I suspect he has an even bigger personal incentive to stay in the Premier, plus his job!

    Gueds

Gueds has been too keen to impress in the few 5 mins cameos he's been given so far and hence has run about like a headless chicken.

I'd give him a start against Newcastle to see what he can do.

I'm not sure that he's got the ball retention we need for the prem, but I'd like to be prooved wrong so give him a start I say and have a chance of playing some serious minutes

  5. Lloyd

    Lloyd Squad Player

Did well when he came on at Villa but was awful v Sunderland and, arguably, partly to blame for City's winner on Saturday. If he survives beyond January he'll be shipped out in the summer

    Charges around/not good enough/stupid/smiles too much/rubbish/headless chicken/shagged my missus/likes Eastenders/ball rentention/can't pass/can't shoot/played for us in the Championship/not good enough for Palace/cost us a goal against City/can't spell his stupid name

That covers every anti-Guedioura argument since July doesn't it?

Start him. And again against Southampton.

That's the way I see it. He was awful last week - not recognisable as the player we saw last season. But if he was confident he'd get game time to show what he can do in a match situation, I think he would be more effective if less flashy than Jurado. But we won't know until he's been given a chance.

  8. Lloyd

More effective than Jurado? Are you serious?

Well you've covered the facts...now give a reason why he should start.

    Let me start you off...

He loves Watford / Was great in the Championship / Fanboys need him to start to justify their existence / he loves Watford / He's better than Jurardo (I dare you to use that one) / Only gives the ball away when we're winning so it doesn't matter.

    You're turn...

I would give him the whole game and put Jurado on the bench, we know what Jurado can do now and is still improving as each game comes along. I wonder what Gueds can do if given the start he needs and what a tired team would be like faced with a fresh Jurado coming on at 75 minutes?

  12. Meh!

    Meh! Pre-Dictator

Start him. See what he can do.

Every single argument for every player on here is "QSF obviously sees something in him so give him time", so why not for Gueds? He's getting on the bench and getting time on the pitch so QSF must see something good in him.

I'm on the fence myself, and none of us have really seen any real game time out of him this season to make an opinion.

Against Villa he came on and looked really sound, plus he troubled the keeper severely twice from outside the box, something that's been lacking from some of our other midfield players who seem too scared to shoot from far out (unless they've been ordered otherwise).

Against Man City he did run around like a headless chicken for the short time he was on, but you can barely blame him for either goal.

Give him a start against a prem team in the cup, and see how he is. If crap, then half of you were wrong, if amazing then the other half were. Either way it will be based on a decent amount of game time.

Jurado has had some very poor performances this season, but is now coming good after probably 1000 minutes of game time. Guedioura has spent about half of that time doing sprints on the sideline, and the other half sitting next to Diamanti and Arlauskis in the disappointment club. Opportunity has weighed so heavily in Jurado's favour, that it's completely unfair to compare them.

The subtext of this whole mass rejection of Guedioura is just that people want to vindicate Flores. The nuthuggery is so through the roof that people have just adopted whatever the manager does as their opinion. Which is a shame.

Here's to the "I never rated Abdi" narrative when he gets dropped later in the season.

Give him a start against Newcastle, but give him the hook if he is not performing, seems the fairest way to me.

So you think the fact that he hasn't played as often this season is all that's stopping Guedioura having the same ability as Jurado do you?

Like all players, Ighalo included in his period with us, he needs game time. Not surprising that he seems to be trying too hard when he gets his customary 2 to 15 mins....he hasn't become a poor player overnight....lets give him 90 minutes against the Toon and on his favoured RH side and then see.....Jurado was superb against City, but look how long that performance has taken

Geuds is not and never will be, a player whose primary skill is ball retention.....what he is, is a player who wants to get forward, create chances and have a pot....and that might ultimately be his undoing in a Flores team. The shame is, if we lose Ighalo for any period, the lack of goals and goal attempts from our midfielders will be in the spotlight and Gueds is one who can do this for us but I am increasingly doubtful if he'll get the chance.

The shame is that we all know where he'll end up if he leaves....

Jurado wasn't brilliant earlier in the season, but despite that you could clearly see what a good player he is and that he could be an excellent performer for us if given time to find his feet (which a large number of people said at the time, something I'm sure WatfordTalk could confirm from a bookmark).

In contrast, Gueds has yet to show signs that he can fit into our current team. He's not going to replace Jurado, Capoue, Watson or Deeney, so unless you believe he's better than Abdi there's simply no starting berth for him outside of rotation.

So this 'nuthuggery' doesn't apply to you and Gueds????????

Hello Pot, I'd like to introduce you to Kettle...

Vindicating QSF is unnecessary...it seems your approval of him starts and ends with him playing Gueds no matter what.

YOU are desperate for vindication over Gueds.

If he plays and has a stormer then I'm happy. If he plays and stinks the place out then you can put it down to lack of game time...either way you win.

If we go on a 10 game losing streak, trust me...Gueds isn't the answer.

He should start because Flores says he has been unlucky and deserves more game time.

Pretty much all there is to it.

And is there anything to suggest he won't start...barring injury or bad week training?

It depends on whether QSF plays his 'usual' starting 11. I hope he rests a few and gives him a start.

  25. Bore

    Bore Reservist

He has to start. We need to rest as many of the 1st 11 as possible. This could be his only chance to prove himself.

I never thought he was a QSF signing. It was a Pozzos signing to placate the Vydra loan to Reading.

Can't see him being with us next season but give him a chance to impress on Saturday at same time as resting the midfield starting 4

I try to avoid using terms like a "good" player. I prefer more precise terms like "skilful", "elegant" or "effective". Fabb was skilful but produced nothing; Angella was elegant but his regular failure to concentrate meant that he wasn't a particularly effective defender. I agree that from early in the season you could see that Jurado was skilful, but I still question his effectiveness, though I'd admit that his last two appearances at the Vic have been his best.

If I get time I'll write up the three-minute highlights clip of Jurado against Man City.

QSF is the best Watford manager I've seen in my 29 years. He is approved, whether Guedioura plays or doesn't play, stays or goes. So throw that nonsense out the window, and stop trying to paint me as an extreme partisan.

If Guedioura turns out to be a not up to par, i'll happily hold my hands up. But I cannot do that yet because he's barely played.

Your accusations are so black and white, it's ridiculous. It's like arguing with a child.

    A child???

I apologise for the lack of subtle nuances, however your posts are usually "wah wah wah...why won't he play Guedioura"...I simply respond in kind as it seems the only way you understand.

  29. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

I've not seen anything to suggest that, I'm just answering the question posed by the OP, not arguing against an unknown.

I'd be disappointed if he doesn't start. But equally I'll be disappointed if he doesn't rest three quarters of the team.

So if Quique is the best manager you've seen you'd trust him to play Guedioura if he was good enough yes? We all know Guedioura was fantastic last season but so were Vydra, Forestieri, Angella and Tozser. I'm sure Quique loves Adlene's attitude as we all do but as with Palace, maybe he just struggles with the step up to Premier League level.

  33. Douglas Rinaldi

Having trust in someone doesn't mean you need to agree with everything they do. And managers don't work purely based on players being good enough - they have favourites and biases like everyone else. Hence why Wayne Rooney and James Milner will be the first names of Roy Hodgson's team sheet come the summer.

For arguments sake, Guedioura was better for us last season than all of the players you mentioned. And they've all left the club.

  34. Hornet23

    Hornet23 First Team

Oh yeah I agree that he was better than the players I mentioned which is probably why we brought him back for this season. I'm just making the point that probably all of us would have thought those players were good enough to make the step up but they haven't been deemed good enough. I don't know how much say Quique had in Guedioura's transfer, it's clear he likes his attitude and appreciates what he means to the fans though. But there have been plenty of chances to put Guedioura on but he's put a not fully fit Behrami on the right and even Paredes on the right of midfield ahead of him which suggests to me that Quique isn't convinced, no matter how much he talks him up. Of course I could be wrong, I hope I am, and Quique really rates Guedioura and as the season goes on he gets more playing time and starts a few once we've got to 40 points.
