Yeah, don't you just love being in limbo with an important game just a few days away.

that's very unfair. He's on the phone to everton 24/7, how do you expect him to find the time to make a statement?

Odds slashed on Mugabe taking the Everton job. He's not got the Zimbabwe gig any more and his no-nonsense approach could really unite their squad.

He's as good as gone. The only reason it's taking so long is because Gino is going for maximum compo.

More likely to be his wife, isn't it? Remember Winnie Mandela and her football club?

If he's willing to commit horrible crimes against Kenwright and Elstone I'd take him for the rest of the season, with his completely mental wife as his assistant.

Getting bored of this now. The way Everton are acting is nothing short of disgraceful IMO. I know this goes on all the time but this could really screw up our season. We are in a sticky run of results and really need a win to get back on track. We dont need our manager who could be the difference between a relegation fight and a top half finish having his head turned.
Its clear Everton had no plan and just sacked Koeman without really thinking what next. They are bigger club and get it right Silva will be on for a top job. Get it wrong and he ends up back in Portugal rebuilding his reputation. Yes it comes down to money but this question must be important for him.
As far as I am concerned we should tell them he isnt leaving and if he forces anything we will put him on Gardening leave.

I would back Gino if he makes a massive stand and put Silva on gardening leave. Somebody somewhere needs to take a stand against tapping up of both players and managers. Can't see the honourable guys at the FA, EPL, EFL, UEFA, Pfa or FIFA doing anything but diddly squit. If they ignore racism, sexual harassment, links to dementia, corruption and flagrant breaches of FFP rules by state owned clubs they will do nothing now regarding Moshiri and Everton. The game's reputation is at a very low ebb and the obscene amounts of money, the unnatural influence of betting companies and so on means things are only going to get worse.

But why is it disgraceful? I know most would like him to stay but Everton don’t owe anyone anything beyond their own interests - if it screws up our plans, that’s probably welcome collateral damage to them as well. One less team doing well to help them rise up the table. Is it underhand? Yes. Is it unwelcome? Yes. But every club in this league will look after themselves first and nobody else afterwards. Why should Everton care about the predicament this puts Watford in?

The idea of putting Silva on gardening leave for 2yrs is a noble one, but will never, ever happen at a club like us where the finances are tight. I don’t want it to happen but I’d rather take the compo fee and move on if he wants to go so badly. Putting him on the naughty step for 2 years will achieve nothing beyond putting off prospective new managers already weary of taking our job after recent years.

Odds on Silva slowly drifting on Betfair. If he's going then it's being kept very very quiet now.

...and we also have the clout to do that to lower league teams ourselves if we desired.

Because it's against the rules to 'tap up' other clubs' staff. And Everton are doing if flagrantly. Because they haven't got a clue as to how to conduct themselves.

Well various clubs have been fined for doing it down the years e.g. Chelsea, Roma and Liverpool. Hard to see how that would have come about if it wasn't expressly prohibited under the rules of the various leagues. That doesn't make it illegal under the law of the land though.

Whatever, it's fairly clear to me that Everton are currently behaving like a bunch of c.nts.

Yes but we aren’t asking for proof of it being against the rules of the game. Where’s the evidence that Everton have done it? It’s not nice that it happens but I’d say Everton are probably no more guilty in what they’ve done than what we likely did with Richarlison in the summer to Ajax. Or Deeney having a word in Andre Gray’s ear. Or Chalobah’s ear.

I still believe Silva will be here for the whole season (beyond that, who knows?)

Gino is very good at playing hardball. Rather than him just getting as much money out of Everton as possible, he knows it'll still be dwarfed by the money gained staying in the premier league plus a higher position in the table.

But most important - he'll also be aware that if he lets him go this early - then regardless of who we get to replace him, if they have a fast impact at the club and look the real deal then other clubs will know that they can easily take him from us if they offer enough dosh, irrespective of how long he's been here. Gino won't want the reputation of being a soft touch.

So for those reasons, he's staying at least until May, regardless of the crap that Everton continue to feed to the media (Oumar Niasse now "bigging him up" in an interview on Sky because he played for him at Hull).

Being on gardening leave didn't stop Mazzari getting a job, I recall. I don't get this gardening leave thing. Let's assume (and it is an assumption) that Gino has a backup plan (perhaps somebody he would need to tap-up first!) then either push for a shed-load of compensation (why not go for a record? The Everton owner has clearly got a giant ego and likes to get his way) or make Marco stick to his contract. How many clubs would be scrabbling for him a year down the line if he deliberately screwed up at WFC? He wouldn't do that unless he's secretly nuts.
BTW how is all the heat generated on this thread going to look if, come Sat morning he just says 'no'?

  29. Mazzarri was on gardening leave but was released by Inter - obviously little Watford was not a threat, and it got him off payroll.

Think we waited for his gardening leave to finish actually. He carried on getting paid by Inter up until May 2016 and we appointed him in June.

If we got Mazzarri on gardening leave then it's lucky he didn't plough up the training ground and start growing giant leeks.
