    This is all rather tedious.
Can we take him to a car boot sale?

After the Brighton game I'm hoping he stays even if it is to see out his contract and leave on a free. He is exactly the kind of player we are lacking.

Agreed. We definitely need more players who don’t want to play for Watford, playing for Watford.

Athletic reporting his move to Palace is close now for £6 million, potentially rising to £10 million with add ons. He is now set to discuss personal terms with them.

Those 'add-ons' could be anything, but it seems a decent enough deal for us given the circumstances. Derby must be sick, I bet they were banking on a healthy sell-on fee, yet when they could do with the money the most, they'll get a small amount at some unknown point in the future, at best

£6m is disappointing for a player of his ability, but taking the contract situation in to account I suppose it’s reasonable. I always expected it would be around £5m.

We paid £8m, he hasn’t really gone anywhere with his career, we’re getting £6m after four years of use and only one year on his contract. Sounds reasonable enough.

Didn't we get him on the cheap because they were struggling to pay us the money for Ikechi Anya?

He was also coming off injury. He was a bit of a risk at the time.

Shame really, thought he'd be here for years unless a genuine bigger club came along.

Doubt he'll do much at Palace, they have even less patience than we do. Plus it's a right dump.

Really liked him as a player but don't feel the same as I did about Vydra, Abdi and Forestieri leaving - which probably tells it's own story about his overall impact.

I liked Hughes, and I reckon he's made more of an impact at a higher level than all of those players, but I'd be hard pressed to think of really memorable moments of his time here. The others? How long have you got!

Meh, not to sound like a bitter ex but he wasn't that good.

Efficient yes but didn't get you out of your seat and hardly a rare irrepelacable skillset that he has.

Thanks to him for not downing tools, he was key to getting us back to the Prem but not too fussed. Sad for him that it's a sideways move to a team that could well finish below us this season because they look awful.

If he's doing this to us now, is it that much of a stretch to suggest he'd have done this in a flash if he weren't coming back from surgery? I tip my hat off to Sarr for slumming it out in the Championship without sulking, but would there have been much interest in a decent, but not outstanding midfielder coming off a serious injury?

If and buts were candy and nuts though ain't it really? Ultimately he didn't kick up a fuss, he stayed, he played well and was unquestionably key in getting us promoted which in turn was vital to us stabilising our future.

He scored that lovely volley against Fulham, mind the only reason I remember is that I said to the bloke next to me Hughes will score here before the corner was taken.

From a Hughes perspective, I just don't get it. Going to a club where he might not be first choice, worse facilities, ******** stadium, crap location south of the river. Nothing about this really makes sense to me.

Ok, contract may have some reassurances without a relegation clause, but the way it looks is Palace are going to struggle this season. Vieira will not be the manager for the entire season. Palace are just as hire and fire as Watford.

Yes, Watford might go down and Palace stay up, but it could easily be the other way around. This is just all very odd.

However, from a Watford POV, we're going to make a profit on trading in this window. By my rough calculations, if he goes for £10m, then we would have made a £4m profit, excluding whatever the Pozzo's want to send us for Success.

He is good and it is a bargain for Palace... But I think we've brought in some good players for even better bargains.

Use the money to finance a couple of loan-to-buys and we've given ourselves a chance.

I'm sure he will be thinking better prospects of staying in the prem (about 8 years in a row now?), no relegation clause in the most important contract of his career, maybe higher pay, maybe burnt bridges at WFC ?

I don’t care how you want to spin this.

We’ve just sold our best midfielder to a relation rival.

    FTFY.
For what it’s worth I liked Hughes and would never have contemplated selling him had I been in charge and we’d just got promoted. But in fairness to Pozbury we’ve made some very interesting midfield signings to replace him before he’s even gone. Tufan, Kucka, Etebo are all potentially an improvement. Time will tell.
