Both Capoue and Stambouli have the potential to be top 10 club material if given the opportunity to play and shine. Both very good players who have had their time wasted at Tottenham, as is the case with most players they sign.

Abdi, Capoue & Stambouli = better and more well balanced midfield than the majority of bottom half teams in the league.

Best example of a trademark Tottenham signing - Falque. Completely failed to recognise his potential, never game him a minute. Incredible oversight.

Even so, he was one of Hull's better players last year. Hull went down because of having no goals and poor tactics from Bruce, so the link between Spurs players and relegation is a very tenuous one.

Huddlestone was lazy and ****e last year. But yes, the link is very tenuous, and Capoue is a different kettle of fish to Livermore.

Would both improve our squad, but isn't 2 DMs a bit excessive? Not that it's my place to question such judgement by the club.

Not if we're playing with a double pivot. Those two plus Watson & Tozser. Does make you question where Gueds would fit in though :(

A move patented by Jose Holebas when he found out who we actually are.

I like it. Solid, yet adaptable. Could hold coffee, magazines or a lamp. The Premiership will not know what's hit it with our table formation.

A double pivot consists of 2 players playing in front of the defence. So in a 4-2-3-1, the 2 would be a double pivot.

Simple and stylish, yet not over the top. Can fit in any situation - a garage or a penthouse.

Agreed. If this double deal does come off we will have signed a keeper, a CD, a full back (hopefully) and two defensive midfielders in this 'window'. A bit lopsided so far then.

Presumably some of the big signings that Quique's referring to will be at the other end of the pitch. An attacking midfielder (possibly Guedioura (although he's an all rounder) but maybe another one too)) and a winger at least and possibly another striker.

Presumably the Perotti deal isn't entirely dead in the water yet either despite us not having heard anything new for a bit. He's not signed for anyone else yet (has he?).

Perotti hasn't been confirmed yet by anyone afaik. I personally think we need an attacking mid (Sarabia please.) and a winger or 2.

If you fitted a glass top inlay you could sell it to Noddy Holder as a souvenir reminder of his scatting days

Thanks for the explanation Reids but do you know why it's a "double pivot" though? Is it just a pretentious way of saying a team plays with two defensive midfielders or is it more nuanced than that?

I'm sure Stambouli is leaving the Spurs bench to come and sit on ours.

I think the idea of it is that, generally, whichever one of the two wins the ball gives it to the second pivot to move the ball forward to the offensive players. It's basically a more organised way of recycling possession and getting the ball forward quickly, which I think is in line with what QSF wants to do.

Happy to be corrected by one of the forums tactical wizards though!

Capoue will prove the Spurs doubters wrong(hopefully!).

I'd rather we didn't sign Stambouli as he sounds like another Perotti, in the sense that he's not too keen on coming here. Also didn't we have an offer accepted for Stambouli a few weeks ago?

I'd rather we had Capoue and Guedioura as a central two.

Why do people call it a double pivot? Two holding midfielders are what they really are. It's not as if the whole team hinges on them.

Because they take it in turns to go forward. One goes foward, the other sits (and vice versa).

Also allows the FBs to attack more readily, knowing he has a DM on his flank to cover his runs.
