    Absolutely spot on.

It isnt just a local rivalry like most derbys. A neutral usually cant separate 2 teams like newcastle and sunderland, southampton and portsmouth etc. The only difference is where they were born. The fans are all much of a muchness.

With us and those ****s though, it's quite literally good versus evil.

They may think, incorrectly, that it's the same but the other way around.

I don't think many think that they're the bad guys. They probably think they're a friendly family club like we do.

I think they do and are very proud to be seen as the bad guys. Have you been to a derby ? The ethos of the 2 clubs could not be further apart.

Must be a long rope from Watford to Switzerland that they're tugging on... where I assume Behrami is now to discuss a deal?

FWIW, Vokes' first season in the Premier League was affected by the fact that he was recovering from a cruciate operation and never started a game. Hence the lack of goals.

Gray wasn't going to stay beyond next summer, and didn't appear to have the same run-through-brick-walls-no-matter-what attitude that Sean Dyche likes. He wasn't even in the team for the last couple of months of the season. I've no doubt the club reckon (rightly or wrongly) that he can be replaced before the window closes.

Exactly, it would piss them off far more if they knew we thought of them as completely irrelevant and couldn't care less about them.
    Where's Luton anyway?

Too close to me for comfort.
Incidentally, they also hate the MK Donkeys, so I tell them that MK are my second team.

Ah the naivety of youth. You may understandably, at the moment, feel total indifference to L*t*n and that feeling may persist until the next time that we play them and you saunter along in your indifference to watch the game.

But rest assured that the liquorice-allsort clad hordes that surround you will not share your blythe indifference!

A half brick to the side of your head, torrents of sputum rolling down your face from them and, as you try to get up during a multiple kicking, may just make you reconsider your attitude towards them as rivals.

But then again, you may retain your deep dislike to those South London folks instead....

I hope you don't mean that when you say it. Milton Keynes are an awful, soulless Frankenclub who deserve relegation out of the Football League.

well it's been a week since I had beer and dreamt up the following genius song of redemption for Andre Gray, but I've added to it to take into account that major misdeed of playing for L*t*n.

(To the tune of gay disco favourite YMCA)

It's fun to say that we signed Andre Gray

The who is the scum question was inevitable as soon as we signed this bloke. If you've not been to a scum game or were too young to remember it then I sort of understand why you don't get a rivalry with a team from league 2. We have had a few other rivals accross the years, Brentford, Southend, Ipswich but none of them last. I really don't get the Bournemouth thing. The scum will always be luton.
You will just have to trust those that have experienced these games and will tell you, no other game comes even remotely close to this one, absolutely no where near it. Once you go to one of these games you will then understand.

Fair comment. All signings are a gamble to some extent, as there's so many variables that can affect the outcome. Looking forward to seeing him (hopefully) prove the doubters wrong.

Great post, brings back memories and feelings.

Was there for the absolute euphoria of the 4 - 0 win away but also the fear of getting back to the station.

Remember getting out of the ground and people spitting at us from buses. We got split into a column of Horns who were led/escorted by a few police through various back streets and industrial estates. It seemed perfect ambush territoriy and all around you could hear shouting, police dogs and fighting in nearby side roads. The thing that really freaked me out was that you could see the police leading us were really scared and they would stop us while they went ahead a few metres to check that there wasn't an ambush round the corner. Thankfully I got home unhurt but others weren't so lucky.

Luton are scum but a small weird part of me wants the scum to rise again just so the rivalry doesn't completely disappear in our new sanitised commercial premiership dream world.

I started going in the 90s so regular games until 98/99 though I have the horrid record of never seeing us beat "them". I know what it means though - step mum and her brother were chased with brick throwing "scum" in the 80s.

My dislike of them is now more of a joke which I mostly bring up whenever someone suggests I should buy there or when a housemate uses the airport and I say they need to be placed in quarantine before I speak to them.

Only lasted for about 3 years or so. I Think it started when their fans spat at Tony Coton. The following year loads of Watford were in their end and it kicked off outside and by the station. Pwoper nawty for a few years and then it disappeared again
