I believe Burnley's top goal scorer last season was Sam Vokes.

    Yes. Vokes scored 10.

I'm sure you can work it out from here.

Yeah I am very much hopeful that he will be able to score more in what should be a much more attacking team than Burnley and we have decent midfielders to play through balls and put him in. My point was that I still have doubts about him as his goal-scoring record is no better than what we already have and to be fair I cannot say I have seen too much of him.

As this transfer window has progressed, in typical Pozzo style, with Gino, Scott and Luke going about their business quietly and efficiently while many on here are screaming wtf is going on ffs, there has been one (and only one imho (it's acronym day in Ricky)) elephant in the room. And that has been our complete lack of pacy attacking options to give Marco the opportunity to play 'the Marco Silva way'. Then, in two days, this glaring problem is certainly addressed, if not necessarily solved. We'll have to see on the latter front.

We've got a potential Brazilian wunderkid (maybe courtesy of the Marco and Heurelho Portuguese/Brazilian connection) and another Brummy frontman with a reasonbable track record. I'd certainly hope that both our 'Brummy frontmen' would be on my side in a bit of a scrap on a Friday night. As in, they're certainly prepared to put a shift in.

Who knows whether these two will prove to be the real bizzo. But they're certainly the right two type of players to fill the void. With pace to burn. Others have made a big case for another CB/LB/GK. Fair enough. But imho those potential new recruits would not be exactly a luxury but rather 'topping up the level'. Not essential. And some of that business may yet happen over the next three weeks anyway.

Those of us who remember Scully doing his wizardry on the wing fully recognise the heady days in which our club now operates. And also recognise the pragmatic way in which our Italian owners operate. We ain't Barca or PSG. Neither are we profligate Muff with their dolls' house stadium who will fly too close to the sun sooner rather than later and burn up.

We play the Scousers in two days time. It would have been great if we'd got the whole new squad in place weeks ago. But we didn't. But we are 'good to go'.

Bring it on. Let's stuff 'em. Call to arms.

I started supporting Watford in 2004, when I was around 14. By then we were barely playing Luton.

Besides, they're so far below us now, they're pretty much irrelevant. I don't mean this in a disrespectful way, just pure honesty, just like the rest of the clubs in the FL mean nothing to us.

Games against Palace mean more to me than Luton ever has, or will.

Interesting as for me a game against Crystal Palace is just like any other game but I do get your point. Having lived in Luton though and been to a few derbies I can say they are the only team I class as our rivals and they absolutely despise us even more so now that we are doing well.

Who cares what they think? We haven't played them for eleven years.

Not many 'derbies' that have that sort of gap between games.

I don't know who cares. I was just saying that for me Luton are the only team that I consider to be rivals to us and they see us as their rivals despite the fact that we do not play them. I just cannot see how a game against Crystal Palace would mean more than one against Luton for any Watford fan given the history of the two clubs.

I'm not sure I'd even know that Luton had a football club, if it wasn't for this forum.

  13. Fair enough. But next time we play them, tell us how you feel about the scum again.

If you think Palace or Bournemouth represent rivalry you really haven't lived.

I knew the Luton were scum because my mother told me. And I trust her implicitly in such circumstances.

I respect your honesty and never really took your age or when you started following Watford into consideration.
I'm old school and in all honesty we only have one rivalry, it doesn't matter if we've not played them for years, they have and always will be the only team I loathe. I feel sorry for supporters who have never witnessed a derby. But I hope for your sake it happens sooner or rather than later.
To me Palace is just a pain in the a r 's e to get to and Bournemouth remind me of what Watford did in the 80'same, just not as well.
Hey but each to there own. As I said I respect your honesty, whether I agree with it is another matter.

Yep, and as much as it pains me to to say it, those ****s up the road still beat us on plenty of measures, major trophies won being one of them.

We've achieved precisely **** all so far in this period off dominance. It's far too soon to arrogantly turn our backs on history and dismiss our rivalry as an irrelevance.

Hating those mutants should be woven into the fabric of every single Watford fan, whatever the age. It is up to the older fans to educate the young during this special period where we never play them.

We desperately need to meet them in the cup. Then everything will become clear.

I have been to probably a dozen derbies with Luton. Experienced all the hatred, all the bile, all the rivalry.

I couldn't care less about them now, they are irrelevant.

Giving them any such of "rival" status now, gives them far more than they deserve.

I think Gino (and possibly Silva) would have had Gray on their radar for quite some time. However reports suggest they were quite surprised that Burnley were willing to do business especially with a direct rival. They were not going to break their wage structure for Gray so selling was their only option. A panic buy is possible on the last day of the window but surely not when we are going to break our transfer record. The speed of closing the deal I think is just as important as it hardly gives any time for our competitors to react. Getting Richarlison was described by Geraldi as like a 'spy story'.

History dictates its still possibly the second result I look for. Their non league play off failures and last season's play off capitulation to Blackpool with an injury time own goal were lovely moments.
As a club they are trapped in the 70s. ****** stadium and fan base dominated by a bunch of yobs from the pits of the social scale. The sight of their fans attacking 30-40 York fans after they'd been knocked out of the non league play offs at home sums the club up.

I've only been supporting Watford for 3 years and I do it from 8,700 km away. I've never been to a match. The football fans I'm surrounded by out here are irritating plastic big club supporters if they even watch the English game. Luton means little to me; the only reason I dislike them is because I know my fellow Hornets hate them and it is my duty as a supporter to follow suit. But in all honesty I get far more angry talking about Arsenal or Palace than Luton because why wouldn't I? I was what, 7 years old when we last played them? I've never even seen Luton play a football match, let alone against us. I almost feel sorry for them, floundering about in League Two with a sh*t team in a sh*t town and a sh*t ground.

Hating Loo Town is in my bones. I'm quite happy with that. Nothing else compares. That hatred doesn't extend to them as individual supporters though. Just to the collective pile of cr.p that they are.

Yep, it's just a part of what Watford is.

    Graham Taylor
    Elton John
    Family club
Hating those ****s up the road

Why would anyone want to remove a fundamental part of the clubs historical background?

I feel sorry for teams like palace who dont have an intense local rivalry. Of course I wish those awful ****s would go bankrupt and disappear off the face of the earth, but I'd still despise the memory of them.

I understand why those who've never seen a game (even on TV) won't fully care about L***n. Especially, if like me, you have never lived in Watford or surrounding areas. I knew they were our 'rivals / local derby / team we most want to beat etc' but never fully got the full feeling. All that changed when I went to see us play them in the league cup in 2002. I could feel the hostile atmosphere as soon as I walked into the town centre. What happened in the stadium by them was disgusting that night, and it wasn't even what I would call a minority. Horrible fan Base, felt that (and it is a strong word) hatred since that night. Was absolutely gutted we lost as well. Minus the violence would love to watch us play them again... Obviously with us winning!

DG3NlufW0AAhyKV.jpg Anyone who's had to travel to that god awful, wretched disgusting hole and suffer at the hands of their knuckle dragging fans will know what Luton means.

My last visit there was 1994 when we drew 1-1, Kevin Phillips scoring the equaliser. Been there numerous times but missed the glorious 4-0 massacre.

As the years have passed and the gulf has grown, I don't bother worrying about them anymore, I still laugh when they lose, however the jealousy is what drives their rivalry. If they play us, their fans think they have a point to prove by causing trouble.

The Times reports that Gray is getting £95k week and that Spurs players are mightily pissed off with their wages. Alli gets no more than £60k and Rose is complaining about his £65k.

But surely £95k can't be right

    Don't like Palace.
Palace do not have any London rivals, so they have to pick Brighton.
They would like us to be their rivals, so in our dislike of them, the best thing we can do is to not let them have their way, and to treat them like any other London club.
Whilst keeping L***n as our rivals, the best thing we can do to them is pretend that we no longer care, because we regard them as being insignificant.
Living in Leighton, I know a few of their fans and having a conversation with one of them, I mentioned that QPR was nearer to us than L***n.
I lied to him that we rarely sing anti L***N songs now, and that during a televised match that we where wining, we were singing "Are you watching QPR".
He was absolutely horrified, his face was a picture.

Come to a derby, if it ever happens again.
It'll come to you. It's primal. Like standing in line before a battle. It's adrenaline and instinct.
From the build up, the walk to the ground, seeing them, their contorted faces, an imitation of the human form. When your hear them growl, their gutteral, animalistic grunts that approximate to words in whatever foul tongue it is they use. The smell at the ground, a familiar place, home, invaded. Friendly sites and sounds turned sour and twisted by their presence. Not only our rivals but the very antithesis of us. We are a family club they live racism and hatred.
The thought then of beating them and how sweet it would feel will then come through. For those next 90 minutes little else will matter as you and all right thinking people around you wish and through force of will push us to win. And if we do, that smile you'll have, the joy in your heart, that will live with you

But I over intellectualise it. It isn't that. It isn't dislike and disdain for plastic fans of other teams

    And they stole Clive's scarf.
