We have to be realistic. No harm in trying for the real big ticket players but realistically anyone who can join a top 4 or an established side like spuds, Everton, Liverpool etc will join them ahead of us. Which means if we want to splash the cash we can only buy a promising young player who is so raw that he's not ready for those teams, (a Mings), a players who's not quite good enough for the top 8 (a Huddlestone), or a player who joined one of the elite with a good track record but it didn't quite work out. These 2 fall into the latter, and given who we are, I think they represent an excellent deal if we can get them. Still to peak, plenty to prove, and a determination to show Spuds what they're missing. Excellent business.
£10m in the going price for Ross McCormack, or Tyrone Mings. The deal you are looking for doesn't exist
Clearly £10 million in England gets you next to nothing but my point is why pay a Premier League premium for two players who haven't made an impact in that league? If we can't afford successful PL experienced players then so be it, let's look abroad. Thanks to the people who have actually responded to the question and it seems like the optimism is mainly based on their performances in Ligue 1 (although I'm still not sure if people have actually ever seen them play or just read newspaper transfer reports). Let's hope they can recapture some of that form in the tougher league that is the Premier League. Capoue confirmed now, time to put aside my reservations over the fee and say welcome Etienne, hope you ram it down the Spurs' fans throats...
I really hope you're right. A Spurs season-ticket holder told me he'd be delighted to see the back of the pair of them. However, Spurs do have a talent for wrecking midfielders.
Capoue looks to have been the more promising talent when in France but the majority of Spurs fans are seemingly in favour of keeping Stambouli. I think both could prove to be good acquisitions.
My mate (Spuds fan) always rated Capoue but he never got much game time to get used to the Premier League. He did say Stambouli wasn't much cop...but that's because he hardly saw him play.
I'm sure someone else has covered this, but weren't the reports that we were going to get both for 10m. From what I've read, Capoue has cost 9 mil in total. Does that mean we're not getting Stambouli and we might be going for Guediora instead?
Spurs is a graveyard for talent, always has been Neither EC or BS have been given enough time on the pitch to be labelled either a flop or a success
Defensive midfielder Capoue started out at Toulouse and played 174 times for them, scoring 13 goals in Ligue 1. He was named in the French league's team of the year in 2012, alongside Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. He has represented his country at Under-18, 19, 21 and full international levels. Those are the stats BBC pulled out. Anyone who makes a team of the year at the age of 22/23 has to be a decent player IMO.
This was the Ligue 1 TOTS he was a part of. Some decent names... Sirigu Debuchy Yanga-mbiwa Nkoulou Bedimo Capoue Mavuba Nene Belhanda Hazard Giroud
It was £10m for Capoue and Stambouli - fees were agreed it was just personal terms. One is now sorted the other still under negotiation. Not sure about Gueds coming, would like to get him but I think we're going after Sarabia on the recommendation of Flores.
Spurs fan here, just wanted to say I hope Capoue does well for you lot. If he rediscovers the form he showed for us in his first few months then the £6M or so you paid for him is a bargain. I remember his debut as a substitute at Palace and he was outstanding, and he continued that form for a little while. I don't know if it was injuries/poor attitude or something else that has prevented him from establishing himself in the side, but I've got no doubt he could do very well for your lot. The only con is potentially his attitude. There were big rumours of a bust up between Pochettino and Capoue (along with a few others) earlier in the season and we never saw Capoue in the side again. I don't think his mentality is what you want if you expect to be fighting a relegation battle but that remains to be seen. As for what you're getting, he's very much a traditional defensive midfielder. Decent range of passing but really his strength lies in intercepting and winning the ball.
Seem's there's an interview on Hornets Player? Could someone with HP please watch it and give us the lowdown and also confirm that he's signed on the dotted line, heard of Watford, hasn't been in Germany whilst negotiations took place, and that he's actually arrived at training?
Whats with all these Spuds fans turning up and commenting. Anyway I wish them the best of luck next season apart from when we play them ofcourse three exclamation marks And also hoping they wind their necks in and jog on a bit and that their players could do a good job for us Cheers!!! #premierleaguefrinds #topbanties
And to add to that, can they please tell Lloris not to shoot against us? Robinson was lethal at White Hart lane last time :doom:
Usual wasted interview questions.. not a single 'whats your favourite cheese' or 'what do you think of the Greek crisis' that could add real value to this forum. Pleased to be here check. Spoke to Gomes check. Looking forward to a good season check... yawn.
I'll watch it when I'm home from work but if they haven't asked him about whether Lloyd should get a new contract or not then I want my HP refunded.
I like the sound of Stambouli, because it sounds like something Tony Soprano would call you as an insult.
