Is Marco Silva all that?

Money talks , rumors saying he’s speaking to Everton today , if that’s the case then it’s done , the players and fans won’t have that ,

He's good in that our team is a revelation in playing style compared to last season but he has a lot to learn, as you saw at your place and in the previous 2 games against Stoke and Chelsea. Trouble is, there's such a load of dross floating about imitating football managers that it's not difficult to stand out.

We already helped you out last match and you have come back for more! Surely Unsworth is worth a chance in stabilising Everton. You have a much better chance in getting a big name manager at season end. A better alternative is Dyche...less compensation and he will solidly build from the back. By the way Pickford was amazing last time out for England. Otherwise move along...nothing to see here...you have our unequivocal answer regarding Silva. Best of luck with your search elsewhere I hope.

If he does leave I suspect we'll see him on the managerial merry go round in 12-18 months because the current setup and atmosphere at Everton will annihilate anyone that takes the job. It's all about finding the right fit and Silva and Watford appear to be a good fit for each other at the moment, sadly though money will talk.

I'd be happy for us to appoint someone until the end of the season and review where we're at come the end of the season (preferably not the Championship), then we need to have a massive review of our current strategy and clear out loads of the playing and backroom staff as well as the board.

I went off on a bit of a tangent about the running of our club but essentially what I'm saying is that if I were Silva I'd stay put if I had any interest in long term career progression.

Agreed, although not necessarily about Unsworth being the one to stabilise us, but then the alternative is Allardyce, and I'd rather have Kim Jong-Un in charge than him, he'd bring less disgrace on the club.

The way these things pan out is that Silva is going, always starts with an approach, that gets turned downed and the circus begins, hope I am wrong but I think the writing is on the wall. God knows who we will get in, I am more concerned why Silva will even consider leaving, there must be something behind the scenes that he is not happy about, he knew we have a manager go round at the end of each season so cant blame that, something is not right somewhere behind the scenes, hope Everton announce Dyche later and I can eat humble pie

This is a curious one really.

Let’s start off with Everton: Undoubtedly a club with new lofty ambitions that are falling way short at present. The problem is, that’s probably the lure for a manager. Not many managers will want to walk into a club where the previous incumbent was a roaring success. The desire to turn around a clubs fortunes is far greater rather than maintaining any status quo of success. From what I can see with Everton, is that this Moshiri guy has wads and wads of cash, plenty of ambition but not much of a ‘football brain’. Most likely why he’s kept the notoriously thrifty and pragmatic Kenwright on the scene - their profiles are polar opposites and the sensibility of Kenwright won’t last long if Moshiri starts to realise his dreams. It’s all very well us saying the atmosphere seems toxic and/or the job looks like a poisoned chalice - the fact is that with the stadium on the horizon and the promise of the funds available, they are the most likely to break into the top 6 out of the rest. I can see why most managers would want to hear what they have to say...

Marco Silva: Well, we haven’t heard anything other than ‘he’d like the opportunity’ to speak them. Now, if true, I think we all know what that means - it’s very rare, although it does happen, that a manager decides to stay when he’s spoken to new suitors. We knew what we were getting when we hired Silva. He’s ambitious and wants to go to the very top. He may well see Everton as a better ticket to do that than us - given what I’ve said above, I think he’d be right. But the expectations to do so will be huge and the timescale smaller to achieve it. This will be something he’ll have weighed up before deciding he wants to speak with them. If he still wants to, I suspect he’s mentally as good as gone. Some are saying he should wait as he will get a bigger job in the summer - which one? He may well be on the radar of the big boys but actually getting the job there amongst the managers that would undoubtedly be interested is another thing. He’s probably thinking it’s better to take the Everton job while it’s available now and worry about those jobs in the future. He’s ambitious, he’ll back himself to do very well at Everton. What is sour to some is that he’s only been with us for a handful of games - I actually think this is a good staging post to find out why type of guy he really is.

And lastly Gino/Watford: There will be a plan in place for succession. This will all boil down to whether Silva wants to go and makes it known. He won’t do it publically. I suspect the powers that be at Everton already know the answer - they’ve taken a long time to fill the vacancy and wouldn’t risk the meltdown on Merseyside of going for a manager who would turn them down. For me, the approach alone says that he wants to go. A big question is can Silva get on with things if Gino says ‘no way whatsoever Marco’? If the story is true, then Gino obviously has the faith that he can keep him on board and appease him. Silva can use this as a bargaining chip for increased funds in January. But the media buzz around Silva is such that we will have to get used to this type of thing. He’s going to be linked with a lot of jobs unless we fall away dramatically. Whenever a job arises, he’ll likely be in the 3 or 4 favourites and most chairman’s shortlist’s. The figure of £8.5m is about par for the course I’d imagine - but if the impasse is that Silva is desperate to go but Gino wants to keep him, the way to solve it, is to call up Farhad Moshiri and let him know in no uncertain terms that you know Silva has been approached illegally, you know the extent of Moshiri’s wealth, and you outline the need of Silva to Watford and his current stock in the game - display that you hold ALL the cards. Then quote a massive fee and watch it play out.

Watford are in a very strong position here when you consider it’s a negative thing on paper for the club. The only downside I see, is our reputation for manager turnover (some of it out fault, some of it not) and this won’t help, even if unavoidable. Who do we get next that will appease the playing staff we now have in the building?

I think your extra investment is a double edged sword. Kenwright probably always has to defer to the owner now, who I doubt knows much about football. It's taken you 22 days to get to the position where Unsworth is in limbo and you are trying to prise coaches from reluctant clubs. I would say that is a bit messy. The difference for us is that our owners do know the business and will have contingencies already worked if Silva does leave.

I've been wavering on the Season Ticket for a while now, I think if he leaves then this is my last season as a holder as I'm just sick of it. My only problem is the boy, he loves going but at 12 he's not quite old enough to do his own thing just yet. Year after year we support the team but get people looking after the team who are either incompetent or don't give a f***. I'm pi**ed off right now, so if Silva goes I think I'm done. Bring back the Championship.

How stupid am I? Just seen the odds on Betfair are 2/1 so put £20 on him leaving.

He won't be going anywhere now.

  13. Can't see it happening, this is all b/s

Silva isn't going to walk out of a job 3 months in - it would destroy his character

He will eventually go but to a proper big club like Arsenal not a sideways move to Everton

Gino isn't going to release him from his contract except for stupid money - the difference between 7th and 17th is tens of millions of pounds so Everton will need to be talking telephone numbers imo

I'll give you that on current form it's sideways move, but in terms of stature of club we're still a step up, just not a very big one and not a big enough one to walk out 3 months into a job. I appreciate that might not be the opinion of most of you but it's just a fact and not an attempt to be a patronising ***.

I guess the question is whether Moshiri is willing to write-off the prospect of success this season and have faith in Unsworth to keep you up and then come back for Silva at the seasons end when it’s likely going to be easier and cheaper to get him? But from what you are saying, there’s far more to sort out at Goodison beyond just staying up/getting Silva.

Yes. But sadly the only way to counter this is to, as you say, go back to the Championship (which could potentially be very damaging) or hire the likes of Big Sam who would do a job, keep us up but make it very boring to watch again. But he would unlikely leave, because he’s unfashionable and not really wanted elsewhere regardless of result’s. The Pozzos have sacked QSF and Mazzarri for doing the exact thing that Allardyce is often lauded for.

This is the way our club is now.

Our fans will take to twitter and call him Marco Snake, about 7 fans will claim to throw away their season ticket (but not until the end of the season) and the 1881 will be fuming that they just purchased a flag six times bigger than the stadium with Silva's face on it.

Of course you have a much bigger fan base/history that us, but all that is irrelevant in the current era of football.

If Moshiri is not a fraud, then it's a massive step up. I said it earlier, but if the new stadium/masses of cash for signings is true, then I cant think of a better job in english football to take. Who wouldnt want to be the manager in charge of that? It's a better job than arsenal or liverpool (the other big clubs likely to be soon looking for a new manager) I'd say.

But, this is everton and I'm sorry to say to an outsider you are a bit of a joke club these days and it wouldnt at all surprise me to see all these new stadium dreams collapse in a heap when your new owner gets arrested for some crime or other. It seems to me you are destined to be forever in the shadow of liverpool (and that pains me, as I hate liverpool more than any other team in this league, everything about that club is phoney).

The whole setup just seems a bit disjointed and probably will do until Moshiri assumes full control. You've got Kenwright and Elstone still in positions where they influence the day to day running of the club, you have to question why you'd leave 2 men who have presided over our gradual decline over a number of years to still play any part in the running of the club. Then you have Steve Walsh who appears to be on a huge pay packet to do, well, I'm not entirely sure what he does.

I hope you hold firm and tell us to stick our offer.

Spot on sadly, it would come as no surprise to see the stadium move collapse and for Moshiri to be banged up when 20 young eastern european women are found in the back of a lorry that he's driving down the M6.

Thing is that if he stays and we finish 11th, say, we'd all say he's done a good job. Go to Everton and finish 11th he'll be slaughtered by the fans. I can't see a good reason on his career path to move to them now.

  23. But it's not a fact though is it. You Everton fans come across as thinking of yourselves as a big club but you're as far away from the top 6 now as you've ever been.

What does stature of club even mean anyway? You sound like a Forest, Weeds or Wednesday fan...

Maybe not, but this might be the only time he'll ever be offered six million quid+ a year. Who would turn that down?

Even if he went there and it all went wrong, he's done enough in the past to ensure he'd get another mid-table job somewhere or other.

We're a way off being a top 6 club at this time, there's a lot to sort out before we can start thinking about the top 6 again and this season is a complete write off.

You compare me to whichever clubs fans you like mate if it makes you feel better.

His use of Jim White to get his message out and his suggestion that Simeone was a target (it was Mourinho to replace Martinez) is embarrassing and something he needs to rein in. His excuse for not selling James McCarthy when we were dumped by Sissoko was equally cringeworthy.

It would be a little disappointing if Silva clears off, but not a surprise and certainly not the disaster some people seem to think. There is no such thing as 'loyalty' in modern footer so it's unreasonable and naive of people to expect him to show us any - who wouldn't change jobs if the chance to double/treble your salary came along? We've seen 'em come and we've seen 'em go. I'd like him to stay but if he chooses to go, good luck to him.

I would be hugely disappointed if Silva goes but more worried about the dross out there when looking at a replacement.

Everton a likeable club, always thought an affinity with Z cars, the friendly Wembley final and our first ever game in the old first division but do find it disrespectful them approaching an in work manager when plenty of other unemployed options out there and particularly bearing in mind it has taken three weeks for them to get things moving

  31. None so blind that will not see...

Everton's average league position since the premier league started in 92 is.... ~11th

I agree with most of this. Whilst it wouldn't be a "disaster" (to use your word) if he left, it would be a shame if his replacement didn't encourage the team to play the same sort of attacking, exciting football that we've been treated to this season. I wouldn't want to have to suffer the same boring, unappealing stuff we had to watch during Walter's reign.

Why did everyone turn so quickly on Koeman after only 10 league games?

Admittedly it wasnt the best start but 5 of your games were against top 6 and you had Europa to deal with.

It was only a year ago he was being touted as future Barcelona manager and then he finished 7th with Everton last season. Seems strange that after 10 games hes suddenly the worst manager in the world.
