I remember reading in W/O a few weeks back that the club would be willing to be flexible on the financials for the 'right player'...

Bassini said that we would not be adhering to the rigid wage structure for the right player as you said, Tommy certainly fits into that bracket.

The only problem is that once you raise the wage restriction for one player you have set a president. Though I agree with you Tommy would be worth that wage.

I thought we had raised our wage limit at the beginning of the season, does anyone have an idea what it is?

If he doesnt ask to leave QPR (eg hand in a transfer request) QPR have to pay his contract up. He would then have enough £££ in the bank to sign for us on £5k a week.

Im with you. This is far too good a move for us and he is a fans favourite. Although Id love him back this is going to be Kevin Phillips all over again. If he does leave QPR itll be for someone else, probably QPR or Brighton knowing our luck

Clearly, you won't state sources name for obvious reasons, but would you rely on this person? Close connections with the club? Praying that this move is a goer as he is one of my favourite Wfc players ever!

I would love it so much but he has appeared in qprs last 3 games so any deal wouldnt make much sense surely?!

This isn't from any source of mine, just around the web.

Usually false rumours die down within a few days but this has run for weeks now, which indicates it usually has some truth.

If there is any substance to this it must be down to the fact QPR are likely to be very busy in the transfer window and he will then be surplus to requirements. If they are keen to offload him Watford would be the obvious choice but he would appeal to a lot of Championship clubs possibly on a perm deal in which case what would QPR ask for him irrespective of wages - also if that was the case Tommy would have to weigh up joining say a West Ham, Southampton and then being in the same boat if they got promoted ie not in their long term plans. If we could offer him a longer deal, either now or at the end of the season that could seal it.....hopefully!!

Agreed, i feel players around the 32 mark need more security with contracts then younger players. Also the added fact that he will be starting games and not ending his career early, he could easily drop down a couple of leagues if he's not careful. I thought that Nosworthy would attract attention from higher level clubs, but I think the long contract and playing every game clinched the deal. I hope that Tommy will look at his situation from a similar point of view and come home again

I think this its all very unlikely, he could walk into any Championship side, and wouldn't put Rodgers past a bid either. However I hope and pray he does the right thing and comes home. I actually think this would be the right move for his career - there is no other club where he could come in and instantly be the team's most important player and an absolute fans favourite.

At the end of the day, when his career is over, he will always be remembered as a Watford player, so it would be great if he could be remembered as one of the truly great Watford legends.

In a dream world he would bring Heidar with him - would love to see the pair of them up front. **** it, bring ****tu too. (Not Lee Cook though, he can just **** off.)

They say never go back, but QPR midfielder Tommy Smith obviously is not a believer of that philosophy.

He is rumoured to be planning on jumping ship at QPR and moving back to his boyhood club Watford, for whom he has had two lengthy successful spells with previously.

Smith has allegedly failed to impress new QPR manager Mark Hughes is various training regimes and has been told to find a new club, preferably permanently, but more likely on a loan move for the time being.

The fans’ favourite at Vicarage Road has reportedly set his heart on moving back to north-London in order to help Watford clamber away from the relegation trouble in the Championship.

The only sticking point in the transfer would be whether Watford could afford the players’ wages, which are rumoured to be around the £10,000 per week mark.

This is unlikely, but sources close to the player have revealed that he could be willing to help Watford out with the deal, by paying half of the required wages himself. This would leave Watford in a position to make the deal a finically applicable one.

Smith has previously had two successful spells at the club which gave him his chance as a youngster, playing nearly 200 games for the Hornets in periods between 1997-2003 and 2006-2009.

In between his two spells at Watford he had played for both Sunderland and Derby County.

He signed for QPR for £1.5m from Portsmouth in 2011 and played a huge part in Rangers’ promotion season which saw them run away with the Championship. He is remembered by the fans as the man who secured promotion at, ironically Vicarage Road, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 victory that, FA investigations apart, secured the victory that guaranteed the club’s promotion back to the Premier League after a 15-year hiatus.

He always said that he would love to return and it would be fantastic if he did. i think if we offered him a slightly longer contract that would do it. At the Bradford game overheard someone saying the reason that Eustace stayed with us was because he knows he can stay in the long term and do his coaching badges with the club, possibly with a job later on.
