There is a West Ham connection too don't forget, and they are probably old mates.

    Gino tells Dowling
Dowling tells Gale as he knew him at West Ham
Gale knew Redknapp from West Ham
    Redknapp knows Howe
Howe hijacks the list FML :dismay:

Actually I was thinking of Duxbury and the one that has since left Nani (was that his name)?

My post was tongue in cheek, but like in my industry (gambling) where mostly everyone knows each other, the football industry behind the scenes there's bound to be the odd bit of info slipped by elsewhere but I suspect that it's mostly agents who do that.

As long as this list doesn't include any African internationals who we could lose for 6 weeks for the African nations cup.

Haven't gone through the thread but Demerai Grey from Brum would be a good signing for the future.

Imagine a front line of Berghuis, Oulare, Jakubiak and Grey for when we play the second leg in the European Cup semis after we've drubbed PSG 4-0 in the first leg?

If Holebas can play regularly like he did against Chelski, he should stay in Jan.

Looking forward to see who we get coming in next month. 2-3 quality signings like QSF wants to reinforce the team and I think we will finish in the top 10. We are a very attractive club for many players now. Knowing that the likely hood is that we will stay up and be in the Prem next season is a major pull. I see us going back for some that rejected us in the summer and being willing to sign on the dotted line.

Definitely need a winger with a lot pace, will just be interesting to see who it is.

Loic Remy ... under-used at Chelsea, experienced, strong and tenacious. A good replacement for when Igs is inevitably sold.

I'd like to see us bring in Henri Saivet from Bordeaux. He's been linked with a number of PL teams (Everton, Stoke, Southampton, Newcastle amongst them) and I reckon he'd fit in well in our team. He can play on either wing, or behind the striker. Probably no more than £10 mil.

I don't think so, either you changed teams, are having a senior moment or I'm very wrong!
I know you are very up on WFC of a certain age so I say this with much seasonal respect IRB!

El Shaarawy could be too far gone IMO

Reminds me of Balotelli, lots of hype, but what did he actually even achieve before his supposed 'slump'?

Fair point but he did play 17 times for Italy and over 100 games for AC Milan with 27 goals so must have had something about him.

At a cut price he might be worth a gamble. I'd imagine he would be less than the £14m Townsend is 'valued' at too.

The thing with El Shaarawy is that if we get him, he'll be played as a winger. I don't see him as the type of player to run back down the wing to help out the defence, which is exactly what QSF wants from his wide midfielders

That's true but I'd say the same about Townsend as well so maybe QSF is hoping to be able to change Townsend's style of play

I suspect the Pozzo's see the next few seasons as the pain before the gain in so far as transfers in are concerned. Using Townsend as an example, if we end up paying £14m it'll be mainly for his Premier league experience. But if in the same window we can also pick up a long term prospect for nothing money and shape that player into the next Townsend+, we'll start seeing the dividends further down the line.

So what if we get spanked by Levy ... if it serves its purpose in the short term let's not get too precious about it.

Just saw on Sky Slorts that Sam Byram's contract expires in the summer. Supposedly West Ham are trying to do a deal for him. I honestly think we should try and get him if he only has 6 months left on his current contract.

Where would he play for us? We have Nyom at right back, West Ham have Jenkinson who is presumably back to Arsenal at the end of the season.

I rate him highly, just don't see where he would fit in. If there were an equivalent to him at left back, however...

He's actually been played in both the RB and RM positions. Almost all of his goals and assists (bar one assist) last season came from him playing at RM, and all of his goals and assists this season have come from him playing at RM.

As a back up to Nyom but also someone to push Nyom. Nyom in my opinion is one of the best RB's in the league so I'm not expecting Byram's to replace him, but if Nyom gets suspended or injured, Bryam would be a great back up and for a cut price this transfer window, I think we would be silly not too.

I don't doubt that, but would Byram want to join us knowing he's unlikely to displace Nyom?

I've seen a fair amount of him at RB, but haven't seen enough of him at RM to be able to hold an opinion to be honest. We'll see!

I would think he would like to join a Premier League team in the top 10 who are only going to get better, so I would think he would like to join us. Maybe him seeing how QSF works and that he rewards those who train hard will give him the motivation to try and give QSF a good problem to have and Nyom a break when needed.

Loan deal with option to buy preferred for both

Not sure if anyone's asked this, but what's the likelihood that any player who joins in January will play more than a bit-part? Quique has previously stressed how important a full pre-season is, and those who joined later in the August window haven't had a whole lot of involvement.

Nonsensical as they've had a whole four months to catch up. Apart from that anyone who joins in Jan will have been playing for their previous club and probably will be picked to be able to slot straight in

Pozzo policy is to complete their main business early where possible, the later buys will mostly have been back up.

Just had some thoughts whilst sitting avoiding work most of the day so by no means scientific.
But QSF has placed himself in a very good position in the sense that players who weren't 'his' ibarbo, Guardioura and could include berghuis/oulare have barely featured whereas Jurado who has had the odd shakey game early on plays them all (I am firmly pro jurado especially after recent performances. With the suarez rumours it feels like he has shown he is a man very much involved in the recuitment where perhaps previous managers under the pozzos may not have been.

Could his selections have been a power move all a long? His way or the highway type thing?

As I say these were just musings of someone who is not fond of their job so need to fill the time. Obviously the prem is a very different landscape and when spending that sort of money would be daft not to have the managers approval especially one who has barely put a foot wrong.
