That's totally untrue....they had a very tidy firm and, as with many clubs, seem to be on the rise again. Wolverhampton is not a place to go mouthing it off dressed in battle gear unless you know what you are doing As I said before, let's just concentrate on wishing the injured guy a full and speedy recovery
The worst part is trying to explain to a 4 year old why an adult would try and kill another at a football match when you cant comprehend it yourself.
We were a minute behind all this , we saw the chap on the floor , and it looked bad , not a slap , but bad , apparently was attacked whilst looking the other way by some wolves `yoof` who were waiting , mid 40`s , probably got a wife and kids waiting for him , makes you think to be honest , dont matter how `handy` you are or think you can look after yourself , places like Wolves will never change , they will attack anyone they feel is at all vulnerable , they always have the miserable ****ing ******s
It happened half a mile from the stadium. People moan about the police when they forcibly escort away fans from station to stadium and back again but that's probably the only way to guarantee something like this doesn't happen.
There is a groundswell of young, disaffected white, working class males. Under qualified and squeezed out of the employment market by east-europeans and priced out of higher education. The vitriol spurred on by EDL (or equivalent) bigotry, leeching on the back of the ISIL problem; the conditions are set for the next generation of angry young men. Potentially worrying times - would be interested if anybody is from a criminology/policing/sociology background to hear your professional opinions on this?
Must of been just behind you. There was a guy on the phone to the emergency services as I walked by, plenty of people aiding the guy on the floor(both sets of fans). Something I didn't really want to see, let alone my 7 year old son. Really hope the vile scum get caught and the fellow Orn pulls through.
Police have never been present around there afterwards, and from experience - They don't seem to give a rats arse either. Thoughts to the guy and his family.
Latest reports are that this was an innocent bystander...really sad to hear that as nothing like this should happen Innocent question to Layton and uhorns - why were you there as the ring road would take you to the station? Did the police point people that way?
Poor poor guy. Goes out for a Saturday afternoon to follow his team away from home and this happens. Thoughts are with him, his family and friends this evening. Sincerely hope the cowardly piece of s*** responsible gets caught or turns himself in, and is subsequently banged up for a long time. No time or place in society for people like that.
Like others have said, disgusting. Feel quite lucky now, like I said earlier had two girls in headscarves with me and got no trouble. Hope he pulls through, definitely an attempted murder case at this rate.
Been named on twitter as Nick Cruwys from Hemel. Thoughts are with him, his family & his friends who witnessed what happened. Really hoping he pulls through.
After the Fulham match I was waiting for some people so stood outside the Red Lion next to a group of Police. Some mouthy Fulham fans came out of the away end and as they walked past us the head Police geezer told 3 others to "follow that group as far as Moons". Sensible policing and knowing where the trouble spots are likely. You'd think that the route to the station, and with Wolves past history that we all know about, would mean something like common sense could be applied as it was at Watford on Tuesday.
This could have been any of us. They have to catch these monsters. Clockwork Orange is now reality in many areas. West Mids police and Wolves F.C have a lot of questions to answer. Hindsight is irrelevant here, we all know of the problems there in the past.
Before the game we'd been in the Bluebrick pub which is behind the station, so all I done was walk back to the station the same route as I'd got to the ground plus it was a lot less busy that way. No police anywhere to be seen!!
Not in my opinion. The police will be doing their best, but they cant be expected to follow every group of Watford fans, and every group of Wolves fans, down every street for a mile around the ground. Just a few weeks ago people were saying how they hate been escorted everywhere by the the police "like animals". The police will try and improve, but the only questions that should be asked are of the perpetrators.
Think you're looking at it the wrong way. Fair play to the Wolves fan for setting it up and for his £20 donation. This money could be massively helpful for Nick to pay for any treatments, medicine or possibly unpaid time off work. And if, god forbid, the worst happens, the money would be a massive help for his family.
surely with the prevalence of phone/cameras there's a good chance somebody has caught something on film?
I walked the same way and must have passed by the same time as Layton and co. we were in the Great Western pub and all the Wolves fans in there were well decent. I've spoken the West Midlands police myself this afternoon as we observed some youths running through us before we turned the corner into Littles Lane, and two walking back to the scene from the underpass, which I thought very odd - even checked to see if the had swollen hands - given the police all the info I could. If anyone saw anything, however insignificant, please speak to them. The police say it is Wolves who set how many police are required - blame, if any lies with them.
There were no police around after the match. Don't take what you see at Vicarage Road every home game as the norm. For some reason Herts Police seem to police every match. That just doesn't happen in the rest of the country.
Incident took place at major interchnage on way to station, by that ridiculous traffic light sytem. After Watford matches there are always police at places like this. I fear that Wolves like many other clubs scrimp on crowd control.
I walked very close to that street on way to station. I must have got there just before it happened as I saw nothing and was unaware of anything having occured. Based on my experience of trips to Wolves I never wear colours or allow anyone else to. I would consider all games at Wolves to have a degree of risk. Watford fans yesterday did not get the same level of security that is afforded to fans of teams such as Cardiff, Forest, Sheff Wed etc as we are considered a low risk club. It could be any one of us, including people I love in that hospital and that is why I believe we have been short changed by the authorities. I know they have limited and stretched resources but in my opinion they screwed up big time.
The police aren't there to act as security for the away fans at games like those. They're there to prevent disorder. That's what the risk assessments are built around. There was little-to-no chance of disorder (large scale fights between opposing fans) yesterday so the end of the game was not policed. I suspect the police around the city pre-match were at the start of a shift which later took them to Birmingham and the vicinity of Villa Park and they wouldn't have ordinarily been there at all.
