Don't forget we've sold quite a few. Suarez, Berghuis, Agbo, Malle, Kums and a bus load on loan. It all adds up......plus that handy sum for Ighalo last season.

Sure......our commitment is around £50m, but that's including all add-ons and these deals are often spread over the term of the contract. This is one of the reasons Watford give their players 5 year deals.

One thing you don't need to worry about is the books. If Watford are spending £18m on a striker.....and will spend another £20-£30m on further signings, you can be very confident this is all within the club's budget.

    Andre is a scummer,
    He wears a scummer's hat.
But if he scores for us today
    Then I'll forgive him that.

    We hate Luton etc

You also have to bear in mind we had the ighalo money to burn too.

Ha, I know you love Gino, but I'm telling you the Watford FC article has been changed/updated. I saw it said 9m a few minutes after it was published on the site! Might have been some legal wrangling between the clubs as to how the deal should be financially communicated to the wider public?

    More likely just a typo.

You get the gray skies outta my way,
You make the sun shine brighter than Deeney.
Turn a mere spark into a flame,
Goals per minute will never be the same.

Exactly, hose him down with detergent upon arrival at the training ground like you see on American prison movies.

Probably also give him some useful experience for life once his playing career is over.

Very, very sure you've got this wrong. I read the article minutes after it was released, and it said 'club record fee'. There was no mention of £9m, or any figure for that matter.

May have done, it is exceptionally badly written.

Obviously I meant the George Michaels song 'Outside' where he dresses up as that nice policeman.

The pacey centre-forward arrived at Turf Moor in 2015 following a £9m move from Brentford, where he had scored 20 goals in 52 games. Sure you didn't misread it?

Can confirm that this is official now .

    Welcome to Watford Andre .

I'm led to believe that we are paying between 11.5-12.5 million upfront with 7 million in ads ons .

Add ons will be for goals scored , international appearances , World Cup wins and also unusually based upon the percentage of tweets that are inoffensive, so you can be rest assured that Gino has got us a good deal .

I know Gino and Scott are very happy with this deal although they said they were hoping for 10 mill with less add ons , but seemed pretty happy when I last spoke with them .

Am I mistaken or did Gray once score and make gestures towards the Rookery almost causing a mini riot?

I reckon on his first day at training Deeney will do that joke when you tell someone they've got something on the bottom of their shoe, and when he looks he'll go "ooooooh sailor"

It's mind boggling crazy money I'm struggling to comprehend. It's probably more than we've spent as a club in 19th and 20th centuries combined.

  20. We've spent £52.5m I think this window

    £18.5m Gray
    £13m Richard Alison
    £8m Chalobah
    £8m Cleverly
    £5m Hughes

If someone had said back in the spring of 2012 that in 5 years we'd be spunking £52.5m in a single transfer window they'd have been called a moron

As I said Gino the stealthy! Or slowly slowly catchey monkey. Nobody knows really what we paid for Andre Gray. Tales from the Vicarage volume 10 will have the full story.

Ever heard of the power of fake news! You are in the presence of transfer masters. So long as neither club loses face and the media are totally bamboozled equals shiny happy people.

I know that song I'm slightly ashamed to admit but taking Moog;s lead may I suggest:
    Andre,you were a disgrace
Andre, with that scar on your face
    Then you signed on
    Here at Vicarage Road
And all of our team are now saying
It's lots of fun to play with nice Andre Gray

It mentions the £9m fee that Burnley paid Brentford for him 2 years ago. That's the source of the confusion.

Christ.. Anyone taken a look on the Outlaws forum? I have no feelings towards Luton (the rivalry means nothing to me), but they really are going into meltdown over there.

Kind of sad in a way.

  31. Sorry, it's so hard to read that antiquated forum format I really can't be arsed.
Can you give a summary of the fun and games?

That 1999 dial up internet forum technically mirrors how astute they are as a club & the negotiation skills of their owners. They get 350K for an 18M trnasfer.

Am hopeful - but believe - that he will be a good signing. The team needed some pace, and now we have that in a couple of players.

Reading various articles re. this signing - both the tone of the majority of these articles plus the vast amount of comments attached to them all seem to think Burnley have played a blinder here. Of course we all favour our own team and are heavily biased towards them, but even apparent neutrals are being very smug about the fee and the "lack of ability" of Gray. Putting my bias aside - I still can't see how selling your 2nd top scorer* 3 days before the season starts, as well as losing your best defender is "genius transfer dealings"!!! What good's the money if you haven't replaced the holes in the team they've left??

(* although Vokes scored two goals more - 1 of those was in the cup against Bristol City [Gray was an unused substitute], and this was his second season in the premier league compared to Gray's first - during Vokes first season, he scored 1 goal).

The other classics I've been reading is the spammers piping up with "how good does the chicharito deal look now?" - conveniently ignoring the astronomical wages they paid to get him whilst also not acknowledging that the Gray transfer is only £18m if all add-ons are activated (which as previously mentioned on here, would make the player very much worth it).

Don't let the truth of the matter - insane fees at the top end of the market like Neymar/Pogba et al the reason why lesser players fees are now sky rocketing - get in the way of your ill-informed and decided-in-advance conclusion.

Nothing more amusing than a bit of fan delusion!
