Tbh - we have the best and most intelligent owners around. I doubt very much they felt like spending anything like what they have but they have adjusted with the times. The money has gone crazy - rather than sit on sidelines they have said we either follow suit or will be in championship.

I had conv with Newcastle fan tonight saying they would spend 18m on Gray or anyone. Well if if you want to play you have to pay.

Ellington barely cost us a quarter of that by the time loan fees were taken into account. Derby alone wiped out half the outlay.

I've been cackling at the pure jealousy shown on that forum. Followed by denials of jealousy.

My favourite bit was where one 'fan' suggested another take a walk off a pier when they suggested that they shouldn't hate Gray for his move.

Gray is a very good signing for us and I'm glad he's done in time for Liverpool Saturday.

Wouldn't pay too much attention to Burnley fans who don't rate him now he's gone. I'm sure they had a different opinion when he won Championship Player of the Season in 2016 and ripped defences apart. Burnley forgetting how to play football unless they were hoofing it to Vokes' head most likely had an adverse effect on Gray's ability to play well.

Not saying he doesn't have weaknesses or that he doesn't need to improve in areas, but if we play to his strengths then he will be very effective for us. Counter-attacking football and football where we use our midfielders for creativity rather than just as extra defenders will help.

While i wont be able to work out total expenditure for entire centuries :) i can tell you (well according to Transfermarkt) the following were our record signings at the close of the following decades..

70's- Wilf Rostron £225K from Sunderland
80's- Luther Blissett £650K from AC Milan
90's- Nordin Wooter £1.6M from Real Zaragoza
2000's- Nathan Ellington £4.39 from West Brom

All the top 25 record signings, bar Ellington, have been since we came back to the Premier League.

Quite right too - 'spunking' is a moronic word to be using on a sophisticated forum like ours.

    Welcome Andre.
His speed and sight of goal is just what the Silva style of counter attacking football is crying out for.
And he brings many options in an attacking lineup with/without Troy.

    Gray:
    Promotion (15/16) season for Burnley
Involved with a goal every 101mins

First season (16/17) in the Prem
Involved with a goal every 189mins

    Deeney:
First season (15/16) in the Prem
Involved with a goal every 156mins

Second season (16/17) in the Prem
    Involved with goal every 210mins

So what am I saying? I have no idea, I forgot where I was going with this.

They all seem to say they don't care about Gray, over and over and over. They've basically got the right hump.

It is very odd, looks like a spider has pottered across the page in a disorientated fashion. Much like the comments.
Essentially they are very undergruntled and are also 'debating' whether they receive 350k from this deal.
Some chap called Empty Vessell may or may not be leaving for Dungy-in-the Wold Second XI.

It's literally a page for all the backward, knuckle-dragging and window-licking neanderthals in that part of the world to conglomerate on. Why are you surprised that their forum is an accurate backdated representation of that set of fans?

Still brings me out in a cold sweat thinking of Ellington. Biggest waste of money ever by WFC. I remember the WBA fans telling us how bad he was but we still went ahead, including paying instalments off years later.

Knowing the pozzos this will be 200k up front and add ons only if he creates cold fusion, writes a 50m selling album or invents the new Facebook all under WFC ownership. Smart football men. Smart business men. Pozzos

The return of Springy's song?! Really good signing though. Hope Silva tries him and Troy in the same starting 11 rather than picking one or the other.

Although Gray is a solid forward, the speed at which this transfer happened suggests it was a bit of panick buy. Not totally convinced

I am happy enough with the transfer as we have been crying out for a fast forward to make runs in behind but I am not 100% convinced, Gray only scored 9 goal last season which is less than Deeney who is hardly prolific and he was dropped from many of their games towards the end of last season.

  25. UEA_Hornet

I think you need to readjust your expectations. A 9 goal striker in the Premier League for a club like us is basically like signing a 20 goal striker when we were in the Championship. We're not able to compete for a 20 goal striker at this level.

Quite. We ain't gonna be signing a Costa or a Lukaku any time soon

I understand what you are saying but he is hardly a prolific striker at this level like I have seen spouted about a bit recently. Many people on here have been giving Troy grief about not being an out an out goalscorer yet he managed to score more goals than Andre Gray last season.

His goals total isn't necessarily that great an indicator of his ability or how he will do for us. For what it's worth I actually think 9 from 20 something starts is fairly good. But what this doesn't take into account is who is he playing for, how are they playing and who are they playing against.

It's Burnley, playing fairly defensive football in the Premier League against the big 6 or mainly other defensive style sides.

Id say he did pretty well and will arguably be even more suited to Silva's style of play.

Has attributes we badly needed, still young enough to improve, English / HG.

    Very good signing.

He is very quick & he plays on the shoulder of the last defender. Exactly what we needed & we didn't have anyone else like that. Good signing.

truly believe he will score more with our attacking set up, the pinpoint through balls supplied by Cleverley, Pereyra's accurate crosses, the knock downs by Deeney and picking the ball out of Row Z from Armrabat

Do you think he could put in a good word for us with Heaton?

  34. Burnsy

I'm very happy with the signing. And I reckon he'll be very successful. But I hope he plays closer to the shoulder of the last man because if Burnley fans are to be believed he likes to play about 7 yards away from said shoulder...whilst stood offside.

Don't take any notice of them they have had their gruntles dissed.
