This is the last I’ll say on it because we are A. Getting waaaaay off topic and B. Going over well trodden ground. None of us know Andre Gray. None of us know Fernando Forestieri. They’ve been found guilty of what they were accused of in the eyes of the football authorities - and neither have been found guilty of a crime. Given how one admitted his mistake and has very likely worked hard to change his attitude around - and the other denied his mistake and maintains his innocence and was found innocent in a court of law, perhaps we just accept what’s happened and move past the past in both cases. Andre Gray is now engaged. This is an interview with his fiancé and her parents regarding racism... Do we really think she would be engaged to the man if she believed he was a racist? He made a mistake and has worked to atone for it. It’s mad that fans of his club still use it against him really.
I agree there is more than enough to criticise about Andre Gray’s football. We don’t need any further ammunition.
Which is fine. Let that be the debate, that’s all I’ve ever said. My belief is he will be an asset in this division, even more so if/when we play two strikers. Him and Murray could be a decent pairing as well as him and Suarez. I’d think he deserves a fresh start with the club personally.
Why must we endlessly go over this? The debate more recently was regarding him using the term ‘lighty’ and someone on here said he was racist. That person has explained what they meant also.
I’m talking about Andre Gray, not Forestieri. Although I didn’t realise the lightys comment was made by Andre Gray, I thought that was what FF had been accused off until I just double checked. The homophobic comments AG made were pretty bad in comparison (to saying he hates lightys) and far more offensive, so I assumed that’s where the comparisons were being drawn.
He played a pivotal part in 2 of the best Watford goals in my lifetime and probably Watford history: the cross for the Deeney goal and his multiple touches in setting up the complete team Battochio goal. He can be utter ***** and I’ll still love him. O Forestieri!
Two of the best moments watching Watford over the past 25 years. If he helps recreate another one and only half as good it will have been worth it.
To be honest, I didn't even know about the 'racial' comment saga, but agreed if he's held his hands up/been found innocent then fine. Hate is hate, and its wrong regardless of gender/race etc, however people do mistakes, and its a big thing to own it and work to improve yourself. Find it a bit sad some jump at people necks for asking questions on the issue on what is right/wrong - It's through debate most people learn, and it should be an open discussion (within reason of course without any hate agenda). Anyway. Back on track.
Oh and BTW lighty is a derogative term. It is used to describe mixed race people, who are often on the end of racist discrimnation from both white people and people of 100% African descent. Bob Marley , being mixed race himself, spoke of this often.
Andre Gray thread link is below everyone. http://www.wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/18-andre-gray.53213/page-16
Bob is one of my favourite artist of all time. A poet, philosopher and a great musician. Little too fond of the soft drugs and religion, but each to their own. Haven’t listened to a string of wailers’ songs in years. I am going to go up to the attic and recover my old scratched (and probably warped) records and give them another spin for old time sake.
I can’t stand reggae. There, I said it. I’ve worked in music for 16 years and it’s a great source of questioning by my colleagues.
As I said in my original post, each to their own. I have never worked in music, so I do not consider myself an expert. I just like the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers. I also have no difficulty in re-signing Fessi.
If we have re-signed Fessi, then it’s probably about giving fans something to be happy about as much as anything (which is fine by me, I love the bloke). If that is the case, does anyone else suspect they’re waiting to announce him after we lose someone? Like trying to distract a kid that grazed it’s knee by giving them sweets.
Most likely will be something to annoy everyone such as a Thursday announcement to break the trend saying "Look who's back" and there's Fernando holding a face made from fruit with Harry the Hornet behind him holding a small puppy, then in size 8 font or Windings at the bottom will be "At this moment in time, Geri, Sarr, Hughes, Estupinian and Suarez have left the club with immediate effect"
I hope we don't. Don't like cheats and that is without the other stuff. We used to have higher standards.
Andre Gray - **** footballer, **** human being and **** discussion topic. Is there nothing this **** cannot ruin?
I love the old stuff. Toots and the Maytalls, Desmond Dekker, Greyhound and all the Trojan stuff. Chaka Demus and Pliers, UB40 and Aswad, not so much.
Btw on the lighty subject, I haven't read the whole thread so not sure how the debated started but I'm well versed in the culture and particularly with the context Andre Gray used the word. "Lighty" is light skin black people and sometimes mixed race. There are some misplaced yet common (and slightly light-hearted) beliefs that light skin people see themselves as greater, more attractive etc etc. More commonly with light skin females who people joke about being "boujee" aka playing hard to get. People like Stormzy have referenced bringing "dark skin back into fashion" many times and it was a thing a few years ago on Twitter. Andre Gray himself is what would be defined as a light skin black man so it certainly wasn't racist.
If you speak to black people they wanted to OWN the word, hence them using it and nobody else. You'll find black people who also think it's stupid but it's not yours or my fight to have. If a black person wants to use the word to feel like it gives oneself control and ownership of the word, then neither of us can tell him that's wrong tbh.
