He does seem to have a similar running style at least.

 

At least we'll get Akinfenwa returning home in return to actually play the Troy Deeney role to some effect

 

From his highlights reel , it’s all easy tap ins.

We need the Columbian Ivan Toney not the Columbian Andre Gray.

 

Even if it doesn’t happen, it’s great to be linked with these international superstars again.

Defending is worse than anything we are likely to come up against, but none of our centre forwards are anywhere near capable of scoring a goal like that.

 

Well seeing as Toney's been a bit of a penalty merchant in the run-in, maybe that's an accurate description of him! The Colombian Andre Gray of course would run around a bit but shank those shots straight at the keeper!

 

Welcome back to the forum BTW! Apparently this lad is highly thought of, though I am naturally sceptical of South Americans who aren't in Europe by the age of 25, surely if he were that good someone would have taken the plunge on him?

(I know he had a brief spell in Spain, but you get my point)

I wonder if the move to europe just came too early. Atletico is an especially tough gig as well - simeone is an wonderful coach but he has also totally failed to get a tune out of a good number of talented players.

 

Reminds me, perhaps we should recall him from his loan.

 

I suppose as well, we don't need him to be world class or anything, a solid 10-15 goals next season would do us fine to keep us up/fire us back up or sell on for a decent fee. Would he be up to that though?

 

He didn't get any playing time at Atletico, or much at Villareal when he went on loan there, but his scoring rate was actually decent the few times he was used by Villareal - 2 goals in 346 La Liga minutes, and 2 goals in 385 Europa League minutes. He was still 21 at the time, which is young for a striker.

Sounds a bit similar to Andre Gray in respect of having been a super sub goal poacher before!

If his link-up play is not too shabby and he continues to be a poacher in the PL then maybe it'd just about be enough.

 

He shows good movement in that clip for a CF. He's clearly decent enough technically, but that whole sequence of play would need to be done at a quicker tempo to be pulled off in the PL.

Yeah - no way you are getting away with it in the PL.

I just thought it was handy to show he isn't just a poacher as the highlights reels seem to make him out to be, because I don't think you can afford to run a player like that in the modern game at this level.

 

To me, most of the time it looks like shocking defending instead of great movement.

 

I'm hoping rumours like that are just an echo of our recruitment team putting out feelings based on two scenarios (promotion or staying down).

 

I really just posted that silly rumour for a larf. I can't imagine we're still interested in him, in fact I'd be surprised if we ever were. He's barely Championship quality, let alone Prem.

In other words, his agent is putting his name out there and "linking him" to every club he can find. The bloke is 25 and 5' 9". He's not an unknown. He could do a job for us, but I highly doubt that those big clubs are in for him.

 

So you don’t think there’s much chance of a late growth spurt then?

 

He was maybe an option if we never went up. Would be my guess.
