Is Marco Silva all that?

After all this the result on Sunday, and the performance, takes on a huge significance (for Silva more than anyone) ... As others say, what he says - or does not say - at the press conference is also going to be pretty crucial - I really hope it is not some bland comment about not wanting to talk about other teams...

I think the result on Sunday may determine whether Marco stays or goes. Tbf if we lose, it'll be our 4th consecutive loss and I can see the Pozzo's going "Yeah, give us 15 million quid and you've got him. Oh, and you can pay for Koeman's salary for us for 3 years, a riva derchi!"

Their forums are hilarious. The gist being "If we want him we'll get him, irrelevant of what Watford think"

I think Silva is happy to stay. In 2 years when his contract is up, there will be an Everton type job available even if he finishes mid or lower table. He's already got a rep for not staying in one role so a bit of loyalty could go a lot further for him now than £0.6m a year extra salary.

I didn't think so before but their club is actually quite a mess.

I do not want Koeman anywhere near our club. Given the stance from Gino seems to be that there’s more chance of hell freezing over, I don’t think the outcome of one game will change that. If it’s true that Everton have offered £10m twice, and it’s been rejected out of hand twice, I think that sends the message from our end that it isn’t happening and Everton would do well to consider dropping this now. They could offer £25m (which they won’t) and I still think Gino would say no immediately. The last remaining hope Everton have is Silva saying something that encourages them on Friday. We’ll see but I suspect he won’t now, even if he may have considered it earlier in the week privately.

If his performances are no longer good enough, we’d have no problem sacking him without batting an eyelid.

Very happy now with the direction of these stories. Pretty sure Silva will stay until the end of the season. We cannot read anything into his silence. He will have been instructed by Gino not to comment. Silva will want to protect his reputation and it is kinda nice to be wanted by WFC, as much as being flattered by the offer from a larger club. The net result is that Everton are left in a mess. Billy big bucks Moshiri has hurt their image. Allardyce felt their lack of respect and his comments are damning. I actually feel a bit sorry for their loyal fans and decent guys like Unsworth and Kenwright. Unless this story starts to fade away quickly it will hurt them more than us. Happy for Silva to stay and do his best until season end at least. He will move on to a really big job at some point but pretty proud of the club's stance, one that can only be good for football as a whole.

I might be wrong about how these things work, but if Silva was absolutely determined to leave for Everton (which I don't believe he is, as there's still no source or direct quote from any media outlet, other than "we believe" he's interested - and there's far more "journalists" in the media with allegiances to Everton than Watford, especially in the the north west where this story originated from), he cannot actually resign to force the move.

My understanding is that he can offer his resignation, and the club can reject it and continue to pay him which prevents him from downing tools and going to work for somebody else. Gino Pozzo is a stubborn, shrewd, determined, tough businessman. No way will he relent on this. Of course it would open a can of worms about wanting somebody around who'd offered to resign - but as I said above, I don't think it will ever come to that. Silva knows his reputation would be massively tarnished if he sulked about a move after 11 games just to earn more money.

The daft thing is - it's Everton! They haven't been relevant for years. Another "big club" from the past who think their success in the 80's is relevant today. TV money has long since changed the landscape - and our proximity to London is a massive draw for quality, overseas players. They are an also-ran; an irrelevance. They can easily be surpassed by any team in the premier league with ambition.

Only the "big 6" are out of reach over a full season. Financially (in terms of player invest) we can compete with them (Everton) now. Not in paying mental money for average journeyman, but because our scouting team does it's homework properly and being on the outskirts of London make this a far more attractive place. Had Spurs or Arsenal come calling, our job to keep Marco would be tougher. But Everton?? What a joke.

As has been said on here already - we await Silva's comments during the press conference. It's well known that Gino spends most of his days working at the training ground. I'm certain he's told Silva to get on with training and make no comment about this at all, being as the club have rejected it outright.

Wow, there’s some real hatred for Marco on here, all because he hasn’t addressed the fans.

Who’d have thought, at the beginning of the season he’d be our boo boy!

Gino should wait for Everton to appoint another manager, ‘triffic ‘arry or someone, and then out of spite release Silva!

In a thread full of irrational hate for Silva based on pure speculation about his silence, this post is the voice of reason. I want him to stay and I want Everton to be humiliated for the way they've gone about this fiasco.

  14. Agreed. There are some right muppets on here. Entertaining football, some great results, the acquisition, no doubt due in part to Silva, of one of the, if not the hottest prospects the club has seen - a couple of unlucky stumbles over the last few games - the sense of entitlement is nauseating from some quarters.

Maybe it's just me but I often wonder how some people make it through life with the way they think/behave.

From what we have seen of him so far, Silva seems to be a good guy and in the first few months has done well, OK from a points perspective and great in the entertainment stakes, in my view. In life as well as football other people covert good guys, they often attract attention rather than seek it. He cannot control Everton wanting to employ him.

I haven't seen anything that confirms he has done anything but get on with his job with us, nothing to say he has met them or that he would even want to. Yet half this forum is now heavily abusing him for lacking loyalty. Those that are doing this obviously feel that loyalty is a one way street then, unbelievable. Frankly if I was him and read this forum I'd start thinking about moving on if I wasn't beforehand.

Anybody thought that he may have said nothing because there is nothing to say?

There is a saying along the lines of, treat others how you would want to be treated yourself, some people should think about that after the comments they have made then next time they get offended that the manager doesn't blow them a kiss on his way down the tunnel. I think I'll save my abuse until there is something to abuse him for, in the meantime I'll be happy that we have a guy good enough that others want him.

3 defeats in a row, and 2 from winning positions? Bombed out of the cup to lower league garbage? Inability to defend a corner and completely unwilling to change his zonal marking beliefs? Total lack of understanding about how to hold onto a lead?

If he didnt have a nice haircut, a smart coat and a rakish grin that soaks panties you'd be calling him all the ****s under the sun.

He's an as-yet unproven coach with a suntan. That's it.

Forget the contract he’s on as we all know they mean nothing apart from how much the person will earn. It appears that Watford have told Everton we will not release him so if he wants to go he will quit. He clearly was unhappy with some of our transfer business but Everton have hardly covered themselves in glory on that front either so it will be down to whether he feels he has more chance of success at Everton rather than here and if he feels as though he wants to see how far he can take us. Everton are the bigger club on pretty much all fronts and if he wants to go to a club where there is a realistic chance of getting to Europe or winning a cup then he will probably go, if he however feels that this season Watford is better suited to his agenda which I imagine is managing one of the top 6, of which Everton are definitely not one, then he will stay. What Everton are offering in terms of compensation is completely irrelevant.
My gut feeling is that he will stay but his lack of comment is more to do with how we operate as a club more than his desire to leave as we very seldomly make announcements to the press.
From a personal point of view I would be very disappointed to see him leave as the football is the best I’ve seen us play in the top division since the GT years.
The abuse that Silva has received however is astonishing considering he hasn’t said he’s leaving.

Wouldnt Silva have quit already ?
