Is Marco Silva all that?

In my opinion he's a hugely overrated manager and I was never keen on the appointment to be fair so you're probably not asking the best person. He has lived on the coat tails of a very successful playing career, he's done nothing significant as a manager and was massively over hyped. I suspect had it not been for his playing career with Barcelona then his name wouldn't have been mentioned with their job.

He was up against it this season with the start we had but lots were willing to overlook the first few games as long as there were signs that we might have progressed, the problem is we've have gone backwards and there didn't look any sign of that changing. It resembled the last days of Martinez tenure and the players couldn't have looked any less interested in playing for him. I have no idea how true they were but there were rumours of fallings out with many players, something which he supposedly had a reputation for and you never got the impression that he was committed to Everton as a long term project.

His man management and tactics were baffling at times and that was made even more difficult by trying to incorporate numerous new players, by the time he went he just looked out of ideas and uninterested so I think it was the right time to go. I hate advocating a manager be sacked that quickly into a season but it we looked in freefall and something had to be done.

I simply can’t understand why it’s disrespectful to go after Silva. I agree it’s dirty if they’ve used a chain of agents and middle-men to approach him to gauge his interest before doing anything official (which as I have stated above, I expect is what has happened) but if they haven’t done this and they have simply decided amongst themselves that Silva is the man they want, all they’ve done is approach him in the best interests of their club. Why is that disrespectful?

I love the idea that if you sack your manager, you have to pick from the unattached managers available but that will never happen unless there is a transfer window for managers - which won’t happen.

Everton probably know (murkily, granted) that he’s interested. But if we had proof of them doing anything illegal, we’d have pulled a Southampton/Liverpool/Van Dijk and released a statement and informed the FA. Plus, I ask - if Silva still had years on his Hull contract but we knew he was the man we wanted, do you think we’d have acted all above board or gone for someone unattached? Going by why Dowling has said in interviews since leaving us about the way we’ve ocassionally done business, I highly doubt it.

Interesting view and I defer to your personal experience of him as a manager. I was quite impressed that he took Soton to their highest finishes in EPL and Everton finished 7th last season.

From the outside it seemed to unravel quickly for him but as is usally the case the fans can see things happening way before the pundits and other fans do. Some of the generic ill informed rubbish I see written about our club is hilarious.

I think the biggest worry was there being no sign of progress. We were lucky not to be worse off on points when Niasse saved us against Bournemouth.

He spent £45m on Sigurdsson and then rarely played him in the correct position, we played a system that needed wingers but he rarely played more than 1 at a time if we were lucky, he persisted with Ashley Williams, just a few examples but he seemed a bit lost.

So Sky Sports, who own Sky Bet, are happy now everyone has piled money on Silva, change tact and write a story that opens it up for people to pile money on Unsworth or anyone else. I’m sceptical of any story which include ‘Sky Sources’ or the phrase ‘...Sky Sports understands’ given their obvious penchant for writing whatever they please to encourage people to put bets on for their financial gain.

I’d say this one isn’t over until Everton say anything official.

Can’t be nice being Unsworth though. Stand-in at a club you love and knowing full well the only way you’re getting your dream job is by default. If the believed in him, he’d have got the job 24hrs after beating us.

So that's a couple of sources that have suggested Silva was interested in speaking to them. As far as I'm concerned he can go and f**k himself now, we've seen over the last 2 seasons the impact on player performances uncertainty over the manager has. I fear this season is going to drift into obscurity again.

Don't know if anyone posted this source yet. For Sky Sport sceptics this isn't a SkySports source. Personally I'm not concerned he'd have been interested in listening to Everton, that is only natural as for while they're in the **** at the moment they would likely have a larger fund available for players and perhaps more freedom to choose his players for better and worse as evidenced by the transfers made by Koeman.

I guess it'll be good if he stay, but this has left a very bad taste in my mouth. We all know he has ambitions higher than us, but being prepared to ditch us after 11 games? It's absolutely outrageous really.

He really couldnt give one single toss about us.

Well done to the board for their stance. Watford cannot bullied and Everton have gone away embarrassed, as their shameful public approach for Silva has come to nothing.

Even fat Sam isn’t interested, which hilarious. Maybe Everton are not as attractive as they think they are.

We all know Silva won’t be with Watford long but to lose him now would seriously harm the club. If he wants to move in he can do it in the close season when Watford have an opportunity to employ another coach and set everything up in a constructive way, rather than working in turmoil.

Turmoil is for Everton. They’ve made their bed and they can bloody well lay in it.

They had the opportunity to fire Koeman in the Summer and bring in Silva when he was available if they wanted him this badly but chose to stick with Koeman and granted him to run the club the way he chose to. But, because of poor football and results they ditched him and now are trying to unsettle other clubs in a bid to save themselves. Scummy.

Silva has been locked in the safe.

Interestingly, Dominic Foley was found inside at the same time and is expected to start against West Ham on Sunday.

Doesn't 'gardening leave' mean you are paid for doing nothing?
Rather than him not actually coaching the side and if he has no break clause then either:
    a) Insist he continues to work for Watford (he would have to try his hardest or his reputation would be shot); or
    b) Sell him to Everton at a great price.
My preferred option would be a). (Unless Everton make a ridiculous offer).

Probably best to lay off stating it as matter of factly. These things are generally proven to have legs and until Everton have a manager who isn’t Silva, the uncertainty will continue unless Marco says anything publically to the contrary. Sky Sports isn’t a font of truth so it isn’t time to celebrate just yet.

No.......... He wants to further his career. And that is all he has ever wanted. At least he has never claimed he has always loved WFC and has a poster of Luther on his bedroom wall. We know where we are with him and always did. If there is no break clause we don't have to let him go. And he would wreck his reputation if he threw his toys out of the pram after just 12 games. I don't blame him for being business-like but two can play at that.

Portugese press have said that when Everton approached ( last week and again yesterday) that Silva said he was interested in listening to Everton but not without Watfords blessing and so intended to honour his contract with Watford.

Makes you wonder why these things are played out in public. Why not behind closed doors? over the phone? or in this day and age, video conference. I mean the players needn't know let alone the press or conversely.. us.

The only reason i can think of such dealings becoming public knowledge is so the club trying to fill their position can look like they are actively doing something.
