I would have understood more if it had been 15-20m for Sarr or JP to Udinese. Or 40m for Sema. But this, this makes no sense.

Utterly bizarre and unique to our barmpot family.

No, No. A couple of members on here state that we not in financial trouble and we have plenty of money.
This deal smells bad. It just a loan and the Pozzo family have found a way to make the loan work.
I would say that this is a warning shot regarding our financial wellbeing.
We were in a lifeboat earlier, now we are in the water and sharks are smelling blood.

Who has stated we are not in financial trouble and have plenty of money? I assume you can name them or point us to posts where that was explicitly said?

Or are you making stuff up again?

That issue being an unexpected inability to sell Sarr, possibly?

You mean the player we didn’t need to sell according to (your mate) the CEO?

Whatever the reality, nobody can square Duxbury's statements with what is happening. That much is clear.

But who are any of us to wave it through happily or oppose it?

We are but supporters. We aren’t board members. We don’t get a vote on it

Whether you like it or not, or I like it or not, or anybody else on the forum likes it or not doesn’t really matter. It fills a few pages here and it probably gives a little more fuel to both those who think we are well run and those who think we aren’t

But it’s all academic really. The important thing is Kamara stays this season and there’s some more money in the coffers, whatever use that might be.

Thanks for the back-handed compliment too :)

Yep. This is my issue with it mainly.

The actual truth of this situation could be a good thing (although many of us fear not). But the continual issue is Duxbury continually chasing his tail about the last set of embellishments he gave and trying to justify them, rather than just admit he is perennially caught in his own contradictions. So even if this is a good thing, it automatically looks bad because of him not being able to tell the truth in the first place.

No one asked for root and branch admittance of just how much financial strife we may be in - we’d like it, but the sensible among us know that it would weaken bargaining positions etc. But there’s no reason he couldn’t have said ‘look, the financial implications of relegation are stark and without question - we will do everything we can to compete at the top level but tough calls may have to happen this summer that fans might initially have to trust us on’…

…but ‘We’re alright Jack, finances are great, no need to sell anyone, backing Edwards to the hilt’ was foolish. True, many people didn’t entirely buy it - but the problem is that he doesn’t realise people won’t buy it…so just tell the truth.

One pot or two, them to us or us to them, it’s all irrelevant. Whichever way you look at it, you can’t or shouldn’t see past how downright iffy this all
    is.

    Surely you see that!?

We are fans of the football club who will be here long after the owners move on.

True we don’t hold any tangible power. But does that mean we should accept literally everything they do without question? You got very frustrated last season over the sacking of Xisco and appointment of Hodgson - why? You had no power to change it and had no say? So why comment or highlight your anger?

    You see my point?

(And I meant the compliment - I know for a fact that you’re better than just dismissing peoples concerns)

@Burnsy I wasn’t dismissing people’s concerns. My comment was a light-hearted one, a bit of satire, joking that for some people anything that comes out of the club must spell trouble. If they were offered a date with Miss World, they’d complain it wasn’t Miss Universe lol

We all post as individuals. Our usernames appear by our posts. That means that everybody’s posts are unique opinions to them. I’ve not told anybody they’re wrong or they should change their opinions.

If people want to get outraged about something that may or not be dodgy, fair play to them. As an outsider, I don’t know enough about the fine print to know if it’s a matter of very smart business or very dodgy and worrying.

I’m certainly not going to get into long arguments about it when we are all in the dark and people are free to react to it as they wish. I’m more concerned with beating MK Dons tonight.

I know you like your long debates with other posters and I admire you for how you doggedly defend your point of view, as of you’re in a court of law, and I’m sorry you feel stressed about this latest news. You’re one of my favourites on here, as you know.

Obviously I’d far prefer us to be well run and straight and in good financial health and led by people who are always truthful. I suspect we aren’t and as a fan of 40 years that saddens me. But I’m not to explode with anger over something I can’t control.

The sacking of Xisco and the appointment of Hodgson affected my match day experience, so it was more relevant to me, hence commenting about it. From what I can see, today’s news doesn’t. The player stays with us. I will still enjoy him. I’m sure you will tell me that if the club goes under, that will affect all our match day experiences and that’s true. But I’m not sure receiving £16 million today makes that more likely.

Sorry Malts, but these two statements are not consistent, and these kind of dualisms in your recent posts are why Burnsy and others have reacted to them. You can't just chuck out these clear implications, and then jump back insisting you never question anyone or anything they say when it's picked up on.

Given the recent FFP scrutiny around inflated naming rites/sponsorship deals etc. we’re gonna end up getting investigated over deals like this

Deservedly so as well, we’d all be rightly fuming if another team in this league was pulling stuff like this

Couple this most recent example with the constant Bayat dodginess over a number of years and we’re heading for a ‘chickens coming home to roost’ moment in the not too distant future

Hey! I see your point but I don’t think I’ve directly criticised anybody’s points here

I’m not jumping back either. It’s not for me to tell another person they’re wrong just because they see a situation differently from me

I merely made a general point, light-heartedly too (and only I know my mood when I wrote it) that if you’re anti the club’s owner/board, then today’s news will add fuel to that and vice versa

Personally I can’t the point in anybody getting too worked up either way, especially as we don’t know all the facts, but I respect that people have time to fill

Possibly. Did he say that? I don’t know. Doesn’t alter my statement, though.

Fair, I just don't think people are getting 'too worked up' about it - pretty much everyone can recognise that in the immediate sense it will have positive ramifications for us, but also that it is so outlandish as to provide several further possible conclusions to be drawn and to shed further light on certain statements made and beliefs held about the situation the club finds itself in.

Those things are not mutually exclusive, and people here are generally capable of assessing the information without being instantly blinded by supposed inherent bias - having done so, it leaves many with concerns in an ongoing sense, particularly when added to all the prior things that have happened that have themselves left concerns.

    Good good

    Enjoy the match tonight everybody.

I’m off to try to sell my season ticket to some random fan for £1,500 on the condition that they then lend it back to me for all our remaining home matches. Not too hopeful though!

Never misread anything I write here as being critical of anybody else on the forum

It’s good so many people do care about everything at our club and want it to be run properly

I think we as supporters have a duty to challenge and analyse the words that come out of the vile Duxbury’s mouth? I agree we can’t do anything about it we can’t just wave through everything he does like you are suggesting.

    Hey Jumb

I haven’t suggested that at all

You’ve pluralised it. We have been discussing one thing. The Kamara transfer

And I haven’t even said don’t challenge that. I was just pointing out we are all challenging it in house, namely on this forum. So while it’s good to vent our feelings to each other here, I was questioning how this actually gives us a voice outside of the forum?

Just came onto this thread to post exactly that. Was thinking about it an hour ago while out on a run and it occurred to me of all the deals we’ve done in recent years, this could well be the one that triggers direct complaints from other chairmen to the EFL. Boasting about it being a ‘significant’ undisclosed fee really is the cherry on top.

Fair enough - I’m sure it doesn’t give us a voice outside but it’s good to vent :). Andrew French says he is going to sit down with Duxbury after the window and review it in light of what was said which will be interesting.

This could be a way of balancing our books. This could be a way of retaining Sarr. this could be done for a totally different reason. This even could be legal.

Personally will await to see what the reasons are. Sell Pedro and sarr with no incomings and looks like it’s needed to balance the books. Keep sarr and maybe it’s needed for a new contract

This is the Watford I’ve come to love. Hated by everyone again. Seeing opposition fans from across the globe taking to Twitter to ridicule us for our transfer dealings. Good to see that the Pozzo’s still own Granada as well.

Am I the only one who actually enjoys our owner’s ruthless love of finding loopholes? It’s his passion and he’s very good at it. We’ve had a couple of raps on the knuckles a few times but generally Pozzo is a master of this stuff.

This seems to be just to bridge a cash flow gap that will enable us to keep Sarr. It’s pretty clever (as long as there isn’t some absolute financial ruin rumbling below the surface).

Didn't Udinese just sell their current left back for 15 mill and then the club that bought him loaned him back to them for next season ?

Didn't Udinese just buy his replacement for £16 mill and then loan him back to the club that sold him for the next season, till they need him ?

Is there any link between this and us keeping Sarr? I keep seeing that being given as the reason but where is the evidence? We need £16m to keep Sarr despite selling Cucho, Dennis and potentially Pedro? If we end up selling Pedro yet still need an additional £16m to keep Sarr, does that not ring huge alarm bells that it’s a much deeper issue??
