Mazzarri sacked

  1. This could be my post of the season. The irony of a knicker wetter accusing the people who said FFS calm down (proved right with points to spare) is incredible.

People, HB to the fore, have been knicker wetting since November. We made it over the line easily despite crippling injuries and a coach with serious issues.

Ross. Go change your panties mate.

It's comments like calling people "knicker wetting" because they have a different perspective to you, which makes you sound absolutely pathetic.

What the hell are you on about ? Ive been flying the "Dont Panic" flag the whole time, even posting a lengthy piece how in two whole seasons, we ve spent just two just weeks in the bottom three and have never been in a relegation battle at any point.

Not only is this forum full of knicker wetters but increasingly full of pedantic , humourless and argumentative bores.

  4. Perhaps you'd like to reword the post I replied to then so it communicates what you intended it to then.

Maybe you can add to your list the witty trolls who express no opinion but have have an awful lot to say about it. Just as big a problem as the rest of us, like GD throwing stones with a fence post up his backzide.

Also shocked this has been a terrible season and Walter had to go, along with some of the players as well.

It is the head coach who has to take the blame for a lot of this season his appointment of back room staff who clearly had little idea of what they were doing and not improving players

Lack of fitness all season, I remember Deeney starting the season a stone over weight, also remember first 8/9 games the team only lasting an hour before lack of fitness meant everyone defended deep allowing the opposition all the space they wanted

Amrabat constantly running into trouble and losing the ball, never looking up, poor passing, no assists, very poor crosses, always running with the ball never give n go

Capou and lack of effort, jogging around the pitch, never closing down, moving out of way to avoid contact, never getting goal side of opponent, tackling from side or behind, so many yellows for this

Deeney for his poor season again, not fit, lack of movement, not moving defenders out of position and creating space, not showing correct leadership qualities required and encouragement to fellow players, not leading by example, this does not mean lack of effort but it has to be channeled in the right way other than milking the crowd, take away the pens and as a striker it is a poor return again.

Britos reads the game well alas his legs are going.

Niang and his lack of motivation

Holebas, yellow cards a disgrace, attitude appalling, defending not good enough, leaves his man all the freedom he needs, first rule of defending get goal side slow the man down, good going forward but not enough and needs to go

Lack of motivation from Walter, poor reading of a game, poor tactics and reluctant to change, generally not effective subs or game changing, time to get a sub on due to not being ready, no improvement to virtually any player this season, treatment of Doucourie at the start, Success and Ben watson.

Coaching or lack of, how can we still be making the same mistakes all season, no movement off the ball, get goal-side, zonal marking, lack of anything last third, no pace, absolutely no team motivation, how many times have the team showed any urgency for the start of the second half.

It is for these reasons he had to go we have been going backwards all season, the results didn't help but not the whole story, the absolute minimum i want to see from my team is to be competitive in every match, to have a game plan and a back up, to be fit, to learn from mistakes, to improve slowly throughout the season, get all these right and results will follow.

Anyone else think this could be too big an upheaval needed in too short a time. When look at team over half needs upgrading plus we need a manager 1st so he can at least have a say.

I think the Pozzos will need their network more than ever and may be some short term high quality loans required. Having said that guessing we are not in Chelsea's good books after Kenedy

I have to agree with you here.

It's like we are a newly promoted side. A newly promoted side needs to improve very quickly in a short time frame, especially the playoff winners. It's a tough task, but not one that should be beyond us.

But if I was an outsider, looking at Watford, I'd say we would be the most likely to get relegated next season from the clubs that are already in the league. There has to be a massive turnaround in every area.

Did you realise there's only 82 days until we kick off next season? It's an incredibly short space of time to correct so much. But if anyone can do it, then I have total faith in the board being able to sort it out.

Your obsession with me is worrying, WT.

I'm not on my high horse at all. For the record I felt some of the abuse aimed at Walter (that sign is the perfect example yesterday) was a bit much.

I can't help wondering what Gino & Co would have done if we'd picked up a couple of extra wins & a draw, which isn't a lot over the course of the season. Due to the compressed nature of the middle of the table this season, that would have meant we'd have finished above Southampton in 8th place. Would Mazza have still got his marching orders if we had?

This is going to be a little devil's advocate-style (although I'm tempted to agree with this as well), but it could arguably be a good thing that we've finished so low. The be all and end all of it is that there really isn't much in terms of points between us and 8th place Southampton. It's the exact same number of points that divides 8th from 17th as the number of points that divides 17th from 18th. I'm not necessarily saying that Gina would be massively complacent if we finished 12th for example, but they would certainly be more complacent than they are now and would be more inclined to believe that there are elements of our team which are fine (which we can now see is not the case).

There is a lot to be done, but us finishing the season this way will mean that Gino will definitely be going all out to correct these things

yes....Walt did not get on with some of the the players regardless of our final league position. It was decided he should go

There is very little difference between any of the teams outside of the top 7. Every team outside the top 7 finished with negative goal difference which says it all really.

I know Sunderland came bottom but they didnt look a whole lot worse than any of the other lower teams. Hull obviously came good and Boro were probably the only poor team in the league just because they presented so little a goal threat.

Its a fair point, but the problem is attracting players in the summer to a team who will be 3 rd favourites to be relegated.

In that sense we are in a worse position than last summer. Then we had the image of a team on the up with a respected new manager ( ahem) and managed to attract someone like Peryera. We are going to struggle to sign another player of Peryeras stature this summer.

I think he would still have gone, but the condemnation from the media would have been a lot louder.

There were a lot of things that were not right. They were all predictable, but for some reason overlooked. I do not think the appointment of Mazzarri was a particularly intelligent appointment, but you have to trust the people that make these appointments.

I get the feeling Luke Downing had very little time for him.

There are always factors that go into a key appointment like the head coach. I think probably too much was emphasis was given to his CV, which of course is important, but the language barrier, the lack of knowledge of managing in England, the personality, was probably given less weight when making the decision.

The Pozzo's like this guy for a while, and wanted him at any cost, regardless whether he was the right fit or not.

No one is perfect, not even Gino. He got that one wrong, and I hope lessons have been learnt. I'm sure they have been.

SD hinted on the qualities a new head coach would have to have, and it's clear, it's someone who will relate to the fans and represent the ideals of the club. Marco Silva would be a perfect fit, but he would also need to have some sort of pedigree.

With this in mind, Wally was always going to go, especially with the downward trajectory the team was showing.

I still think a lot of the anti-Walter feeling is way over the top but putting two goalkeepers on the bench yesterday was completely bonkers.

I could be wrong but I suspect Wally gave Gilmartin a final spot on the bench as a "thank you & goodbye" present as he's probably leaving. Not that that justifies it, but it would at least makes some kind of sense.

Because Gilmartin's khak probably. He might have been there as a sentimental "goodbye", but you wouldn't want to actually use him

Gilmartin was on the bench as he offered to be a defender just in case he was needed!

The one bit of credit you can give walter is that by throwing the millwall game the players got the points in the next 2 to stay up. Mourinho getting a lot of praise for a similar thing for Man Utd in the papers this morning.

Slightly disappointed Walter didn't go the whole hog and bring him on up front ahead of Deeney. Could've had scenes like this:
