I don't think Rajovic is that bad outside the box, he can't press which is an issue but his passing seems to be improving. He received a pass in the second half yesterday turned and played a good ball to Martin's in space. When he first joined he more often than not would have needed an extra touch to then play the ball. He's far from perfect but knows where the goal is and causes problems in the box. Would love to see him with Bayo up top in a two to see how that would actually work.

We already did that at home to Boro and it was our worst performance of the season.

Rajovic is a player, we as fans, have to be patient with. He's come from the Swedish second tier and very quickly has been elevated to the Championship, which is probably the most competitive/high quality second tier in the world, and he's struggling with the speed of it all.

He's a split second behind everyone else. His touch, speed of thought, movement, aerial challenging etc, is all just a little off. It's because he's playing at a level beyond his current ability as he wants a little more time when he gets the ball than he's allowed to have.

This is something he's going to have to sharpen up at, and that's down to himself to do that. Maybe he'll adapt or maybe he won't, only time will tell. However, he's got something no other player in our squad has. A quality to take chances when they are presented to him. He's a player who finds where the easy chances are. That is a skill. I'm going to have to go a long way back before thinking of a player who used to score easy goals regularly.....and that's Kevin Phillips. Now, I'm not saying Rajovic is ever going to be as prolific as Phillips, but he seems to have that knack of being in the right place for an easy finish......and he is able to take those chances. He's not flustered or overly excited, as ALL our other players are. He's calm in the moment and knows where to put the ball.

So, even though the rest of his game is pretty much Sunday League level, that ability to pinch goals is vital. He's scored 4 already in just 560 minutes of playing time. A goal every 1.5 matches, which is a very decent strike rate. He's a player we need to back and accept as I've seen enough to know he will score goals....and maybe the rest of his game will improve over time too.

"Minutes can also be very misleading. He might be a super sub, coming on in the final minutes against tired defenders scoring the odd goal here and there, giving him a brilliant minutes to goals ratio."

As long as they're right on his bonce, otherwise he's not competitive really.

I’ve sussed it, if you could put Bayo’s work outside the box together with Rajovic’s play inside it we might have a decent centre forward!

We need to provide a steady stream of crosses for Rajovic and he will score some goals, as we saw for the equaliser. When Martins came on I was intrigued to see him play on the right with Sema on the left, but they soon swapped over in the ‘inverted winger’ positions. That will never provide the crosses Rajovic needs. I’d also like to see him paired with Healy, rather than Bayo, for a run of games.

I don’t think it was. It’s either made up or something I probably wrote about Andre Gray 5 years ago. Either way, no doubt it was an attempted dig as always. It never ceases to amaze me when certain posters act like that. Always on the look out to trip you up and will research years back to find something. It’s bizarre. Life’s way too short.

The new chap has the turning circle of a tanker but has the asset of being to hang in the air.
If crosses come in at a proper height rather than along the ground then think he will score a few .
He has not had a proper English pre season , expect him to get better as time goes on.
About time we had someone decent in the air.

He's bunk, better play Bayo or Healey, but at least he bags one or two. Wait make the 4 now, right?

Bayo is hard worker and makes things happen, chases down balls and more or less makes chances through his own work rate. Healy I am still torn on, he looks alright in flashes but still to early to really evaluate. Raj (for me anyway) is an impact sub sort of player. If we're losing or going into the last ten or so drawing, bung him on and see what he can do. For 90+mins I do not think he can (as of yet) last the distance. Hence why we make a striker sub each game. Bayo has more chance of scoring during the initial 90mins due to the fact his ability to run and make a chance is much higher.

People like you make this forum a sad place. Always looking for opportunities to start silly fights out of nowhere. I have no axe to grind with you or anyone else on this forum. Not sure what drives people like you to act this way, but it bores the pants off absolutely everyone.

I'm not starting a silly fight, just simply pointing out that you contradict yourself all the time.

    The point has been made.

Teide 1 in Post 178 in the Wall matchday thread made a very good point about Ross Jenkins in comparison to Raj; he was utterly butterly shyte for so many games. But he kept getting games, and goals, and became a legend.

I'm not saying by any stretch of imagination that Raj will follow in his revered footsteps, but FFS the bloke's got 4 goals!!!

So maybe, just maybe, let's treat him as though he's the next 'RJ',

He didn't spend a single second celebrating his goal yesterday; he grabbed the ball from the back of the net and raced to the halfway line with it.

    He'll do for me...

So what? I’m probably the most hated poster on this forum, so you pointing things out about me is not a revelation to anyone. I’m a **** but I’m ok with that. It is sad that you (and others) store up conversations from months ago and try to use it against someone at a later date. How do you get the energy and motivation to act like that? What do you get out of it?

Not sure where you’ve got the idea that you’re hated on here. Perhaps a select few may chose to battle whatever you post, but I for one appreciate that you share your thoughts on here. I may not agree with all of them, but nonetheless, keep ‘em coming.

It would be tremendously boring if we all agreed with each other.

My concern is that whilst he may score goals, they don’t seem to be “winning” goals.. I fear that whenever he plays, his ineffectual press is actually the root cause of us conceding.

The style that VI wants us to play is designed to defend from the front, and Rajovic does not do that.

At least visually Bayo does it better but his finishing is rather lame.

Rajovic's two goals at Coventry earned us a point and could have earned us more if not for shoddy defending, his brilliant header vs Brum earned us the win, and Saturday he earned us a point, seems a strange criticism of him

  27. CaveManHornet

    CaveManHornet Reservist

Fair enough, I completely forgot Rajovic scored the first against Birmingham, so I hold my hands up to that. And Coventry was his stand out performance across the 11 games he’s played, so no real criticism of him on that performance either.

My underlying point though is that in general our shoddy defending is exacerbated when our striker is not putting the opposition under pressure from the front. I believe that the Millwall game highlighted this when Rajovic came on as a sub, alongside Louza and Ince. We went from being in control of the game, and dominating the Millwall end of the pitch, to being pegged back in our own half for a good 15 minute spell.

We all know that our defence can pull a wobbly at any moment, so in a division like the one we’re in, we need to have that man up front who can lead the charge, defend from the front and score winning goals.

Don’t get me wrong, I really want Rajovic to succeed here, I just think he needs to be more of a nuisance to the opposition defence.

Fair, to back up your point it should be said that his second goal at Cov came from Bayo pressing them, yet I don't think we'll see them together often

I wouldn’t say you’re hated on here at all, I think it’s simply that for whatever reason your posts seem to be like catnip for the two resident obsessive stalkers on here.

My advice would be to block them, then every now and again you can have a little chuckle to yourself over the fact they’ll be spending multiple hours, if not days, of their already very sad little lives writing spiteful replies to your posts that you’ll never even read.

I don't think you're hated, and the forum would be a worse (and more boring) place without you, that's for sure. Whether everyone agrees with you or not, you're certainly passionate about whatever your view may be this week(;)), which certainly brings value, and makes for an interesting read.

The hanging in the air thing is interesting.

A player will ascend with upward velocity in a leap and then come down as gravitational force overcomes the upward momentum. Momentarily the player is stationary and appears to hang in the air.

However, I can’t think of any mechanism that would prolong this other than increasing upward momentum, say by flapping arms like wings, leaning on an opponent or having a corresponding forward momentum that continues the movement.

Nevertheless the observer in the Stands perceives it as the player hangs.

My guess is that it’s combinations of leaning on opponents and forward motion, but, most importantly good timing. Finally a player, good at headers, could very slightly lower the head and then lift it to head the ball, giving the impression that they continued to rise or not fall.

    Sorry, carry on.

Wait, a minute. Are you saying that strikers leave the ground as a result of leaping ? Then it's gravity that brings them back down to earth ? :).
My guess is it's a question of timing. Some players are still rising as they head the ball while others seem to have better anticipation and time their leap to arrive at the peak of their jump just as the ball arrives, so it appears that they are hanging there momentarily waiting for the ball to arrive.

I spoke to somebody at the game Saturday who said this very thing. Manga said his expertise was around players in the £3-£5m mark, was told we didn't have that money and that they very unimpressed with this signing and that was the end for Manga. Another note was that apparently on Rajovic's first day of training players laughing at how bad he was!

To hear that the other players were laughing at how bad he is quite ironic - perhaps they should have reflected on their own performances before he joined!
