It's not an opinion, it's factually wrong. Abdi is an attacking midfielder and has played in most of our games this season - probably more so than both Anya and Jurado.

Also, his best season didn't come playing in a midfield two with Chalobah - it came when he played in a midfield three just in front of Chalobah and Hogg/Battocchio.

Fair enough, I was just talking about the season he won player of the year under Zola mate..

You're all wrong. QSF knows who goes where. ;)

Mate, that was the season he was referring to mate.

Yep... The season when he was an attacking midfielder behind the front two, a position which is his unquestionably his best position. As an attacking midfielder, in case we weren't clear

This does make me sad as I really want the lad to help us this season. you can't help but love him for the passion he shows. I don't believe Flores doesn't rate him, as he wouldn't be in the squad otherwise. That said, if we strengthen in Jan then maybe it could be curtains for Gueds then. I hope not as I would love for him to play a part for us this season. Just as I would have loved Fessi and Vydra to do so too but we need to think with our minds, not our hearts and leave sentiment at home. Flores has worked absolute wonders and we've just got to trust his judgement.

Flores seems so so meticulous and it seems he will only start those that he can trust 100% to have the ability and mindset to carry out his game plan. Having said that I don't think Gueds would have tweeted that if he had merely learnt he was on the bench again, as he has gone on record staying he knows he needs to be patient. My tuppence worth is that he isn't even in the squad for tomorrow, so he got the hump, tweeted that and then Troy saw and had a word and said you wants to take that down before the gaffer sees otherwise you'll be off to somewhere sheite like Reading in the transfer window.

Jurado, Deeney and Anya to start in the 3. Abdi on the bench with Diamanti/Berghuis. No other midfielders needed.

There was an article just this week where Guedioura said he loves Watford and knows he has to be patient. Does anyone actually know he's referring to us?

    No. They don't. All assumptions.

Btw, I'm pretty sure he'd have started if he hadn't picked up a knock the week before.

I can still see the tweet so it hasn't been deleted. For all we know it could be a bit of advice directed towards one of his friends or even one of his other teammates.

I prefere to think this Tweet has been misinterparated by many of you, and that it has a completely different meaning to what has been assumed!

Worst case scenario he is actually pissed off and in January we lose a player who has played about half an hour of football for us this season. I think we'll survive!

You mean the made up injury created by QSF to excuse himself for still picking Jurado?

    I like Jurado.

The question everyone should be asking is: How does Ikechi Anya get in ahead of Guedioura?

    In a word, pace.

keeps opposition on their toes and keeps them pegged back a little.

I like Jurado too, but he makes no sense in this system unless he's contributing with pieces of individual brilliance.

Flores is definitely at odds with his own pragmatism when it comes to Jurado, and think he's let sentiment get in the way of his otherwise rational decision-making. Both Anya and Guedioura make more sense to me, currently.

  21. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Indeed. Considering that when Jurado plays we've proved we can win games with 10 men, so if Guedioura wants to leave, he can go.

  22. The problem with your argument is we don't know if Guedioura can contribute any pieces of individual brilliance at this level and in this system and on the left hand side

There is no doubting he had a great season last year, as one of our central 3, at a different level, but that counts for squat this season

As for Anya, no one can ever question his work rate, his effort, or his pace. But all too often his decision making, beating the last man, and crossing lets him down

I'm not suggesting Jurado is the answer on the left, but I'm suggesting Guedioura isn't, probably why we're looking at wingers like Iturbe

I disagree to certain extent. As he showed last week he wasn't static as in sticking rigidly to the flanks. However, it's a fluid system where he and Abdi have licence to roam - when we have possession. They're are supposed to be mobile whilst not abandoning the defensive responsibilities. However the area we have to work on is keeping possession. When it's worked it's been fantastic, when teams try to counter it, I'll borrow from an NHL phrasebook here, we find a way to win...that's what it comes down...finding a way to win.

Now you call it pragmatism, I call it football awareness of the league we're in.

I don't think he expected to be a key player, but I think he was hoping for more than 2 minute cameos once every few weeks for a club that made him feel accepted.

  25. lotiman

er....he did just that in a 20 minute cameo at Villa

    Put that cameo in context....

  27. Douglas Rinaldi

You're right, we don't know because all we have to work off is a 15 minute cameo at Villa (in which he played very well), and 2 minute spells here and there.

I disagree that last season counts for nothing - several member of our team built their reputation in the Championship, as did other players throughout the league. The step up is not that big.

Guedioura was our best player towards the end of last year. He's energetic, strong and a good passer. Only 6 months ago people were falling all over him, so I'm not buying that he's suddenly not good enough. And with Jurado struggling, he fills a need. It's not about him becoming a key player or a definitive part of Flores' plans, but it seems bizarre that he's been frozen out.

If we had Iturbe then he'd been in my team for sure. But currently, we don't.

Well gueds didn't do much to enhance his chances today, but keep the faith people, his time will come.

It wouldnt actually surprised me if he started against Liverpool now, just to confuse us all!

I don't think anyone did tbh. Today was probably our worst performance of the season, yet somehow we've come away with a win!

?? He was everywhere, drew a great save by the keeper and injected twice as much energy as Jurado....

Exactly why does Jurado start ahead of him?

Don't forget Gueds has played less than 90minutes for us this season, so he is bound to be a little rusty. If he is given a start or two to shake away the cobwebs I reckon we will see why he was so popular last season!

  32. Luther Bassett

My context would be that we very probably would have failed to hang on without his contribution, it was that significant. Given that he did the same on around three occasions last season, Derby and Forest in particular, it's got to be part of his make up, and quite unusual, to my mind.

  33. Wasn't bad, but he did nothing to show why he should be first choice next week ahead of any other player.

Gave the ball away several times instead of playing keep ball, which was always his weakness at Palace ad why in the end he never made their 25 man squad. You can do that in the championship but at this level more often than not you get punished.

Not knocking him, as I've always said he's a good squad player.

I reckon he will get a start against Newcastle in the cup, as will some of the other fringe players. I think it is also likely that Newcastle will put out a weakened side as Premier survival is much more important.

McLaren has a significant cup wining incentive, something like a £1m personal bonus... that changes the dynamic a bit
