silva will sign a new contract, usually what happens after these sagas.

If I can put a spoke in the wheel, whilst I believe Silva is staying, it has to be noted that Koeman was on a reported 6m and any new manager, even if it was not that much, it will be substantial.
Now Silva will be on how much with us? 2m after add-ons I would guess i.e. top 10, cup maybe. So if he wanted to go and resigned all he has to do is pay up the contract, borrow the money from Everton and job is a good'n.
It is for that very reason that I'm hopeful he will stay or this would have happened weeks ago.

    Hated. By all of us.

Nobody ever mentions Lee, Perryman or Roeder, but Bassett lives on

We can reject his resignation and continue to pay him preventing him from entering into another contract with someone else.

  6. This 'paying up his contract'. That is what Watford would have to do were they to sack him. It has absolutely nothing to do with what the contract is worth to Watford. A lawyer may correct me, but as long as Watford continue to meet their side of the contract - ie pay his fee- they do not have to release him. This is what happens with gardening leave. He could be on the sofa watching Homes Under The Hammer for the next 8 months if Pozzo plays hardball.

This notion that the Pozzos would turn down one of the largest compensation packages ever offered for a manager (if you believe the numbers bounded around) to place him on gardening leave goes totally against their policy of maximising revenue

Either they are negotiating the compensation package to release him or Silva is negotiating improved terms

  9. Or maybe they are thinking 'Marco will do what he is told because he is an ambitious professional; we haven't got an immediate replacement lined up; losing him could easily cost more in place money (or worse relegation) than the compensation offered; we would probably have to buy out a replacement; sticking to our guns means other teams won't try to **** with us; sticking to our guns means our players are less likely to have their heads turned; we didn't budget for this money coming in, we won't miss what we never had, the season is ticking along quite nicely - not worth the risk.'

  10. If any manager were to play games like that I imagine it would destroy their reputation no one touches them with a barge pole.

That all works brilliantly as long as Silva doesn’t want to go...no owner will want a manager/coach who isn’t committed

I can see Everton ending up with comeback kid Dion Dublin up front once Silva watches enough of him on telly

  14. A manager cannot sulk like a player. It would destroy their career. Silva would have to just get on with it - no one suffers more from him being half-arsed than he does.

I remember watching Watford win 8 - 0 that season! This sounds surprising but the downside was that it was against Darlington, who were already 3 - 0 down on aggregate and about to be relegated from the entire Football League.

  16. Give it another couple of days and Everton fans will be giving it 'we never wanted him anyway' just so they can preserve the dream in their heads they are a mahussive club destined for greatness

Just looked it up. John Terry scored as well. Two for Peter Hetherstone. Trevor Senior was rested.

That was a one-off special. He’s in for a very tedious 8 months if that’s all he’s watching. Useful threat for Gino, then.

Yes, I agree you have some very good players (not Andre Gray) - that is why you are currently 8th - a big improvement from 17th.

I can’t tell if your serious

We looked superb (apart from Britos),

I don’t think West Ham looked that bad (def better than Everton and good as any of the 2nd tier teams we have played) , we just looked a lot better (and less violent)

Gomes did pull of an amazing saving , but that’s part of football and his job , no different from a striker scoring an amazing goal.

I really believe that if Gray / Deeney / Okaka hit a scoring streak there will only 3 or 4 clubs in the prem that can contain us - even without those 3 we know a goal could come from anybody on the pitch at any point in time (well maybe not Gray :))

The situation has been over analysed to death but it was always really very simple. Silva would’ve gone but as a manager he could never force a move, so he just kept quiet and wouldn’t commit either way. It was then down to us to either accept or refuse the compensation offered by Everton. We refused it.

Never ever doubted you HB1! This is not only a massive statement of intent by Watford but good for the health of the game. There are plenty of managers on the market and other clubs willing to trade. To me it is anti-competitive and unethical to unsettle a manager at another club in the same division to induce them to either leave or break their contract. At least any approach should be confidential and end the story if the club refused to do business. I hope the EPL, FA and EFL look at this in the same way as tapping up players outside of the transfer windows. The Managers Association should also be looking to safeguard the security of their members in work. Think I'll have a shandy tonight...

Wood is a far better all round player than Gray. Burnley must be laughing their heads off in being able to get that sort of money from us for Gray.
