If this true good luck to Berghuis at Feyenoord. Quality crosser of the ball and hope he establishes himself in the Dutch national side. Do hope we at least got our money back on him and a future sell on fee of say 10 per cent would not be unreasonable in view of his age. Thought it be much that Feyenoord were claiming poverty despite being back in the Champions League. Don't forget to do the double over Ajax in the coming season.

Very p1ssed off about this...especially if we replace with the likes of Grosicki.

Hopefully we can sign Ghezzall and Carrillo

I am pleased that we look to have avoided Markovic but sad Berghuis looks to be off. Really hope we get Ghezzal and possibly Carillo as well. I would still prefer Grosicki compared to Markovic. Never wanted to compensate Liverpool for their poor decisions. Even now they are making stupid inflated bids in an attempt to set the World Record for getting in a defender. No wonder the rest of European football think we are either cracked or stupid! COYHS

If we keep Amrabat, sign Grosicki and sell Berghuis then people at the club must need their heads examined. Bonkers.

If true, Feyenoord have just done what we did to Derby with Will Hughes. Granted, Berghuis in comparison had very few games with us but I feel that he could have been a great winger for us... In the little time I saw Berghuis play he was far better than Amrabat at crossing the ball and younger too! He may not be great at defending, but it's rare to see the likes of Hazard and Neymar tracking back to defend either. Not necessarily comparing him to them but his role remains the same - to whip in plenty of crosses which should (in theory) land on Deeney's head.

But as it stands, it does look to be confirmed that he is gone.... Come on Gino, get that Ghezzal and Carrillo in ASAP!

I'll only be satisfied with this transfer if they take Amrabat as an add-on item.

Genuinely believed he could be a real asset for us this season. We better sign some quality wingers asap if he's off.

A couple of years ago Hughes was touted as the next Steven Gerrard. I don't really draw the comparison between the two deals really. Sad to see Berghuis go and think he could have done something but in reality he's been shipped out a number of times and performed well once against a despondent Villa destined for relegation. Let's find out the details of the deal before we go overboard. I suspect he has been desperate to go back after last season, even more so given he can play in the CL.

Whilst I'm sure they are good players, I'm finding it hard to get excited about either Carrillo or Ghezzal

According to the most reliable of sources (twitter) they're offering €6.5m and we want €7m.
I believe that's a profit (I had in my mind the fee we paid was €4.5m - can anyone confirm/deny?) but still doesn't sound like much when you consider it would supposedly cost £16m to sign Markovic.

I think Berghuis' low(ish) valuation comes from being a decent European player rather than a good EPL player. He's a good fit for Dutch football, but not English football. He's weak in the tackle, reluctant to track back and seems to have issues with his confidence.

He's probably got more end product than Amrabat, but is not industrious enough in other areas of the pitch.

Go back to Silva's quote after the Wimbledon defeat. "We have to defend from the front". He's just not that sort of player.

Amrabat is an all round better player anyway so not sure what the fuss is about.

An awful lot has been made of that one great cross for Deeney's goal. I don't recall any others.

Never given a proper run in the side. Now we may never know but look at his Dutch highlights from last season.

Relax, It's not like we're selling Roberto Pereyra.

This is Steven Berghuis he's good - may have even turned out to be very good but he isn't Sneijder or Robben.
We can do better and I'm sure we are trying to do so.

At the risk of stating the obvious - I guess it all depends on who his replacement is as to whether or not this is good or bad (assuming it's one from the few candidates we know about). If one or more come in and make an impact, we'll quickly move on from Berghuis. But if the replacement(s) struggle, end up not making the team and are then shipped out on loan somewhere whilst Berghuis is inspiring Feyenoord in the Champions League, then there'll (rightly) be many people wondering how we got it so wrong. All we can do is wait and see.

This will happen. Or this but Berghuis is nothing more than average for them but we'll (myself included) still cry that was a better option than the failed flops we have. We're going to have a whole team of boo boys this year.

Can he hurry up and F off. Don't need this Dutch buffoon blocking Amrabats progression anymore.

I don't think SB has got the right attitude to play for us. We need fully committed players/fighters this season, which is why I think Will Hughes will step up & turn out to be our most influential/valuable signing this summer. He is a high work rate player & am sure will galvanise the team. Move on Berghuis & make sure there is a decent sell on clause so we're covered.

I think we only paid his wages for half a season? We would've got a loan fee for last season and the other time he was loaned out, plus it looks like we will make a profit om the transfer too. Isn't that the Pozzo model down to a T? Buy a player with potential, if he works out great, if he doesn't loan them out until we can sell and make the money back. Ultimately they've made a few million quid out of it. Great business.
