Great shout replacing Mr Integrity Silva with Mr Integrity Rodgers. Can see that being a long term fit.

We were always going to be a stepping stone but this seems ridiculously quick. However he is probably not going to go from wfc straight to a top 5 club so may see Everton as the best he can aim for right now. With 3 defeats in a row and a pending 0-1 vs WHU he may worry that his good start is fast disappearing and the window to a big move is closing rather than opening.

This is probably led by the new boy Moshri rather than Kenwright who seems to have some class and dignity. Bully boy tactics. Thought 8.5 million pounds quite tempting but defer to that smooth operator Gino. Hope we can put this behind us and quickly. Everton is an interesting project at a big but not massive club. I think Dyche would be perfect for them as their squad currently needs some organisation and direction. Silva is himself a work in progress with bags of potential. Let him win his 'spurs' at Watford first - top half finish and FA cup anyone!

You came on asking a question that had been booted about on here for at least two days and just after it had been announced that Silva wasn't going to be allowed to talk to you anyway. Hence my reaction.

You had a colleague who'd been part of that discussion, offered some very considered views and who I'd specifically welcomed. See the difference?

    And it's you're not your b.t.w.

The fact is, if marco silva was called marcus silver from bradford, had a face like ian dowie and a bad taste in coats, he'd be getting slagged off by all and sundry for having no clue how to set up a team to defend and for not being able to see out a match from a winning position. In fact, he'd never have been recruited by hull in the first place so would be nowhere near the premier league.

Let this be a lesson to all: image is everything.

Marco Silva wasn’t hired as a ‘long-term fit’ either. I suspect we knew we’d likely get one season maximum from him.

A Third bid for silva is expected to come according to HITC , balls back to silva , does he ask for a chat or does he say publicly no thank you ,

This is beginning to sound like a Difford and Tilbrook song:
'We signed him in the summer,November he did a runner
He headed for The Mersey,in his favourite jersey
And now it's our assumption,he left by Watford Junction'.
    Wretched.

Fark off, Silva. You slimy flash git, foreign ponce with your slappy wet baby's arse face.

See how in demand you are after the Everton job takes you down a peg, and the world knows you've got no loyalty or professional integrity.

Just fark right off you smarmy turd of a man.

I suspect we’ll have another 24hrs of speculation and then the presser tomorrow. Pressure likely to be put on Silva to say he’s not interested and that will be the ‘official’ line and the matter hopefully closed. Anything less than that and quotes along the lines of ‘I have a job to do here and am only focussed on Sunday’ and I’d say he wants out. I do think if his head had been truly turned, he’d have been taken off training duties but apparently he’s still preparing the team.

The thing I’m asking myself about this, is had the Everton job been available in the summer along with ours, where would he have gone? And the answer is the same every time. I guess it’s down to whether we have done and shown enough in 11 games to give him the desire to see this ‘stepping stone’ through to some sort of conclusion.

I agree with this, but why is £8.5m 'quite tempting'? The club would certainly be disrupted for a time and that sum would only buy a reserve full back these days.

£8.5m is not tempting. If we were to finish four places lower in the table if we lose Silva then that's the difference in PL prize money.

True. But we may need to resign ourselves that we won’t get much more than that if it happens. Compensation for managers doesn’t run nearly as high as you might think - the record is still £13m that Chelsea paid out for AVB in 2013. Turned out to be a waste but it’s surprising that no deal has surpassed that since. By comparison, Everton paid out £4m for Koeman. Again a waste, but he was highly rated at the time and Southampton dragged Everton for an age over that deal. We have turned down over double that. Shocking as it is, if Silva goes for a higher compensation amount, it will make him one of the costliest managers the game has ever seen.

Spot on Burnsy. Unfortunately managers/ coaches don't command the same compensation packages as players. It is shameful that the EPL allows these destabilizing and unethical tactics to prevail but we are playing with the big boys now. Might is right and all that. My faith remains with Gino to do the right thing. Still hope Silva rocks up tomorrow and squashes this flat but it will be in the balance until then.

I strongly believe that Silva will be picking splinters out of his rear after the press conference from the fence he’ll be sitting on. Can’t see him bluntly saying he’s not interested given the club have said nothing at all to that effect. But he’ll say all the clichéd things to try and not burn bridges with us either.

‘Got a job to do here until told otherwise...’
    ‘Focussed fully on Sunday’s game...’

What concerns me about this is that the club have said nothing official whatsoever. If there had been an approach and it had been rejected or we’ve really told them there’s no way at all that’s it’s happening, you’d think they’d want that message out there to minimise any instability.

From what I’ve seen so far and taking into account similar instances in the past, if I had to bet, I’d say there’s negotiations going on with Everton and us, that’ll be swiftly followed by us releasing statement along the lines of ‘we tried to keep him, but he made it clear he wanted to talk to them. After further discussions, we’ve reluctantly agreed to this blah blah blah’. Hope I’m wrong though.

Where the hell did you get that from?
Football banning orders were not introduced until 1989 and back then you had to practically murder someone to get slapped with one. Well actually you had to be convicted of a football related offence first.. so numbers of banned were very low. Further to that i cant see many who would suddenly jump ship even if they did pick up a ban.. especially not back then.

Everton have been a fairly successful club throughout their history.. won the League 9 times, multiple cup winners, including in Europe. They are bound to attract support from outside Merseyside. I know several here in Norway.. a couple of whom go to 10 plus games a season. Are they "plastic" in your eyes? Actually i'm not from Watford.. never lived there.. i must be plastic as well.

I wonder how many matches we have to lose in a row before everton lose interest? Because we're not going to get another point until 16 december (o-o).

You would expect at least a season though not a third of it. Any compensation would merely pay Mazzari and his cronies off. Not exactly compensating much is it.

As for Silva - hasn't he got form for falling out with boards and quiting when the cards aren't in his favour. He could well struggle with an Everton squad more disjointed than Collins John's legs if he goes.

I say bite the bullet and bring back the one true manager of Watford in recent seasons.

I agree that mangers compensation is far lower than it should be but that’s just the way it is sadly. I do wish we’d get at least a season out of Silva (and we may still do) but pragmatically, I’d rather get a near world record compensation fee for a manager than sack him, regardless of how long he’s been here. The fact that is barely covers Mazzarri and Co’s payoff is our own fault should that come to pass.

Maybe I’m far too balanced about it (which is probable) but I can see the struggle that Silva has in his mind if rumours are true - wants to remain loyal and not get a reputation - but the promise of a blank sheet, a war chest of funds and a club hoping to break into the top 6 with big plans? Hard to turn down or ignore.

Dyche has always struck me as maybe the most sensible guy in football currently, certainly in the PL - and if even he won’t distance himself from the job, then I’d say there’s quite a lot on offer from Everton to anyone interested.
