Is Marco Silva all that?

Football is football, and so the likelihood now is that Marco will leave, which is bitterly dissapointing as things seemed so different so far this season.

But from his career longevity I’m struggling to see why Everton? It’s still a toxic environment, brought on by their own fans, is completely counter productive to his style of football, at which he’d have to invest heavily in January if he does go. But they’ll still be expecting instant results from him, and we’re only in the middle of November with the whole Christmas period to come, let alone the bedding in period for any new signings. I think this is genuinely a huge decision for his career as he has a high, high level of potential, but I just can’t see him making a success of it at Everton to what they’re expecting.

How long would the Everton fans give him - look at how quickly they turned against the 2 previous managers?

Despite looking like relegation candidates their fans still expect top 7 and European football I feel!

All that money to spend might look nice but adds pressure too.

Very well reasoned Jossy. Quote in Daily Mirror this morning attributed to Gino - 'absolutely no interest whatsoever' in entertaining any move for Silva. Reckon he is a stubborn so and so. Everton are amateur negotiators compared to the Pozzos despite the filthy money on offer. Still confident Silva not going anywhere.

When Silva leaves it will be for a much bigger club than Everton. The Arsenal and possibly Spurs jobs could be up for grabs at the end of the season if the latter loses their man to Spain. Plenty of huge Champions League clubs across Europe also looking at new coaches next year. Everton will struggle to make the Europa League. All Silva has to do his hold his nerve, keep doing a good job for us and he will get his dream move. Still think he has more integrity than to throw his dummy out of the pram. Don't believe Deeney would be too bothered though...

Like someone else said, if he stays and he did want to leave will the players respect him anymore? I say get rid and get Wagner in from Huddersfield.

I don't think he'll go. But, if he does, then he'll be a c.nt. And I don't like c.nts. So, if he does, then I will make it my personal mission to get right behind him in the dugout for our home match (or closer) and give him dog's abuse until he takes a swing at me or I get ejected. And I'll take a bit of ejecting.

You heard it here first. I am a man of integrity and my word is my bond. Should this bout take place then tickets will be on sale at a later date.

Yep, unless he puts out a statement today saying his has no interest whatsoever in those thieving rats, then he can leave today.

The club keep telling us the manager is not so important at our club because of the set up behind the scenes, so we really should not let this twit mess us around. He wants to go to everton? Then go.

It shows a big lack of ambition on their part imo. 1 relegation with hull. 3 games lost in a row with us, 2 of which were from winning positions. Dumped out of the cup to lower league garbage.....I'd expect a club with a billionaire owner and lofty ambitions to be looking beyond someone who is at the moment just a lot of hype and potential.

Last para there is spot on. From the comments I have read, a lot of Everton fans seem to agree. It also explains why he is interested. Leave for big bucks while your stock is high before you get fully found out.

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

    Agreed.
    It appears to depend on the following;
    a) Gino playing not so much hard ball as concrete ball.
    b) MS seeing the bigger picture and as Ray says, awaiting a bigger and better run club than Everton.
    c) MS being afraid of Kelso.

    I'm not sure of b and c but I'm confident on a.

For a club looking to break into the so called elite this is not the way forward.
We should be going all out for a Tuchel or Ancelotti
Keep Unsworth and co in charge until the above happens.

I’ve already expressed my views on Silva and how I don’t rate him. If he goes, I for one won’t be bothered. We’ve probably got the best midfield outside the top six teams. If a new coach comes in, we’ll be ok, we might even defend corners the right way and keep more clean sheets.
If Everton take him, it’ll be a blessing in disguise

...and then watch us getting castigated by the press for stealing someone else's manager; followed by pundits saying, "well they've had x managers in y years, there's no stability" etc.

Silva has us playing a much better style of football and the players look a lot more organized. It infuriates me that he continues to use zonal marking, given that we constantly concede due to it, but he is still better than any other manager available at the moment, as far as I'm aware. Who would we replace him with?

    Hello lads, Everton fan here.

I get the impression that you're as split on Silva as a manager as we are, some point to how well he did at Hull in what was pretty much an already relegated side and subsequently how he's done for you so far this season, whereas others point to him being relatively unproven on a bigger stage over a consistent period.

I'm undecided on how I feel about the approach we've supposedly made, I mean a load of our fans raved about us steaming in and taking Koeman off Southampton and we all know how that ended. I have a gut feeling that Silva will go on to be a top class manager, but I can't help but feel he'd be better served staying at Watford if he is looking at progression in the longer term.

We're a bit of a mess and have been for a long time, throwing money at managers to try and fix a problem that is far more deep rooted than a managerial appointment, from top to bottom we are a complete shambles and that's largely down to people like Kenwright/Elstone, and to a lesser extend Moshiri. Until we resolve those issues we can spend endless amounts of compensation on taking managers off other clubs and ******* off a whole load of people in football, but it won't fix the bigger problems and it won't put us where we want to be.

    A nuanced view.

I'm not split, I want him to stay, and I'm frankly surprised at the amount of posters on here who seem to be freaking out saying he's 'basically gone'. Business wise, this is a terrible idea for the Pozzos, and I cannot for a minute see them countenancing allowing him to leave in such a manner. They have all the power, and it's not like he can down tools and sulk. We've heard nothing from him, and it's likely we won't because that's not really his job, other than to say he is focused on his current role if asked in a presser. We're also not in the business of losing managers mid-season, despite the year of the 5 managers; an incredibly anomalous situation.

Overall, I'd be shocked if this comes to pass.
